Wrath of the Lich King Classic Arrives September 26

Rediscover the joys of exploration and relive the dangers of Northrend when World of Warcraft®: Wrath of the Lich King Classic™ goes live beginning September 26 at 3pm PDT globally.

The Lich King, Arthas Menethil, sits in the ominous Icecrown Citadel scheming to claim the world as his own—a plan that threatens all life on Azeroth. Heroes of the Alliance and Horde must stand against the malevolent being who dares to declare himself the one true king of Azeroth...and seeks to scour all life from the world.

Wrath of the Lich King Classic™ will thrill both veterans and newcomers with a host of improved features and content to explore:

  • The Grim Frozen North – Heroes will begin their journey in one of two zones in Northrend—Borean Tundra or Howling Fjord—and adventure through some of the most epic vistas and beloved storylines in all of Warcraft before breaching the seat of the Lich King’s power in Icecrown.
  • The Rise of Death Knights – Available to both factions and starting at level 55, Death Knights—World of Warcraft’s first hero class—harness the powers of darkness to help combat the evil that threatens Azeroth. While Death Knights are limited to one per server and require a level 55 character on that server to create, in Wrath Classic, we will be bypassing that requirement for a player’s first Death Knight.
  • New Profession—Inscription – This new profession allows players to scribe mystical glyphs that modify the properties of spells and abilities (cooldowns, damage, etc.), and craft powerful trinkets and off-hand items.
  • Achievements Unlocked – Achievements are coming to WoW Classic, giving players new rewards for their exploits and accomplishments.
  • Dungeons & Raids – Relive seminal 5-player dungeons like Azjol-Nerub and the Culling of Stratholme, and lay siege to Naxxramas as a 25- or 10-player raid—an update of its original iteration as a 40-player raid in pre-expansion World of Warcraft.
  • Included With Existing World of Warcraft Subscriptions – As with previous WoW Classic releases, anyone who subscribes to World of Warcraft can also play Wrath of the Lich King Classic at no additional cost.

Joyous Journeys 50% Experience Buff Ahead in Burning Crusade Classic

The road ahead is icy and fraught with danger. To help you prepare for your adventures in Wrath of the Lich King Classic, players in Burning Crusade Classic will get an experience buff* called “Joyous Journeys,” which will increase experience gains by 50%! It’s a great time to finish leveling a character, create a new one, or invite friends to join you in your adventures.

Players can also visit any innkeeper in a capital city to turn the experience buff off or on. The journey won’t last forever and will end with the launch of Wrath of the Lich King Classic.

We’re excited to be able to bring this classic adventure to you, so don’t forget to sign up for the beta. For the latest information and updates, keep checking WorldofWarcraft.com, and follow us on Twitter and Facebook.

We look forward to seeing you in Northrend!

*Experience buff not available in modern World of Warcraft®.

I was looking forward to playing wotlk again , easily my favourite expansion to date, but the changes they have made means I won't be playing it at all, its their choice to ruin the classic version but I'm not touching it now.

Just so we're clear, we're talking about the Icecrown Citadel raid patch and it being in for "half of the expansion's life" is because of the usual year-long drought between expansions, right?

Just saw there is an option at innkeepers to remove the Joyous Journeys buff ;D Why would someone opt to remove a 50% exp increase buff?

"I want the classic experience!" kekw

What do subs have to do with anything? You are being EXTREMELY disingenuous and you know it.

now who is reaching? all serous raid guilds farmed RS for months, it had plenty of insane loot/BiS pieces. Anyone running ICC was running RS as well, maybe your super super casual team didnt, but MOST did. shitty is just your opinion. dont play it off like fact, it kept subs growing leading into the highest peak players ever obtained entering cata. guess it wasnt that shitty.

I LOVE how you accuse others of presenting things as fact, then pretend to have knowledge on what kept people playing late into the expansion, claiming it was purely because of EASILY the most forgettable, single boss filler raids wow has ever seen. If you want to set the standard that only FACTS can be presented, please adhere to that standard yourself and stop making idiotic claims like RS not only kept people playing (lol) but also caused an INCREASE in subs.

I was in one of those serious guilds and on a large server there were about 7 if us that farmed LK H 25. Ruby Sanctum was a ghost town and it definetly had nothing to do with keeping subs. LFD was the reason that subs didn't drop during that whole year. Claiming Ruby Sanctum was anything but a waste of time is laughable.

The only somehow affecting change is the removal of LFG, isnt it?
I don´t think that makes much of a deal. Removes a lot of toxicity tbh. But also, they are clearly going to add it later on when they find it fitting (in a catch up patch to get more subs).

But tbh.... with LFG you´d get a dungeon in 20 minutes as a DPS? without it I always made groups in about the same time... difference here is mainly being lazy about it or not.

ruby sanctum was ran by tens of thousands weekly. hardly a ghost town. your server was not very large or good if it had only 7 guilds farming H ICC 25 on RS release. below average at best. but that is not the point, what matters is, RS was ran more than any current raid tier of the last 3 expansions. it contained BiS loot and was farmed from its release until cata by most raid teams. RS raid content 100% helped to maintain subs. your denial doesnt change that. it was content, containing VERY desirable loot, it kept people coming back.

Thats not the only changes, there is a fair few more but most important is the lfg, the changes to wintergrasp and the changes to being able to help friends level up fast in dungeons, all shit changes that I don't like. Hope that helps.

Well at least they are not advertising that WotLK comes with a Dance Studio this time around.

I'm guessing they removed LFG because that is what killed all community in WOW.

LFG will be released later on with some catch up patch. It´s a smart business move

But yes, it is a bringer of toxicity, sadly.
