Cross-Realm Dungeon Feature Coming Soon

Today, we wanted to give you a heads up about a new feature currently in development that will allow players to invite Real ID friends of the same faction to a party regardless of the realm they play on, and then queue up for a 5-player regular or Heroic dungeon.

As this is a fairly complex service to develop, we don’t have a release date to share quite yet. It’s important to note that as with some of the other convenience- and connectivity-oriented features we offer, certain elements of the cross-realm Real ID party system will be premium-based, though only the player sending the invitations will need to have access to the premium service. We'll have more details to share with you as development progresses -- in the meantime, you may begin to see elements of the feature appear on the World of Warcraft PTR.

This game is already wildly overpriced as it is (new players getting up to Cata have to spend over $100 just to hit level 85.) Not to mention you have to pay $14.99 a month on top of that.

Up until now, I didn't care about Blizzard selling vanity mounts/pets and charging for things like the Arena Tournament or Mobile Auction House, because none of those features really impacted the average players experience. Now they want to charge you for a feature that really should have been included with the LFG tool in the first place?

What's next, they are going to charge you $4.99 a month to have access to "Premium Mailing" allowing cross realm BOAs? If they are going to nickel and dime for a complete game, it should be $0 up front to install.

These storage tabs were an optional feature added on Guild Wars's 5th anniversary, long after they stopped producing new expansions because they are focusing completely on Guild Wars 2. The game has long passed its originally expected lifetime and they are still adding in free content with the full knowledge that it won't get them any more profit.

And let's not forget all the things you get for free in Guild Wars that you pay for in WoW such as server transfers; in GW you can move at any time instantly to any other server for free, even if that server is in an other region.

Prices in GW store exorbitant? I beg to differ, 5 Character Recustomization tickets = 8.99 EUR in Guild Wars, 1 Character Recustomization = 15 EUR.

Sorry, dude, but your zealotry's blinding you. I'm not bashing on Guild Wars (hell, I love GW; still play it, in fact), but to say that it is superior to WoW in every conceivable way is folly. There are certain things that Anet did better (I absolutely <3 being able to observe GvG matches, and the worldwide districts, for instance), and there are things that Blizzard did better (e.g., the "joy of movement," as Eric Flannum put it, and the persistent world).

Anyway, I'm not about to get into a pissing match with you (I'm looking over your other responses in this thread as I type this... ¬_¬), but my point was simply to be fair with the argument. Yes, GW and GW2 do not and will not require a subscription, but they still have a cash shop, and, when taken at face value, the prices of some things in it can seem quite exorbitant.

One game is not inherently better than the other (however, I will argue that NCSoft is less greedy than Activision, and thus better, lol)... they just... are. WoW, as a game, is pretty damn good (as a service, though, I don't agree so much any more); GW is also great; and I'm eagerly anticipating both GW2 and SWTOR.

It has got absolutely nothing to do with how the feature will affect me. It is the principle of the issue. I do not want to give money to a company that charges me a monthly sub and then adds premium services as if it is a F2P game.

So...Blizz is forcing people to pay more money just to group up with friends for 5 man dungeons? Jesus...I could maybe see it being justifiable if it was grouping in general, but no way in hell should it cost money to cross-realm just for a 30 minute heroic.

Guild Wars is getting updated more often than WoW despite the whole focus being on Guild Wars 2.
16 of those 23 updates are nothing but balance updates.

We get those all the time...

There are people saying they "spend tons of money" on World of Warcraft already. What?
How is World of Warcraft tons of money? It's $14.99 a month at worst. That's less than the cost of going to see a movie at a theater when you count a small popcorn and drink. Less than the cost of eating out one time. The value is fricking insane as it is for the amount of hours of entertainment you get out of that single $14.99 per month. I am not surprised they are offering a premium service for features that aren't inside the general scope of the game. It's not like they are selling "Premium Raid Content." That would be insane, but they would never do that.
I'm not sure what game you're playing, but I've spent over $1400 on this game, not including "premium services" such as the 4 server transfers and 1 faction change I've had over the years.

I didn't say Guild Wars was better in every conceivable way, or ArenaNet wouldn't be justified in creating Guild Wars 2, would they?

the point is that a feature like this should not cost more, in a p2p game

isnt wow server based instead of p2p?

oh i get it, you mean pay to play 8>

well to add something to the matter... once upon a day when some of yo guys have grown up and start to work yourself, youll realize that you probably dont want to work for free, thus you wont give your products away for free.

also i guess if wow had an premium-function from the start, nobody wouldve been bothered by this... aaaand theres a few mmos/online games out there who are in fact selling premium accounts too.

so a reason why this feature came in so late, might be a financial issue wich they are trying to resolve by making the feaure paying based..
oh and another thing, they didnt say the whole crossserver-thingy would be premium, so under some circumstances youll still be able to arrange cross-server dungeons with your friends 4 free. problably if one of your friends actually got premium or something else maybe 8>

Pay-to-play i.e. subscription-fee-based. Peer-to-peer is another matter that most of the people in this thread likely don't even know of.

Beside that, it's a bit unfair to compare any MMO to another that's had 10 years of history and background before it was even created. WoW's history started in 94 with Warcraft: Orcs and Humans. Guild Wars history and background started with it's conception and it still sold a combined 7 million copies. Is it as big as WoW? Obviously not. Is it a success in it's own standards? Yes, and you'd be an idiot and fool to think otherwise.

    I never said it wasn't a success.

My whole point across the posts about sales numbers is that the up-can-comers and underdogs HAVE to do more for less to try and catch up.

Why doesn't WoW go B2P to match GW2? Because they don't have to.

Why don't they give free server transfers? Because they don't have to.

They don't have to promise the world to get you to switch. They'll give you what they think is fair for your $14.99. And you'll either keep paying or not.

It's a business. They apply 'The Formula' as expounded on from Fight Club. They already know that what it will cost them in canceled subs will be less than what they make in additional revenue. They get most of these wagers correct. That's why GW2 has to try and win subs w/ free monthly play and free server xfers.

yep, the fact is, we already pay a monthly fee to keep the updates coming, so asking extra money for updates we already payed for is just greedy.
