Character Level Boost to 90 priced at $60
The US servers went back online after the maintenance and for a few minutes people could access the interface to upgrade their character. Unless announced otherwise by Blizzard, upgrading your character to level 90 will cost you $60 on live servers.

Thanks to Zheo for the screenshot!

First you complain it'll kill the game, and now you complain it's too expensive. Hypocrisy runs strong with the community.
So very much this it beggars belief about some people it really does..

-boost a char to 90 for free
-pay a sum of money to transfer that lvl 90 to your main account
Now do the maths how much money will it cost u?

I swear people on mmochampion are getting dumber and dumber each day.
Speaking of stupid, you clearly don't realize how that "amazingly clever process" of yours costs more than $60. Why don't you take your own advice and do the math yourself, and actually think before opening that hole in your head that you use to vomit your perceived superiority next time.

You call it "greed", that it's priced that much? Oh wow, you must be right. Smartest poster on MMOC. I'm going to bookmark your post history just to see the future posts you come up with. Perfect!
Whatever blows your skirt up, buddy. I'm sorry you have such a big problem with people voicing opinions that don't mirror your own though. You must lead a very lonely life..

60 dollar? lol, well I wont come back then. This was the only reason I would come back to wow after some years but no ty Id actually buy a totally new game for that money instead WOW. I thought the other shit they had for 25 dollar was expensive.
They will earn soooo much money from all wow addicts. Most of the ppl playing will throw 60 dollars for that.

I don't understand the rant about it. it's optional!

It's not overpriced if people buy it at that prices regardless of cost for blizz. That's supply and demand 101!

Personally il buy 1-2 just to experience the horde side of questing and a diferent class. For my other toon i would prefer to experience the leveling.

Oh, you want to do it now. Well then, yeah, go for it. Unlike 95% of the kids here, I have no issue with the price, thought you did... oops

Ah, the lonely life excuse? That's mature. You are really, really intelligent. Also, you said you'd spend up to $200 on this, right? Meaning you have how many 90's exactly? Check your post history. Doesn't make sense.

Also, you really need to learn how to write. You're trying to make your opinion come out as fact. Reread your previous post, and tell me I'm wrong. Please? You're writing that Blizzard is greedy. You're not writing that you think that they are greedy. Big, big difference. Small minds can't comprehend that, though.

I appreciate that you replied to me, by the way. The lesser minds usually don't.

Also, if you think I'm so lonely I have no issue removing that assumption, if that means you'll be able to come forward as an more intelligent individual than what you appear as now. Please?

So, you'd rather buy a new game, correct? Such as, perhaps, the expansion? Where, you know, you get a free 90 boost included? "lol", indeed. Nice expression that, "lol".. You being poor, thinking $25 is expensive doesn't mean that it's expensive. Pretty cheap compared to other hobbies.

(There's also still the option of RAFing yourself, but I think you'd still end up around $100 (game versions plus transfer). You could get more than one character going that route, but I think RAF also maxs out at level 85.)
RaF, at a minimum, costs the Battlechest, Mists expansion and transfer fee, which is currently $65. I haven't done it in a long while, so I don't know if the person being recruited has to pay for at least one month minimum of time, and if so, the total is $80. There is zero reason to not simply purchase the boost to level 90 once it drops because it's currently the most economical thing to do for a single class for one person. However, RaF nets you a benefit of a 90 and then free levels to another class of your choice, so it can save you $40, but that's only if you're doing it for more than one class, which I would hope someone is.

The short and sweet of it is that buying 90s is currently the most economical decision on a Time v Money comparison when you look at all the other options. I also find the instant boost more palatable than the idea of XP potions which are a standard in Free-to-Play/Freemium games that prey on players by making the grinding super arduous.

Blizzard is just dipping a toe into the water but once down that road it is hard to see how they won't find more ways to make $$ for what essentially costs them nothing to do.
Of course it's hard to see if you don't think about things with a bit of foresight, apply some critical thought or leave on the hat of doom. It makes no sense for Blizzard to simply add in things that are time-sinks to the store because that messes with raw character power indirectly and ruins economies. It only works for stuff like mounts and pets because those are niche items, not items you need to play the game even at a terrible level.

I really don't understand why people think Blizzard is just a building facade run by bean counters on the inside. They have people that do this exact kind of projecting and forecasting and utilize empirical data to make decisions; they don't just simply throw paper into the air with writing on it and use whatever one hits the table first. Have they had questionable decisions/policies before? Sure, no company is bulletproof. That being said, they have a near stellar track record and haven't explicitly changed in-house management at the top very much, so it makes little sense to believe the game is going to radically change into freemium garbage.

Plus, the entire game would need to be redesigned around it to work, and considering how many horrible MMOs have done the exact opposite and folded and how much actual work that would be for Blizzard, that's a really cost ineffective decision.

When a business model becomes more about a cash grab than delivering quality goods that benefit the consumer it usually ends badly. I still have the nasty feeling this is precisely the path blizzard are following, truly I hope I'm wrong though.

Before price announcement: "Paying for level 90 is Pay to Win."
After: "$60 is such a ripoff. Why are they so greedy?"

They put price for 9 year of labor, skip it for funny low price

    Whining about 60 dollars.
Well, EU will probably have to pay 60 euro (82~ dollars) because they are totally even exchange, right?

Can't say I'm liking this at all. Optional or not, leveling will feel like a waste of time because I can just bring up my damn VISA and save myself weeks of casual leveling.
Sure, leveling is fun quite a lot of the time, but far from always.

gg Blizzard... pricing themselves out of profit, lol. The greed is strong in this one...
Same here actually. There are characters that I love but I just don't want to level them again to play with friends on another server was hoping this was a way around that but I'm too cheap haha.

Disgusting for a pay to play MMO, what bullshit this whole in-game store. Or any store for that matter. Might as well go F2P and be done with it.

I love this option and price. I'll prob buy a few of them. My only worry is that there is about to be 20 warlocks in my raid

I don't think I'll ever buy it personally (I felt this way even before the price was announced), but $60 seems pretty fair for an instant 90.
It's a huge time-saver, which is a big deal for people with busy schedules and some disposable income to toss around.

I want to say it includes WoD + all expacs = 90 boost, which would make sense. Good thing I have a 90 of every class

P2W business models are so offensive to me. "Here's a game! Oh wait, we included something in the game that feels like a chore? Give us money and you can skip it!" No thanks. If you can't be bothered to make your gaming experience fun, why should I be paying for it in the first place? Offering a "service" that catches people both coming and going is disingenuous.

Blizz is saying that the leveling experience isn't worth improving, but IS worth charging for. Which is bull. If they had spent time in Cataclysm making the leveling experience as fun and engaging as they did making it new, then this wouldn't be an issue, but they failed at that, and now they're insisting that in order to get to content they actually care about developing properly, you have to either grind your way through crappy, unbalanced, boring, Cataclysm Era doldrums or else pay double (or triple, or quadruple...) for the game.

It's amazing reading all the negativity. If you don't like this, then put your money where your mouths are and quit. Fairly certain the vast majority of complainers here will not. There's a word for that.

Pathetic. You people at Activision / Blizz are complete sellouts
