It isn't. The achievement requires to collect 20 and lists 25 as possible choices.
You can easily get the achievement without the Guardian Cub.

That said, the AH price is going to explode.

Are you that surprised though? WoD being pre-orderable super early and costing an extra $10 for less content.

And of course everyone is going to buy one thinking the prices will go up, but they only will for a little bit til people remember no one wants the ugly shit.

No, they'd probably just remove that requirement.

I haven't bought one pet or mount from the store yet. Won't change.

How dare a company want or need money to continue to keep a service up for millions. You sir, are an idiot.

Wah wah wah, all one sees every day here.

Less content? In what way? Afaik it'll have everything an expansion usually does, + the Garrisons. No new races or class ain't exactly a must for an expansion, especially seeing as we've gotten 3 new races with the last 2 expansions.

No one wants the "ugly shit" eh? How about you stop confusing your opinion with general fact? Not that prices will go up that much since people who wanted it probably got it already, but yeaaah...tons of people want it. One of my fav pets tbf part of my first 25 pet team. ^^

I've bought them all, will continue to do so + the TCG items.

Yeah...because the sub-fees don't more than compensate for the costs of service + company payroll.

Yeah, because pissy random people should get to dictate a company just because they don't like the thought of profit.

This could end up becoming a very valuable item if it stays retired. Remember the Haunted Memento? It'll be a lot like that.

Again, it isn't a requirement for the achievement. You can easily get it without the cub, just like you always could.

The only reason can see for removing it is that it allows people to indirectly buy gold with real money

Then they'd have to remove all TCG pets, though. Some of them are way more lucrative to sell when it comes to the $<->Gold ratio.

Picked up a couple of these on my realm for under 2k gold, thanks mobile AH

Frozenbeef has seen through the fog, and found the answer. Now ask yourself, why was it that I couldn't see that?

If that was the reason I'm sure they could just stop it from being sellable in-game...

So, drum up fake demand by removing the ability of purchase? God Blizzard's money grabbing is getting very transparent.

No, then people who bought it to sell it would be mad.

It's the opposite, they're getting rid of the only thing on the store you can sell in game for gold.

Wouldn't be that hard I believe to keep the already in-game pets sellable and prevent the ones from the store bought after a certain deadline from being tradeable.

But it seems to be working as a boost to sales, already seeing people advertising it in trade as a "Soon to be unobtainable!" pet.
