MMO-Champion FAQ

Here you can find answers to questions about how the board works. Use the links or search box below to find your way around.

Advertising on MMO-Champion

Advertisements for non-beneficial and/or non-related websites, businesses and/or organisations are not allowed on MMO-Champion.

If you wish to advertise the website of yourself or someone else that has a relevant theme (for example, World of Warcraft in the WoW sections), we would appreciate it if you ask permission first.

Send a private message to any of our moderators or website admins before making a thread. Also, we do not allow more than one thread per advertisement. We reserve the right to refuse advertisements for any reason whatsoever.

Circumventing a ban or suspension

Although secondary accounts are not allowed regardless of reasons, additional accounts used for circumventing the infraction system or evading a ban can result in an increased ban duration on your main account. Additionally, you are not allowed to have other accounts post on your behalf while banned.

Subjects/content not allowed on MMO-Champion

The following topics are not to be discussed on MMO-Champion on penalty of ban.

  • Gold-selling/Account selling or trading websites
  • Buying or selling of items in-game or in real life
  • Keyloggers, hoaxes/phishing websites
  • Activities considered illegal by Blizzard Entertainment (botting, hacking, cheating, exploiting,...)
  • Religious opinions/debates
  • Hateful language about race, religion, country (Example: US vs. EU threads), political beliefs, etc.
  • Race or Ethnicity that is not fantasy in nature
  • Gender identity
  • Nudity/Sexually explicit content
  • Content that is considered illegal by law
  • Referral links for contests, promotions, or anything else
  • Medical advice
  • Graphic violence or gore

General posting guidelines

  • Do not use the mentions feature to harass other users or the moderators. There is a report post option if a post needs moderator attention.
  • Do not create duplicate threads in the same or multiple sections to attract more attention.
  • Do not bump threads
  • Use the search function before creating a new thread
  • Choose a suitable and clear subject line for your thread, no one-word subjects
  • Limit the usage of CAPS (capital letters), color, and special fonts
  • Do not use ASCII code symbols or Unicode symbols
  • Contribute in a constructive way
  • Do not quote entire posts, only quote parts you wish to elaborate on. The quote button is not a reply button.
  • Do not create pointless threads such as "Which class/race/gender/faction/server should I roll?"
  • Not everything belongs under "General Discussion", try to find the best suited section for your thread.
  • Only post in English. As English is not everyone's native language, we ask you to not correct other people's posts unless you are asked to. Do not quote dictionary entries for the sake of arguing. Don't be the grammar police.
  • Intentional poor writing, spelling or 1337sp33k will only get your post/topic deleted.
  • Format your post (aka no "Wall of text"); paragraphs make reading a big post a lot easier.
  • Use thumbnails when posting images, especially if your image is very large. See below:
    .
  • If posting many images, please use links rather than embedding to keep threads more mobile friendly.
  • Don't post "Blizzard" scam emails. 99% of them are scams, we know this already. If you have an honest question, see the official WoW forums.

Bans & Infractions - What the hell are they?

We have a troll. His name is Jim. Hi Jim!
We also have two moderators, Todd and Janet. Don't ask where I get these names from.

Jim has a large avatar. Todd sees this and fills in the "Signature & Avatar Violation" infraction form. He fills in a little message to the user ("It's 90 MB big!") and submits it.

Jim's Infraction Record
Name Points Expiration Moderator
Signature & Avatar Violation 4 30 days Todd
Total 4

A week later, Jim decides to go on a flaming trip. He makes a topic somewhere causing a EU vs US flamefest and throws out several nasty insults across the thread. Janet sees this and fills in an infraction for "Major Flaming".

Jim's Infraction Record

Name Points Expiration Moderator
Signature & Avatar Violation 4 23 days Todd
Major Flaming 15 180 days Janet
Total 19

Jim has just triggered the 15 point ban, and is now banned for 3 days.

A few months later, Jim can't control his temper and starts insulting some poor guy through PMs. Todd gets the report and decided to infract on "Flaming".

Jim's Infraction Record
Name Points Expiration Moderator
Signature & Avatar Violation 4 Expired Todd
Major Flaming 15 10 days Janet
Flaming 5 90 days Todd
Total 24

Jim has just triggered the 20 point ban and has now been banned for 1 week.

Jim learns from his mistakes, and becomes a nice member of the community. He's seeing a few doctors about his anger problems and has studied the rules thoroughly. However, almost 3 months (80 days) after his last infraction he decides he can't resist posting a meme response to a thread. Janet won't let this stand!

Jim's Infraction Record
Name Points Expiration Moderator
Signature & Avatar Violation 4 Expired Todd
Major Flaming 15 Expired Janet
Flaming 5 10 days Todd
Minor Spam 5 90 days Janet
Total 10

Jim is under the minimum ban threshold (15 points), so he's safe this time.

Upset at his new infraction, Jim decides to vent by trolling the mage class forum. For his efforts he receives a new 5-point Trolling infraction.

Jim's Infraction Record
Name Points Expiration Moderator
Signature & Avatar Violation 4 Expired Todd
Major Flaming 15 Expired Janet
Flaming 5 9 days Todd
Minor Spam 5 89 days Janet
Trolling 5 90 days Todd
Total 15

Jim has just triggered the 15-point ban and is now banned for 3 days.

Most bans are temporary and expire after a length of time based on the amount of active infraction points. However, permanent bans are sometimes issued. These can be triggered automatically by accumulating a large number of infraction points in a short period of time, but they can also be given manually after admin/global review, such as when an account hits the lifetime threshold of infractions, if the user is found to still be exhibiting poor posting habits.

Discussing moderator based actions

Actions taken against a member of the community are not to be discussed in public on the forums. Opinions about specific moderators or moderator actions (locking, deleting threads, etc) are also not to be discussed in posts or threads.

If you have questions, remarks, suggestions or complaints about moderating in general or specific moderators, please contact our website admin through a private message.

Bans can now be appealed. More information on how to do that is provided in the private message you'll receive when banned.

Naming & Shaming

We don't want to see one sided accusations or any other form of naming and shaming. Armory links to characters that are not your own will be deleted, as will character names and servers.

Signature, Avatar, and Title Guidelines

  • Maximum amount of images, quotes and text in your signature: As much as you can fit within the other rules.
  • Maximum signature width: 500px total. If you have a 250px image and a 300px image side by side, that would be violating this rule.
  • Maximum signature height: 100px total. If you have a 75px image and a 50px image one below the other, that would be violating this rule.
  • Maximum signature filesize: 50kB total. If you have multiple images then the filesize is added between them. Smilies also count.
  • Maximum avatar filesize: 20kB.
Restricted file types in signature/avatar: None. You can have it animated if you must, but be sure that it meets the other rules (More importantly filesize).

Avatars and signatures are subject to the same rules as posts and threads. They should not shock, offend or in any other way break our rules. Sexually-suggestive images are not allowed for use in either, even when hand-drawn or selectively cropped/covered. All normal site rules still apply to custom titles. Additionally, no misleading titles are allowed (moderator/admin, banned, infracted, etc).

Additionally, the following avatars and signatures are prohibited: Scrapbot's avatar, the "Banned" avatar, clickfarm links (like 'hatch a dragon', 'click to give me internets'), "Infracted" signature, and any monetized links (like adf.ly) or SEO. A single text link to a personal blog or website is acceptable under most circumstances; however, advertisement banners are not allowed. If you're not sure if something is allowed, please send a PM to any moderator or admin.

Spamming and Trolling

Neither spamming or trolling is acceptable on the forums. This includes, but is not limited to, the following examples:

  • Excessively communicating the same phrase, similar phrases, or pure gibberish
  • Creating threads for the sole purpose of causing unrest on the forums
  • Causing disturbances in forum threads, such as picking fights, making off topic posts that ruin the thread, insulting other posters
  • Making non-constructive posts
  • Abusing the Reported Post feature by sending false alarms or nonsensical messages
  • Numbering a thread, IBTL, TLDR, or any other fad statements
  • Thread-necro: Reviving an old thread for no reason other than bumping it to the first page
  • Posting meme or troll images, text, or videos; "cool story bro", "u mad", "10/10", captioned images, etc...
  • Posts calling someone a troll or announcing they have been placed on ignore.
  • Replying to a thread simply to call the author an evade or alt, regardless of whether it is true (if you feel it is, please use the report button).

Search FAQ

Select this option if you would like your search to look in the text of FAQ items as well as their titles.

Select an option here to specify how you would like your search query to be treated. 'Any words' will return the most numerous but possibly least relevant results, while 'Complete phrase' will return only results that contain exactly what you are searching for.
