Too many gold-digging whores these days.
If they were living together for more than a year in Canada, which it sounds like they were, they are considered common-law married and she will get half of these winnings in a divorce anyways. If anything this guy is being the slime ball and trying to sneak out in a dirty play.

I beg to differ, you just have to marry a girl who makes more than you. Then you end up as the benefit.

If you're not planning for the scenario to win the lotto then why are you playing in the first place...All around sad that you see this shit far to often with people getting a break only to wish they hadn't won afterwards...

What if the wife earns more money? What if she's more attractive?

I do love the new-wave men's rights movement, it's adorable.

The moment, a single other win was shared, or they did indeed take turns to pay for it, the man's story goes out of the window. And even on his own accounts, he really is, at best an asshole.

    Shocking incident here.

Really demonstrates the important of marriage and avoid these long term "relationships" Now what does she have to show for it all?
This case could be tied up in the court system for a long time.

Also shows how greedy some people are and the lengths they will go.
This has nothing to really do with marriage. We get it, you are on a crusade... but look behind, nobody else is following you.

Because OP made the thread about it. As they always try and present some article to argue some other unrelated issue.
And that behaviour is left unchecked in these forums.
People are responding to OP, not to the presented story. You are pretending that they are responding to the story, and choosing to ignore that the culprit of this stupidity is OP.

No clue on Ontario/Canadian law, but cases like this have happened in the US and occasionally they were ordered to split the winnings.

    http://www.nbcchicago.com/news/natio...373872171.html

In this case a couple verbally agreed (or so the guy claims) in 1991 they would split any future lottery winnings and the woman won in 2007, she immediately broke up with the guy and evicted him from her house. He sued and his case was originally thrown out, but then the Florida Supreme Court overruled the lower court and reinstated his case. Eventually the woman was ordered to pay him $291,000 of her $1,000,000 winnings and she filed for bankruptcy.
As stated before common-law marriage in Canada is after 12 months of shared accommodations. So it is quite possible they have this already.

Most women won't marry someone who they have beat in income, they tend to date up, not down.

Also good luck getting alimony as a man. Of all alimony payers 80% + are men.

I don't think its a common law marriage but she would still be entitled to the winnings if they were splitting them. Especially if they split it in the past.

no contract saying they would split winnings in regards to alt. paying each week so yeah no claim. Even if married, if it was his money i'd say he keeps it all if he wants. Joint account would be different.

What men get is to stop getting bothered with it by their woman. Everything men do for women are for 2 things: getting laid, or stop being bothered.

Prove that you split ticket costs or alternated buying tickets then you get half. Otherwise, it's his money.

Yup, only men I know who get married are dumbasses or uggos who have to lock down pussy in fear they will never get another one.
You're getting exactly what you deserve.

Her claim is exactly why he should never marry her, ticket costs nothing, so I smell bs, she wants half the money, marry him n then take half of his 50% so in the end he'll end up with 25% of the total win...

If her burden of proof is strictly from a verbal contract then this'll be an open and shut case if they aren't common-law.

All these poor victimized women you find stories about on the internet... I can't imagine all the negativity you subject yourself to, makes you a very pleasant person to be around.

As per usual, you have some very twisted ass backwards way of thinking.

The importance of marriage... avoid long term "relationships"... STOP! NEVER give anyone relationship advice again, EVER!

First, this isn't motivation for marriage, what it is a lesson of not "playing house" to save money. If you're dating, let your place and your assets be yours, and let your partner have their own. DON'T CO-MINGLE ASSETS! Sharing space makes things messy when you aren't married.

Second, some states have what is called common-law marriage. Which effectually means that provided they are together long enough and for all intents and purposes behave like a "normal" married couple would, they are married. The state would then also need to be a community property state. [50/50 split of all assets]

Third, they've had 3 kids together. She can sue for child support.

Last, marriage doesn't guarantee greedy fuckers don't get away with sleazy shit. Of course we all know how some women just "take everything in a divorce" but men do it too. Anecdotal as it may be my dad "invested" his 2.5 million dollar (that was the last physical statement that could be found) retirement fund, back into the company he was 50% owner of. When he started cheating on my mom he got "fired" from said business, and "lost" everything. So my mom got to split the house $50k, and she gets $500/month in alimony for the rest of her life (or his). Now she could have hired a forensic accountant to comb the company books and find said money... but that would have cost her $60k... and its possible they wouldn't have found anything. My Dad is back working at that company and set to retire in a few years... all of his assets are now in his new wife's name... solely. Point being... even in a state like California... where they don't fuck around where divorce is concerned. People still get screwed. MARRIAGE IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Perhaps if you spent less time telling people to get married lose weight and move to Canada you yourself would get married @Tennisace

im sure that they both have plans to utilize the money for the betterment of mankind....or thjey just want to blow it all on stupid shit like 10 houses theyll never live in, cars theyll never drive, baots that just sit on the dock, tv's clothes, jewelry, drugs, booze, prostitutes. all that lotto money gone.
probably better that neither of them get any money, than any of the money cause more bullshit drama
