Not sure if that was a joke or serious on the Q&A, but I really hate how they're trying to force people into authenticators. Like for example letting guilds set ranks for "authenticator only" people... It's like being forced by insurance companies to have a retarded car alarm despite no one ever takes these alarms firing off seriously, so it's just a pointless waste of money and time. Most people get "hacked" due to account sharing, buying illegal services, clicking blatantly obvious phishing links and so forth. I don't want to be denied access to my game because something didn't work well on some phone app.

The authenticator ranks are a good thing, you might trust someone as an officer but they could have shit for internet sense and security and get hacked, suddenly your bank is gone.

I have to laugh at those getting butthurt over this, when it is so easy to remedy.. But all can say is don't go crying to Blizzard that your account got hacked, because you were too lazy or stupid or both to add extra security to your account via the authentication dongle or the free phone app..

Actually I would like to see Blizzard say when someone calls them about their account being hacked "Do you have an authenticator on your account?" and if no then they say "We are sorry to hear that but there is not much we can do to help you, goodbye.."

Really? Cause I had to assign the key chain auth thingy to get the pet instead of the mobile app. (it was my brothers old auth key chain, so I didn't have to pay a thing :P) Guess they changed it recently.

This incentive tells me that there is still a sizeable portion of the community that still doesn't use two factor authentication.

I can kinda semi understand why years ago...authenticators cost money.

But now, I can only assume it's a education issue -- people don't know about authenticators.

There's quite a lot of people with weird hangups about using authenticator (it takes too long, the app will track me, it's not secure enough anyway, it can be hacked, I don't need it because I'm careful anyway, etc etc). If this incentive gets a few of them to finally use the damn thing it's worth it!

So much this,blizzard used to not ship the authenticators to my 3rd world shithole so I used this for years (still have it as backup if I lose my phone or something) works fine even today. and yeah you get the core-hound pet
