Yeah, I liked that record and most of the ones before it. Last time I saw them was this year, and I went to see Against Me! open for them.

I will say this, though: they're much better live than Blink 182. That band is just atrocious.

I saw them in VA this year. I think they still rock, even thier new album. The messages in thier music appeals to me a lot. :3

Although my music isn't what everyone would like, I am proud to say that there is nothing but real instruments, and no artificial assistance in our recordings. There is a little bit of snipping for production purposes, but it is nothing that hasn't been done for the past 40 years or so.

Good stuff. I will check both out today. I recorded 2 albums myself years back, and admittedly did use drum samples for them, because... well, it was financially the only route available to me, given that it was entirely self funded. Everything else was played.

The plan for the 3rd was to do everything old school, not even with a click track. Never did get there.

My father plays drums in a local band, they made a few albums and one time I asked the producer how most bands record music today (since like you, I heard that most people just record a riff and then reapply it throughout the song and do the same for the drums), he said that yes, some people record it like that but that's just your typical pop songs, but when it comes to bands, everyone plays the full song - start to finish as a whole band.

Sorry... full band in 1 room live recording stopped being a standard approach in the 60's. It can be done, sure... but it is not what's typically done for most genres. Isolated recording isn't just a pop song thing, and there's a myriad of reasons for that, both technical and economical.
