we have a class system in the UK (as much as politicians like to say we dont and its all abolished its still prevalent in the culture)
theres a whole bunch but there generally grouped into upper/middle/lower class with upper being the reserve of the aristocracy.

    for a full list theres:
    lower classes
under class - vagrants and untouchables bottom of the pole live in council houses or are homeless with long term often generational unemployment.

unskilled semi skilled working class - bottom of the working class general labourers but have modest private property

skilled working class - top of the working class and can break into middle class with a bit of effort these are tradesmen and the like.

    middle classes
lower middle class - office workers
middle middle class - technical workers like soliciters and accountants and specialist IT workers e.t.c
upper middle class - business owners, CEO's e.t.c

    upper class
very small group reserved for the landed gentry.
    dukes
    earls
    barons
    marquee's
    lords of the Scottish parliament
    visicount's

on the note of cultural difference between the UK and the EU here what a chancellor of Germany once said in 1975
1975 Helmut Schmidt, the then Chancellor of West Germany stated that:

If one asks oneself what are the true reasons for the differentiated development of societies and economies between the British and most ones on the Continent, I think it has something to do with the fact that British society, much more than the Scandinavian, German, Austrian, and Dutch societies, is characterised by a class-struggle type of society. This is true for both sides of the upper class as well as for the working classes. I think that the way in which organised Labour on the one hand and industrial management on the other had dealt with their problems is outmoded.

    Office workers are middle class?

Wow, just wow. I would really suggest that you just stop posting at this point. Because pretty much the only thing you are achieving is to show everyone reading your posts just how deluded your world view is. Unless you are happy to project your prejudices and bias out to the outside world, in which case knock yourself out. It will brighten the day a little for everyone reading it.

    Certainly made me chortle.

hay im just going of the BBC and Wiki. personaly id have put most office workers at the upper end of lower class

personally i find your world view very nieve and dangerous and part of the reason why the world is slowly coming undone. you are the reason the right wing is on the rise and that is truly terrifying

Not? Talking down to people and calling them 'Ivory Tower Liberals', about how what they are currently doing is bad and leads to them losing and continue to lose does strike me as showing an attitude of patronizing superiority.

Europe will hurt losing the UK its not some tiny baltic state that leaving, the Uk will hurt leaving Europe. what matters is how we go about going our own way.

leaving Europe wont kill Britain, the Uk leaving wont kill Europe it will suck for both for a time but in 50yrs it will all be water under the bridge. the Uk will have what it want's and the EU what it wants.

joining the EU was a mistake with questionable moral and legal standing (the pay out heath got raises a few eyebrows) that mistake is now fixed. time for us to make the most of it.
Well the 75 referendum would disagree but it is what it is.

Bullshit. You've used that excuse twice by now, and I am not buying it. I know dyslexic people and they take extra care to have correct spelling. Even going as far as using spell checker for their posts, because they don't want to look stupid.

You're just lazy using it as a cheap excuse while there are people out there actually suffering from it. You should be ashamed of yourself.

yea but people have all eady pointed out the issues with the 75 referendum. one of the big things that came from the last referendum from the older population was a feeling of being lied to in the 75 one. and you can argue they weren't all you want they still believe they were and voted accordingly

look on the bright side guys after The last jedi you should be prepared for disappointment.

And in some years time perhaps reciprocal feelings of being lied to in 2016 will lead to the UK rejoining the EU (you can't tell anybody with a straight face that anything Team Leave said wasn't a lie).

I can confirm it as a dyslexic OCD with spell checking.

The shit you have it. I know enough people suffering from it to spot a lazy person with bad writing. You don't even need to make an excuse. We can deal with bad grammar and spelling. Just don't use it as a cheap excuse, it's disrespectful.

A dyslexic programmer that can't be arsed to check for his spelling, i don't even want to imagine what his code must look like.

Well, a lot of the things that you might consider condescending from 'those liberals' might also not be meant condescendingly, but people stating what they believe to be true. There isn't really anything ad hominem with telling you that you sound just like those you complain about, just with a different imaginary moral high ground. I did not say that your argument is invalid due to your character or anything at all about the argument itself. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy of condescendingly complaining about others being condescending.
And, really, people should stop using liberal as a buzzword like this. There are super rich conservatives and there are dirt poor liberals. Even some of the people here that you seem to have a problem with in this thread might actually be closer to conservatives. I myself keep being called a liberal when I speak for helping refugees in need - even though that is me being a conservative from a relatively devout catholic family. People can have very complex beliefs and don't like to be pigeon-holed into being called 'ivory tower liberals' or something like that.
I mean you seem to lop me in with everyone else that has disagreed with you in this thread, despite the fact that I never ridiculed you and only discussed the points.

  19. #2739
I don't agree with much of what tripconn posts but it would seem that playing the man has reached new lows with people not even bothering to make the slightest attempt address his points and our resident expert even going so far as diagnosing a total stranger's medical conditions over the internet.

I wish you all a happy New Year, whatever side of the debate you fall on, and hopefully we can drag this thread from the gutter for 2018.

  20. #2740
Well this thread went downhill. I mean, even by its own standards.
