What even is a toff?

derogatory term for rich southerners, usually born into money and never had to work a day in there life, they like to think that gives them the right to look down on others. good examples can be found in the tory party.

we have a class system in the UK (as much as politicians like to say we dont and its all abolished its still prevalent in the culture)
theres a whole bunch but there generally grouped into upper/middle/lower class with upper being the reserve of the aristocracy.

under class - vagrants and untouchables bottom of the pole live in council houses or are homeless with long term often generational unemployment.

unskilled semi skilled working class - bottom of the working class general labourers but have modest private property

skilled working class - top of the working class and can break into middle class with a bit of effort these are tradesmen and the like.

middle middle class - technical workers like soliciters and accountants and specialist IT workers e.t.c

as much as i hate to say it Churchill and thatcher were right the UK and Europeans are not compatible in there mind set, culture or vision of the future for us to work together in a union. since joining we have done nothing but hate it now we can argue back and forth all year about whos opinion of the EU is right but at the end of the day the majority of the people of the UK dont want to be in Europe and id imagine most Europeans dident like us there anyway vetoing things. the UK and the countrys that were on this island before it have always seen them selves separate and yes you could argue we see our selves as better than Europe.

Europe will hurt losing the UK its not some tiny baltic state that leaving, the Uk will hurt leaving Europe. what matters is how we go about going our own way.

leaving Europe wont kill Britain, the Uk leaving wont kill Europe it will suck for both for a time but in 50yrs it will all be water under the bridge. the Uk will have what it want's and the EU what it wants.

joining the EU was a mistake with questionable moral and legal standing (the pay out heath got raises a few eyebrows) that mistake is now fixed. time for us to make the most of it.

Well, a lot of the things that you might consider condescending from 'those liberals' might also not be meant condescendingly, but people stating what they believe to be true. There isn't really anything ad hominem with telling you that you sound just like those you complain about, just with a different imaginary moral high ground. I did not say that your argument is invalid due to your character or anything at all about the argument itself. I simply pointed out the hypocrisy of condescendingly complaining about others being condescending.
And, really, people should stop using liberal as a buzzword like this. There are super rich conservatives and there are dirt poor liberals. Even some of the people here that you seem to have a problem with in this thread might actually be closer to conservatives. I myself keep being called a liberal when I speak for helping refugees in need - even though that is me being a conservative from a relatively devout catholic family. People can have very complex beliefs and don't like to be pigeon-holed into being called 'ivory tower liberals' or something like that.
