    story time...

last year (2016), one day before christmas, literally like 10min before the end of our last lecture, everybody got an IC(integrated circuit) from the prof and we had to figure out what it does during the holidays.

so everybody went like "how can you do this to us", "it's christmas", "we dont have time for this", "we want to rest too".

    ...

so the time we had the lecture again everybody had some wierd theories about their IC. me personally, i totally forgot about this.

so the prof asked everybody "what's the function of your IC" and everybody said what he thought. As he asked me, i said "it blends."

(this was the time, where everybody made videos of putting their electronics into a mixer and named the video "will it blend?), hence, thats where my answer was from.

the prof just smiled, said "okay" and kept on asking the other guys. it's quite important that many people said "yeah i think my IC does the same thing as person's X IC"

after he asked everybody he said:

"to be honest, all the IC's which were distributed in class were ment to be thrown away. Some are broken, some are working, no IC matches the other"
"if you really enjoyed figuring out the function of your IC, that's okay, but nobody here can tell you if you're right or wrong."
"I knew that many guys in here weren't happy about this "homework" during the holidays but some of you still did it."
"sometimes you have to not only say how you feel about something, you also have to act like that too"
"if you think this exercise was unnecessary, you shouldnt have done it, especially because it was christmas - and afterwards - don't pretend you did something and found some solution"
"you can take this as a lesson for the life, because sometimes other things are more important and if you rage about this fact, maybe this guy will borrow you his mixer"

School is hard compared to working and half of the things you learn isn't even useful in your life. xD

the real news story is whether pornhubs traffic will increase or decrease.. sorry OT.

meh kind of depends how long it should have taken and if he told people that some were broken... totally could change the amount of time someone spent on their project if it did something simple versus it was just broken and you thought you were supposed to fix it or something like that. Teachers think this shit is a lot more creative than students do, but in my mind every teacher that has a relatively small class knows already how much a student "cares" about a subject by stressing a paper needs to be x-y paragraphs long, the students that care enough will gravitate for a more nuanced and referenced work that generally is longer and explains things.

I will never understand why people think school is hard. These are some good years of my life.
The real hardmode starts after finishing it...

If you were learning 'casually' no wonder job is hard for you because you can't take serious anything and school should be taken seriously.
I like how you attacked two different people in your post (which you don't know), just because they have a different viewpoint than you. Consider visiting a therapist, tell him you have self esteem and confidence issues. You can work it out.

On topic: I graduated top of my class with a degree in mathematics. Studying was a lot easier than full time job. No commute, no annoying boss, I make my own hours, it's pretty fucking great. The only advantage that full time job has on studying is that "when I'm at home, I'm at home" which isn't true if you're a student. You study at home. But still - was much easier for me being a student.

Eh, discuss able to a part. Not using half the things taught in school for my job. And before the question, working as a IT Tech and support.

parking was a bitch at my undergrad, thus why i always lived on campus, so much easier. Esp as junior/senior where i got on campus apartments. But yeah school was rough then.. cause i hate taking BS that has nothing to do with my degree, like why is college making me taking 2 semesters of a foreign language or 2 semesters of biology for psychology degree O.o College should be core classes only, with the option of others for those that want to minor in something.

My advice to anyone wanting a degree is to find the school you who's name you want on the degree talk with them to find out where they accept credits from, like a local community college / tech school.. Go there first for all the BS side classes, then transfer to the "Big name" school for the core classes. Saves 10,000's dollars on your education and you still get the same name on your diploma.

also if you don't think you are ready or are not sure what degree you want DON'T GO. I wouldn't go to college again right out of HS if i had to do over again, hell i didn't want to the first time. I wanted to enlist first, and maybe go career enlisted, instead I went to college officer rout and sadly got RIFed at only 8 years. School just isn't my thing

Granted i'm no working onw my second post grad degree (Ph.D actually) but yeah school + work is the worst.

How long is your commute? If it's fairly short, just get a moped. for clarity, moped is a 50cc bike, not bicycle, with pedals to skirt the motorcycle laws, and is not the same as those toilet on wheels scooters. It requires no license outside of drivers license and parts are hilariously cheap and they are easy to work on and maintain, plus the best parts shop is in san Francisco so you can get quick parts.

Just food for thought. I wish when i was in college i knew about mopeds. It would have saved me a lot of trouble.

Work is way better. You actually have money and when you're done for the day, you're actually done. No homework and assignments.

Funny. I am constantly having to get certifications and learn about new things. I guess I am doing it wrong.

I think it depends on job vs career. You're right, I can think of many jobs that I wouldn't have to do any extra work to get by. I would't want to work in those places. It's why I got my degree.

I finished grad school with a 4.0 and studied casually for all but 1 class. 1 class I found hard but the rest were easy and required very little studying.
