Ronda Rousey Will Join WWE at Elimination Chamber PPV

Former decorated UFC champion Ronda Rousey is set to officially sign her WWE contract at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view event. Rousey made her debut in MMA in 2010, first gaining fame in Strikeforce, where she was the final women’s bantamweight champion. By the time Rousey became the first female fighter signed to a UFC contract in 2012 – after UFC’s parent company Zuffa purchased Strikeforce – she had a 6-0 MMA record, and would rack up 6 more wins as the first UFC women’s bantamweight champion.

Unfortunately for Rousey, the majority of winning streaks eventually end, and hers would be no different. In 2015, Rousey lost her title to Holly Holm in decisive fashion. It would be over a year before she returned to the octagon, getting crushed again by Amanda Nunes. Since then, she has effectively retired from MMA, but remains a big name in the entertainment world. A huge wrestling fan, Rousey used her “Rowdy” nickname with personal permission of legendary wrestler Roddy Piper, and her transition over to the WWE has been rumored for quite some time.

The rumors of Rousey entering the world of professional wrestling finally became reality at January’s Royal Rumble pay-per-view event. Following undefeated superstar Asuka’s victory in the first ever 30-woman Royal Rumble match, Rousey made a surprise entrance, strolling down to the ring to the sounds of Joan Jett’s song “Bad Reputation.” Rousey then made her intentions clear: she wants a match at WrestleMania XXXIV in April.

Rousey hasn’t been seen on WWE TV since the Rumble – she’s actually been off shooting a movie called Mile 22 – but last night on Raw, GM Kurt Angle made the announcement that Rousey would return to WWE at the Elimination Chamber pay-per-view. Angle said that Rousey would be signing her official WWE contract at the show, with the Raw brand. That said, WWE loves pulling swerves on fans during on-screen contract signings, so it’s just as likely that Rousey will surprise everyone and sign with SmackDown.

As for what Rousey will do for her presumed first match at WrestleMania, there are three popular notions being thrown around online. One rumor suggests that WWE wants to finally pay off Rousey’s appearance at WrestleMania XXXI in 2015 with a match pitting Rousey and The Rock against Triple H and Stephanie McMahon. If The Rock isn’t available, they would find a different male partner for Rousey. The other ideas involve her either somehow inserting herself in the title match Asuka earned by winning the Royal Rumble, or challenging the champion that Asuka chooses not to
was wondering when this would happen.

She was an undefeated UFC champion that talked a lot of shit and starred in movies.

Then got head kicked KOd once and her entire self confidence melted away and she was awful in the ring afterwards and her entire fighting style was thrown out the window and turned into a street brawler mess that would lose within the opening round.

Her mental state would be worthy of a university research paper

Quite accurate. Such a shame that someone with such an aggressive style was shook for life after one loss. Goes to show that the aggressive style was just covering up something else.

Well, she was world champion in Judo and took a bronze at the Olympics. She transitioned into a weird "flail" style of fighting in uFC though. It was impressive in results at first, but once fighters found how one dimensional her strategy was, they worked out how to beat her trick.

She should actually do well in WWE if she dedicates herslf to it. Her Judo background could lead to great visuals and gives her a solid foundation to build on. She obviously has the etertainment part down.

I don't think it's that big of a deal. Yet another celebrity cameo for Wrestlemania. They'll hype it up, a few thousand extra people will get a free month of the network to see her, and an hour later after it's over any interested parties will cease to care.

Well good for her, hopefully her life in WWE will be as profitable and entertaining as it has been everywhere else, she seems like a nice lady.

she fought once after getting head kicked by holly holms. she got her ass whipped but im not sure how you can claim that when she only fought ONCE more.

you make it sound like she kept fighting and losing in the first round.

Gotta be honest here, as a WWE fan and fan of pro wrestling in general I don't like this.

Her UFC accomplishments don't mean **** when she's changing career, she's nothing more than a celebrity fan of WWE who's used their fame to barter their way into a position they are woefully inexperienced for. WWE are pushing her hard because of the PR her involvement will generate, despite her being a total beginner who will need carrying/walking through matches (matches that will undoubtedly suffer because of it). At the same time she will be stealing the spotlight from significantly more talented performers who have spent years honing their skills.

We've been down this road before, it was called David Arquette and it was widely considered to be one of the worst things to ever happen to the industry.
