if they do that they may aswell ban card games (like magic, yugioh, pokemon, hearthstone), collectible stickers (football cards, nba cards) and other simmilar stuff
Are people really that miffed that they didn't get the genji skin they wanted in Overwatch?
Seriously, this legislation is a bunch of... well, unnecessary horseshit. You don't have to play the games if you don't like how they're designed and you don't have to buy lootboxes. Seems like people saying "we have no self control; legislate for us." Arguing that loot boxes is "gambling" is idiotic, especially when it comes to Overwatch.

The issue with a lootbox is that it is a chance at a cosmetic rather than just selling the cosmetic outright.
It's not a practice I agree with personally. I mean I play Overwatch but I'd say 95% of my loot boxes were obtained by playing.
What happened with just buying the cosmetic directly? Why does it need to be locked behind a game of chance? Why can't I go into the Overwatch store, buy 1000 coins and then buy the skin I want? Tell me the issue with it.
There literally is no issue whatsoever. Now yes it's cosmetic so it's purely optional but it's a questionable way of selling cosmetics in my opinion. Lootboxes that is.
I'd say paying for a chance at something that is not 100% guaranteed is a gamble at receiving said item personally. But that's just my subjective opinion on the matter. Key word is subjective because I don't want to try nor am I trying to present this as objective or a fact.

I dont play Overcrap . But i do care when it comes to how we give money to companys. As it doesnt effect just one game, everyone else starts to copy it and this causes it to ruin other games we like.
Also you may not realize, but some people are weak to gambling without knowing. They never entered casino, so they dont know. But lootboxes (aka game gambling) works the same and this causes people who will never get addicted in 1.st place, to get addicted.

Yeah, this is exactly what I was wondering, too. I've bought boxes full of MtG to get that one card I needed. Only difference I see, is that I could resell the unwanted cards (for less though) and you can't do that with lootboxes. I think they are a horrible invention, but I just don't see how you can ban them.
I play a game on my tablet where you summon monsters at random with scrolls that you earn in game, but very, very slowly. You can, however, buy these scrolls for money, but what they summon, is still random. You have no idea what you'll get and most of the time (like really 99,9%) they're useless. People spend THOUSANDS of dollars to buy these and get that 1 monster they need. These people are insane and addicted. But it goes to show, if you ban lootboxes and put the content up for direct sale, this particular monster might cost 10.000 dollar. No one will buy that, not even the addicted dudes who spend 10k in 9 dollar increments to get that monster before and you will also miss all the people who spend less, because they got lucky. They won't spend 10k at all. It's psychology 101.
That's a personal design choice that you want; not "gambling."
The item has no monetary value. You aren't "gambling" money because gambling entails that you are bidding money in an attempt to get more money. There literally is no issue whatsoever. i agree with the resell thing, but most of them are probably common cards that arent worth much, a few cents probably, i could do the same with my pokemon cards cba to sell them as i dont want to sell them on ebay and there arent many people who are willing to buy them in my country

Video game publishers can just add more purchases later to avoid the label.
