Well, Kubinka Museum is definitely among the top items on my bucket list. Largest collection of tanks and fighting vehicles. Many one of a kind items among them, like Maus prototype, IS-7, Object 279, Karl Gerat cannon... I want to see THAT:
I have never been but my suggestion is to go sooner rather than later, the way Russian relations are heating up with the West.
Way too corrupt. I woudon't go there. Check out Eastern Europe instead.
It's perfectly fine to go there as a tourist. I wouldn't move there in a million years but there is no reason not to visit if you want to see it.
Its really not that bad, but its def. a good idea to have a friend who speaks russian, to help you out... Also to prevent scams and weird situations.
Paranoid much? What do you base your fears on?
I'd say go for it, it's not like we're assassinating tourists or something.
Keep in mind though that you'll most likely need an interpreter and/or a local guide to have a better experience since outside of big cities most people still don't speak English well enough, if at all. It would also help to avoid scams.
I would also advise against discussing sensitive subjects with the locals (like politics or LGBT), even if they themselves would want to.
