Suggestion for BFA: Green Fire style quest for Hunters

Just a few things before launching into this big post:

1: This post will contain spoilers from the Battle for Azeroth Beta. Consider yourself warned.

2: This post has already appeared once on the EU Forums and once on Reddit but they are both by me so on the off-chance that anyone has seen this before someplace else and think like "NOW HOLD ON YOU THIEF" Don't worry - I'd just be thief...ing myself... ?

Green Fire style Quest for Hunters in BFA:

Some of you may or may not know about the Green Fire quest chain for Warlocks that came out back in Mists of Pandaria. If you don't know - Let me just quickly fill you inn so you get what I'll be going at with this post.

The Green Fire quest chain was a throwback to the good old class quests but designed in a MUCH better way - It gave Warlocks a specific quest chain which lead up too a scenario that held challenges which properly tested the skills of the Warlock at hand. Despite there being "guides" on how too do it and gear making it easier - Until the end of MoP; it was still hailed as a difficult task to manage as it asked for the player to be good more than anything else and universally it was loved + It's reward; granting the Warlock Fel Flames instead of regular flames was a fitting, worthwhile and simply cool reward.

After questing trough most of Zandalar - I got this idèa for a Hunter quest chain themed much in the same maner as the Green Fire quest chain which awards Pets themed after the Loa's.

Say once a Hunter reaches 120, they can obtain a specific item from mobs in Atal'Dazar or Temple of Sethraliss - Or maybe just from mobs surrounding said dungeons seen as locking the item to inside a dungeon may be a bit of a harsh requirement - The item turns out to be the fragment a Charm once wielded by a great Zandalarian Beast Lord that was one of the founders of the Beast system they have going at Warbeast Kraal in Zuldazar; said Beast Lord also had a great affinity with the Loas you encounter within Zuldazar.

The approach to this quest chain initially would have to be somewhat different from Horde too Alliance seen as how the Horde is kinda best buds with the Loa while the Alliance: Not too much - The quest leads Hordes to ask around for clues about the owner of the charm - While the Alliance needs to track clues them selves: Both of these quests leads the Hunter too Jani - The Loa of Scavengers: A Loa who both the Alliance and Horde has had interactions with. Jani happens to know where the remaining pieces of the Charm is located but he won't reveal it too you unless you complete a series of tasks for him - This is where things starts getting complex.

Unlike MoP: The Core abilities of each class is much different now and you can't really lock this challenge down to just one spec as it would be boring (Altough some may argue it should be BM focused because the reward is pets and some may be mad because MM Hunters are not suppose to use pets: But worry not I will get to that at the end)

Jani gives you 5 quests: 1 Quest which will test the mettle of each Hunter spec (I could go into detail on this as I got it planed somewhat but it would make this post longer than an average book so leave a comment if you'd like details and I can post it as a new chunk instead of making this one longer than what it already will become)

The 4'th quest will be one where he Shapeshifts you once more into a tiny raptor like creature and has you retrieve a lost possession, but unlike his previous shape shift quests - This one has some clever twists and turns + difficult tasks to do while avoiding bigger and more constant threats.

Each one of these quests award a fragment of the Charm but the core of the Charm remains which comes with the last quest:

The 5'th quest: Jani tells you the location of the core too the charm and leads you too a scenario and there's 2 different ways I think this scenario could play out:

A: The Scenario itself changes depending on what spec you enter with. Giving the Hunter the option to do the scenario with whatever spec they feel most comfortable with as the pre-quest already had a test for each spec.

B: The Scenario forces you to change spec underway and have different sections tailored to each spec and leads to a final encounter which is based on your spec - Meaning the scenario holds 3 different ends but you only need to do one of them and the one you pick is based on your spec. Or you can be forced to do all 3 of them - Both works in my book.

The reason I see these two ways as the only options is because designing the WHOLE scenario to be fun, challenging and overall doable by all Hunter specs considering their differences in core-abilities and basic toolkit: Would make the scenario rather too easy, too hard or just to messy - Yet if one CAN tailor a class challenge scenario like this to be GOOD regardless of what spec you enter inn considering the current huge differences baseline between the specs: Go for it - but I just don't think it would work.

Note: This last Scenario would take place within a phased version of Atal'dazar.

Once the challenge is completed: The Charm is restored, and once done you hear the whispers of a Loa, calling you to seek him out.

Traveling too a phased version of Rezan's temple in Zuldazar: You end up being greeted by the ghost of Rezan, the ghost of Sethraliss, Gonk, Pa'ku, and Krag'wa - All of which has had encounters with the Beast Lord which the charm belonged too. They strike a conversation about how the Beast Lord was one of the mightiest ever seen: He made some of the most ferocious beasts in Zandalar bow too him by means all the way from subjugation too simply earning the beasts respect - And as such: all of these Loas respects him just like he respected them when alive. You also learn that all of the Loas has been watching over you as you completed the previous tasks which was given to you by Jani - This is something the players CAN figure out themselves as each of the quests give by Jani sends you to zones close to where all of these Loas reside.

Just as the Beast Lord once held their respect: Now you too have earned the same respect - Both for completing the trials given too you but also for restoring the charm and honoring the great Beast Lord who once roamed Zandalar.

The reward if finally represented too you: Children of the Great Loa's all decide to follow the Hunter into battle as a result of earning their and their parents respect. This gives the Hunter 5 pets:

A Devilsaur - Child of Razan which is BM exclusive.

A Pterrordax - Child of Pa'ku which would become the first Pet in the Pterrordax category of Pets seen as these are currently not tameable.

A Frog - Child of Krag'wa which would become the first Pet in the Frog ctaegory of Pets seen as these are currently not tameable.

A Raptor - Child of Gonk.

A Serpent - Child of Sethraliss.

The Devilsaur and Raptor would be Ferocity Pets. The Serpent a Cunning Pet. The Frog a Tenacity Pet and lastly the Pterrordax which could be either Ferocity or Cunning.

Considering the powers of the Loa: It would be cool if these pets could change specs so you could decide whichever pet you wanted for whatever situation and simply say that they are gifted enough to alter their style of fighting to suit the situation they are tasked with:

Say if the Devilsaur is speced into Cunning it gains a slow instead of a healing reduction and as a Tenacity pet it can harden it's skin: And that all these 5 pets have similar options to be adapted into any situation: Mostly for the sake of letting the Hunter use whichever one looks the coolest by the Hunters opinion.

Considering MM is not suppose to use pets: I had multiple idèas for how this could work.

A: These Pets can also be used as Mount, so the MM Hunters may not be able to see the pet sidekick in battle but can still use it as a Ground / Flying mount so it's reward is not toally wasted.

B: Loas can speak and because of this: The pets will interact with the Hunter much like how some Artifacts in Legion spoke to their owners - Considering this I was thinking maybe MM Could summon the "Spirit" or a "Shimmer" of the Loa pets out - Giving them a VISIBLE companion that can interact with them but which can not engage in battle because the pet isn't physically there.

This has been a long post: But I would like to thank anyone who read trough this and I'd also like to say that any and all feedback is more than welcome.

Thanks again and have a good day.

Hmmm. After the Mage Tower & Artifacts, I'd be on board.

Seems almost battle pet-worthy, though, like the Celestial Tournament.

Not too keen on there being a variety of specs tested per quest, would be best consolidated, or spread across classes if developed multiple ways.

I'm totally on board with any kind of quest in a similar vein to the Warlock green fire quest, having a kind of badge of honor for completing a difficult challenge was the reason I mained Warlock for MoP and beyond (until ~mid Legion).

As written, I like it. I just think having any one of the pets be BM exclusive would be disappointing.

Love it. Would be just the kind of content, that I missed up until Legion. Still fondly remember that moment when I first receivey the vanilla Epic quest bow - sooo proud.

If there's a Hunter Green Fire questline, please let it be Dark Hunter training, that gives us red glowing eyes and allows us to tame undead animals.

Since I first started playing back in vanilla I've felt that Hunters, of all the classes in the game, should have their own class mount, like Paladins/Warlocks/DH/DK/etc, and that they should specifically be able to "tame" them as part of a class quest. It just makes sense. Why would a class that is in tune with the beasts of the wild have to buy their mount from some vendor? We sort of got this in Legion, with the Wolfhawk mounts, but it would be cool to get our very first mount this way. So yeah, I'm completely on board with this type of class quest for Hunters!

Most undead animal skins can already be tamed. My Forsaken Hunter alt exclusively uses undead models for his pets.

I wouldn't say most. There's a fair number that can. But also a large number that can't. Blizz is really inconsistent with it.

For a few example of those who can't be tamed, think of the skeletal wolves, raptors and wind serpents.

I wouldn't mind a hard but soloable cosmetic type quest for most classes. Like a Paladin one to give us permanent Avenging Wrath wings, or a Monk one to change our fighting style. Something to set you apart from others.

Personally I think getting one of those huge books on a chain would suit a Paladin better and maybe have Priests get some form of wings - But the Monk idèa with different fighting styles is something I’d be all aboard for!
