I'm split between how the combat should feel and play like. On one hand i can totally get the turn based elements from the older games (Have the mobile only version on my phone) on the other end i can't say i really dislike 15's either.
Is our nostalgia maybe clouding our judgment too much?
Is combat really the defining part of FF? Since it has been always changing and evolving
As long it's not episode based i'll probably buy it when it's released.
haaaaahhhhh........ thats aweful. Way to go which ever E3 showed that game off.
Sure, but it's kind of hard to make good games if you aren't making money.
At the same time it's kind of hard to make money off games if you aren't making games people enjoy and spend money on.
Square has also published lots of good games recently, and 2 more old school rpgs coming this year that should be good. It doesn't need to have the FF name on it to be a good game.
If they make it properly I don't really care that much. I'd rather an epic remake in five years than a disappointing one in two.
My issue is with how much of the story they're going to change, or how different some of the scenes are going to be. As long as the story is mostly kept the way it was, I don't think I'll care about very much else.
Yeah but square can just release a final fantasy game and make loads, ff15 sold well even though it was one of the crappiest games out that year. Bit of nice cgi, release a movie and some cartoons, promise a epic story with 4 dudes on a road trip and bam, you've made millions even before they play the game. Then you milk that universe for all its worth for the few people that liked it and keep throwing money at it.
Imagine if the game was actually good. Would have done even better
One of the comments under the article:
Shitty journalism. The title of this article takes a joke out of context: "Kitase then signs us off by making the joke previously mentioned in the thread, saying he wishes to keep on polishing up the game for the 35th anniversary, to which they all laugh and Hamaguchi responds objectingly "Hey that's a long ways off!""
So I do not know that the problem with the work CyberConnect2 was, but if this delay means there is a chance they scrapped everything they got so far and give me an action time-based battle system, I could wait until 2025.
Not even that. It's the fact they have to make that many to explain what should've been an easy storyline to follow.
"Kids having good time. Monster comes and destroys world. Monsters want to destroy worlds to get hearts. Kid stops them. Kid kills end guy. Game ends on where Mickey and Riku went"
"Kid magically has copies of him now. 13 random people want to kill him. Where the fuck did the heart guy goes, who knows. Mickey and Riku, fuck you. Blah blah. Here's 40 different branching paths of the story. go away."
That's honestly as far as I got until, I think, the DS game and then that went to shit.
It says a lot when Final Fantasy Peasant has to create a half hour long video explaining the series and I still don't know the chronology of the games, much less how the story ties together.
As it was previously said, KH1 was coherent, and then the sequels happened...
Good things are worth the wait. Just hope it won't get cancelled.
It's a shame that the FF series has turned into utter garbage. I have been waiting for a FF7 remake for a very long time, and they are not going to back up what they said they would do. FF15 was terrible, and that's me trying to sugar coat the abortion of a game.
Meh I think 15 was ok personally. Nothing spectacular but nothing amazing.
Still did pretty good in sales though. 7 million as of January 2018 so can't argue it's success. Only 3 mil less than 7 and 1 mil less than 8.
I'm still adopting a wait and see attitude on the remake personally. I don't mind if it isn't turn based and uses the combat style from FF15. But if they do shit like the summon system from 15 then I'll be pissed.

seriously whoever thought of the summoning system in 15 should be fired and shunned from gaming companies.
Also whats the point of having a party if you only control one member and the AI is so bad for the rest they are nothing more than a liability
It sold a ton of copies, mainly to nostalgic fanboys like me. I admit I bought it on pre-sale, and gladly took it home. After 4 hours, I was shaking my head... the game was sooooo boring. The story was mediocre, which is also why I didn't like 12 and 13.
I still play X all the time, and am one of the few fools who managed to get his blitzball team to level 99.
