How does the average soccer fan deal with the staggering volume of that nonsense cancering up their greatest tournament?

Don't try to put 100% of your attention into them. If it's clear the match is setting up to be a snoozefest, just do something else while just listening to the match and switching to it when some proper action is forming. I was just editing my thesis while listening to this match, and was kinda thankful it wasn't dragging me away.
