A lot of Croatia's shots weren't really close or dangerous. France contained them fairly well in the second half.

This is like saying that Spain were the best because their pass completion was so great. Stats don't tell the full story and France aren't a possession side, they were more impressive on the front foot though and were able to score two good goals from open play.
