It's almost like many of the people who continue to support Trump, including the cavalcade of Republicans verbally condemning him who refuse to actually take any meaningful action to back up those words, don't actually have any firm principles or underlying ideology beyond, "Power for the sake of power."

I think Trump is using straightforward reasoning. Russia has turned right wing ever since the communist USSR fell. Europe has turned left wing. Therefor Trump as a right winger focuses his criticism on Europe.
