THQNordic acquires "Kingdoms of Amalur" IP and other assets from 38 (rip)

    https://twitter.com/THQNordic/status...87044464697349

I am hype. I loved KoA so much! I ended up putting more time on the xbox version than I did Skyrim bak in 2012. The possibility of a sequel alone is just so exciting for this long thought dead forever IP!

I wonder how much it cost to get the IP. I also wonder if they're going to try and finish the Amalur mmo 38 died on.

I assume remaster is incoming, the game was kinda mmo grindy but combat was incredible. I don't think I've seen chakrams anywhere else.

Wow, this is really great news. The game is fantastic, I still go back and play through it from time to time. Really hope they're gonna make a sequal and not try an mmo though.

Only played the demo, but I did enjoy it way back when. I would be interested in the next instalment.

Am i the only one who thinks that KoA was pretty average? And i wouldn't get too excited given THQs history.

I enjoyed so much playing Kingdoms of Amalur, good game! I dont remember the story right now, but i do remember the combat mechanics were great! Playing chakram man that was fun.

I am sure you aren't the only one who is wrong.
it's a joke haha calm down

The story wasn't the best but it worked, it felt like an mmorpg with some great crafting systems, beautiful massive cities and areas and amazing combat.

Wow! Really happy theres hope for Kingdoms of Amalur once again. Fingers crossed, i really enjoyed Reckoning despite the simplistic combat. The 3rd person Skyrim thing was really cool and the world was fun to explore.

I hope they don't do the mmo and just keep doing the single player RPG.

Cost? Probably a cheese sandwich for Kurt Schilling.

I for one enjoyed it, and despite the Darksiders 2 remake having a rocky launch, I enjoyed it along with the excellent Darksiders 1 remake. I'd definitely be excited for a KoA remake by THQNordic or even a new release in the IP

? Wich THQ are you talking about? THQ closed down. Nordic is a european publisher/developer that picked up the rights. They are bringing out Darksiders 3, with a fraction of the cost the american THQ used up. Looks just as good too.

Oh btw, the game was average, but it had a vast world that gave it a 3rd person Elder scrolls feel.

This is good news. Hopefully they use the IP for good and not just make a medevil battle royal or something.

Nope. I never even got past the demo, there was just something I really, really didn't like about it. Maybe it was the fact, that it felt like an MMO when it wasn't.

Amazing sig, done by mighty Lokann

    THANK GOD!

I didn’t want to see that IP rot with the company that created it. I hope they do something amazing with it.

How is THQ Nordic as a company? I’m not immediately repulsed by their name, like some other publishers. So they can’t be all bad, right?

Holy hell, this is amazing news. If there's anyone I'd want working on Amalur its THQNordic.
It's a dog eat dog world out there, and I don't taste very good.

Company founded in 2011, they don't really have much of a track record yet as they have been mostly acquiring companies, studios and IPs since then(also serving as physical publisher for a lot of games that lacked publisher support). Their game list as of yet isn't that impressive, but they have acquired a lot in 2018 with Deep Silver, Timesplitters and now this. If they use the IPs they are picking up well they could turn into a very good game publisher.

I am not so sure this will be all that exciting. KoA was originally designed as an MMO which kind of made the scope a bit special. I doubt you are going to get a repeat, much as I would love it also.
The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always so certain of themselves, but wiser people so full of doubts.
