It must also be taken into account that Tesla and Musk isn't the same as the head of most large companies. Much of the success of Tesla and his other enterprises is the fact that his name is attached. While he is not shit that is great but if people get wind that he is looking it, or his genius is off the boil, then his companies will crash, hard.

I'm no fan of Musk, to me he is just basically the pinnacle of Silicon Valley tech billionaires and wall the self-righteous bullshit that comes with that.

What he has done is impressive, sure, that he seems to think he can save the world is a little narcissistic but he's a least trying, whether he is actually succeeding is a different question though.

There are individuals who take risks even when others don't see a reason to, on ideas which others deem "useless". Without taking these risk and following your vision, you won't get progress. Sure, Hyperloop might end up being useless, maybe some tech will get salvaged for it and pave a path for something else that might do great things, but without that small baby step, you aren't getting shit done.

The risk being that you have a vacuum chamber hundreds of miles long where one fault would compromise the entire system that'd result in the deaths of hundreds (if not thousands) of gullible travellers.

This isn't something completely groundbreaking and new like spaceflight was in the middle of the 20th century. The tech that is being used for it is already being used in other fields. So don't try to preach something like the Hyperloop being some sort of brave endeavour with great potential, because quite frankly it's embarrassing. You might want to pick up the mic while you're at it, don't litter the forums with this garbage.
