It rather looks like some people here are disappoint to have their porn content removed from a website they prefer.

I might get wrong vibes here but it seems like you people think that adult content and whatever the main goal of a website is, should go together.
    I think it should not.

So basically, you have typed it in and you know?

Depends on what that goal is. If it's traffic, porn is one of the best drivers of traffic.

Look, of course tumblr is not about porn and i couldn't care less if it was or not. Fact is, though, that it became a network for artists and... not sure if some of you are aware or not... sex tends to sell and thus people were flogging to that site to some of those artists that didn't have a platform anywhere else. Pulling the plug on this so violently and above all basically with the flick of a switch (they banned and removed content long before the anouncement was out, mind) is a good way to alienate a large chunk of people only there for this, but also people who are irritated and annoyed by the way it was done, which a lot of people evidently are also leaving over. Im pretty sure that but a nail in tumblrs coffin. Especially since Tumblr is not by a long shot unique enough to carry... The people just go somewhere else. Mostly twitter... Lets see how this goes.

Porn is actually one of the biggest innovators and test of internet technologies, believe it or not. Guess who really brought advances to the video player...

Sony was just a warning shot. Begun, the war on lewd has.

this is essentially like pornhub banning all porn...

whoever came up with this decision will be fired in under a year, what a moron.

I wasn't even aware Tumblr was anything but a porn hoster.

If they remove porn they can just simply close down.

tumblr was the place for quite a few fandoms and they pretty much killed them off in one fel sweep. its like live journal all over again. the best part is whatever the heck they are using for their filters is complete and utter rubbish, becasue they have been flagging pictures of pets, archeological fossils, peanut butter, etc etc. and they don't notify you when your image was flagged either, so the only way to find and dispute it - is to go manualy post by post through everything you posted.

    its pretty nuts.

it will probably stick around for another year or 2 until new platform comes along, but they pretty much just committed a suicide.

    I don’t care.

I support all efforts to regulate or restrict the internet. It is making our species unempathetic, and retarded.

Is it me, or has there been a real spike in the internet's normal levels of stupidity over the last few months? Blizzard's BFA and Diablo Immortal, Bethesda's Fallout 76, Valve's wallet-squeezing Artifact, and now Tumblr attempting to solve the CP and pornbot problem with the nuclear option?

Maybe we officially entered "The Darkest Timeline" ?

I love the idea that they're doing this to appease "globalists" and not conservative American prudes who've been denying advertising revenue from anything with a whiff of non-PG content for decades.

Quick, someone start an adult themed blog site, there's an opening in the market, because Tumblr is DEAD!
They already exist. Pixiv is one that I know of that content creators use for their art that falls into the NSFW category.

Porn access has been easymode since at least the late 90's. Hell, people were using Kazaa to download porn when I was in high school because by then everyone had jump drives or an iPod.

uh, pretty sure its the liberal SJW theyre afraid of. im conservative as they come - we dont fit a mold. I dont believe in god, i believe in legalizing drugs, i think the western approach to sex and nudity is ass backwards of all, yet i am republican and conservative through and through.

nobody is concerned/afraid about how the conservatives view things as we dont resort to childish tantrums and they know it.

This is a hilariously stupid idea. There is so much content on tumblr that has an adult focus. Artists are an absolutely massive amount of tumblr and many of them do NSFW art simply by commission, I'd say a majority of artists are willing to do NSFW art. Combine this with plenty of other porny blogs and it makes up a solid 60-80% of tumblr I'd imagine, even higher if you include blogs that reblog NSFW stuff.

Why not just have people be members and opt-in to NSFW posts, and create an entire system for it? Why delete them outright? The website is legit going to die and there's no way they can't understand this.
I partially wonder if this is an intentional suicide from a website that wants to fall off the face of the internet. I remembering seeing an article that had the original creator of tumblr mentioning several years back that they personally didn't approve of the direction tumblr took after launch.

In all honesty, I long for the day the world and particularly the USA as a whole stops acting like boobs, butts and dicks are the bogeyman and start acting like adults. This christian-fostered vilification of sexuality is really old and as the US becomes more secular I wish they would take another look over how they view the human body.

more or less what im thinking. to run a site so successful one has to assume they know the repercussions of this. shame. tumblr>pornhub imo :P

Then in that respect you're very much an outlier.

    I know?

Point is, major websites generally do not allow sexual content because if they do a lot of advertisers will steer clear - because those advertisers want to appear family friendly and don't want to be the next victim of a conservative moral panic.
