I mainly think his age is the issue. Dudes older than dust at this point and these campaigns wreck the body and the soul, he is older and more fragile. I'm not saying he couldn't do it, but I fear he wouldn't last long and be dead before the election. I love and respect him and don't wish him that kinda passing. For the primary, I have an opposite view. If the Democrats are going to defeat Trump they need to not do what they did in 2016. They need a rowdy, brutal and vicious primary. If for no other reason than it gets airtime and views. Trump got a lot of star power from his antics in the primaries. The GOP primary was vicious, massive, cutthroat and tough and it produced a winner. The Democrats need that, they need a no holds bar bloodsports primary. A Thunderdome of mortal kombat verbal killshots to produce the kind of vicious killer that can one up Trump and capture the lost ground from 2016.

Having another sleepy and quiet coronation of an establishment darling is a major misstep in my view. They don't need a princess crowned, they need a killer.
My biggest problem with Tulsi is she is all over the map on a lot of issues some of which are very troubling. I am willing to listen as this campaign season goes on but she has some big hurdles to cross and some splaining to do.

She is Hindu and Anti-War generally and my only major gripe with her is her "Israel is our greatest ally" talk.

What does that phrase mean exactly? I mean, I know what the words mean, but that phrase seems to have special meaning - like a larger context.

Well that and she worked with an anti gay group that promoted gay conversion therapy as well as some other very religious policies that trip my danger will robinson sensors.

She also picked a lot of odd fights during the obama years that cost her a lot of backing with the party as well. I am willing to see how she does explaining some of her past choices and if she has moved on. So far I like warren out of all of the choices I have seen so far she is smart as a whip and her main economic focus is one that really is needed now. She has an amazing ability to make hedge fund dude bros who think they are the smartest guys in the room poop themselves under questioning.

She did all that, yes, but has clearly done a 180. Her voting record demonstrates this as well as multiple apologies that she's given on the subject. It seems highly unlikely she's still anti-gay and just trying to fleece us on this.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Warren as well. Honestly, as it stands now I'd be happy with Gabbard, Warren or Harris. I need to research Gillibrand more, but I know she at least ticks off some of the big items I want to see, like medicare for all. I also need to research Castro more.

Of course there's a lot of time for things to change and develop between now and 2020.

Broadly speaking I like all of them, but since I know how these things tend to go I'm really not doing much more than casually observing until the primary season starts in earnest and I can get a better sense of how things may shake out and know more about whom to focus my research on.

Yeah, true. I suppose the excitement of getting to 2020 and getting rid of Trump (or whoever) might be inspiring me to jump the gun a bit

Considering pretty much every Democrat has pulled a 180 on the whole same-sex marriage thing, I don't see why that would explicitly count against her. It didn't hit Hillary or Obama.

It’s going to be a shit show. If I were a Trump supporter, I’d have a thread titled “Democratic Primary Shitshow” ready to roll out. You just cannot tell who will fall because they screamed ‘hurrahs!!’ and who will succeed in branding those who disagree as unAmerican. Then you toss in the troll vote... the next thing you know, it’s Trump versus Ojeda...

Yeah, I don't fault Democrats for being anti-gay marriage back in a time when it'd be almost political suicide to be pro-gay marriage.

I guess it would depend on how recently and consistently the candidate swapped.

As of right now, I'm thinking Warren or Harris, but I have nothing against Gabbard or Castro or Biden. I'm open to seeing how things shake up over the next two years.

Warren is too old and so is Biden.

Please stop electing geriatrics to the White House.

    Yea you can?

They earned that label when they completely refused any discussion during the Obamacare process. Then McConnel made it clear he was obstructing Obama just for the sake of obstructing Obama in statements.

You can call them the obstruction party now because even when they had unified control of every branch of government they did nothing except some very unpopular tax cuts. They have no interest in governing and are still trying to play themselves as an opposition party. What were the titles of a lot of articles leading up to the government opening again? "Where is McConnell?" because he was fucking missing for a month. He allowed no votes, he held no discussions, he made zero effort to end the shut down.

Republicans are the party of obstruction, even when it comes to themselves. They fucking obstruct themselves. Because apparently they have become a party incapable of governing and can only exist as opposition.

No, I'm just not a parrot who repeats non-sensical ideas. You can't call the GOP the party of Obstructionist because of how they acted under Obama when they lacked control over any branch from 2009-2011, held the house form 2011 - 2019, and gained the Senate in 2015, and refuse to give that nomenclature to the Democrats from 2017 onward. All I'm asking is that you apply your standards consistently. Assuming I actually called Democrats Obstructionists, it was clearly using the definition you and your cohorts continue to use. Clearly at this point, there is no underlying definition and it's a term you use because you're programmed to, much like "racist" and "bigot.” But thanks for demonstrating you lack basic logic skills and are quite literally parroting my own post with no thought of your own!
WTF? They held a Supreme Court vote for a near year, because it was a year before election. There was no investigation or anything of the sort. GOP literally blocked a nomination, because a year is not enough time. McConnel once filibustered his own proposal, because he was bluffing and democrats went for the bluff.

Even with ACA, did Obama go with universal coverage or midicare for all? No, he went with the plan GOP used against HillaryCare, since they have done jack shit else for healthcare since then. It wasn’t a fucking wall that is just a campaign promise. It was a compromise from the start. No national security executive order and no whispers of declaration of a national emergency.

Edit: Just a reminder, the shutdown started with Trump refusing to sign a budget that made it out of GOP controlled house and senate. If the democrats are so obstructionist after they took control, why wasn’t the budget signed before they took control? Why wasn’t the wall passed in the last 2 years?

Did Trump want someone else to blame for the future? He wanted that same old, ‘democrats signed off the wall too’. So in a future election we can have a GOP member show he never voted for the wall, while his opponent democrat did? Because we had that happen already with Iraq war. How about NAFTA? Also, was a baby of Bush sr, to the extent he held a signing ceremony with Canada and Mexico, before being voted out and having Clinton actually sign it. Who gets the blame? That’s right... democrats... because they compromise and then get blamed for it.

A progressive champion who gleefully recalled threatening homeless parents with jail over truancy and laughed at the idea of building more schools versus more jails and with zeal covered her own teams misconduct.

Glad to see the plan is Hillary Clinton + shade of brown and hope that works.

To the surprise of no one, Cory Booker is getting ready to announce his bid for 2020. It was obvious during the Kavanaugh hearings that these two were turning the hearing into a circus so they could get some name recognition for 2020. I hope Biden or Bernie smoke these fools in the primary. The Dems can do a lot better than these chumps.

Booker has my vote... I was in NYC during his rise in NJ. Not basing it on recent events, but he is a good dude.

I have some friends from Jersey that like him. I'll wait until I see what his platform is about before I pass complete judgment, but so far I'm not impressed. Harris, on the other hand, I would have a hard time voting for.
