Yes, there's something wrong - you don't recognize racism (as readily) when it's facing in the wrong direction. What she said was racist. If she said what she did about black people, it would be recognized as racist more widely than now. Mind you, I am not offended by what she said much, but yeah, if we are going to have no racism, we should have it work in all directions, not just in some.
And the matter that a lot of people take issue with in entertainment - and other areas to be honest - is the seemingly 'forceful' introduction of diversity & inclusion measures which deep down is just virtue signaling, measures that are apparently based off from agendas, remarks and interpretations made along the lines of what Brie Larson did.
Notice that we recently had another Robin Hood movie where Jamie Fox played the role of Little John. And where was all "anti-sjw" outrage? Nowhere to be seen. Still, it doesn't detract from the fact that a black man played a traditionally white character, but apparently pointing such circumstances lands one on the bigoted bandwagon.
Not to mention the whole Netflix memes.
Not to mention the whole meme meme with the new Doom movie. A twitter post by Amy Manson with all 'who needs a doomguy' or 'taking over'. I'm sure one could take it as harmless banter, but that does more to undermine her message than anything else. It shows that someone out there is incapable of creating a captivating story with a female superhero to the point where we go back to the misogynists' favorite remark: They're so bad at making their own shit that they need to take over men's.
As a full blooded white man, I wasnt offended by that quote either, because that's pretty true, I actually saw a Wrinkle in time, and thought it was horrible, but then I am not their targeted audience, but thats not to say that I cannot enjoy stuff not aimed at me.
Chick flicks are something thats been around for years, These are movies not aimed at me and more mostly aimed at women, but as muhc as I hate chick flicks I can admit that although I am not the demographic I do enjoy some chick flicks. I loved The Break Up, don't judge me lol
These movies have their main audience who they want to aim for and that's fine, but that doesn't mean you still cannot enjoy it. It's like being offended because kids shows you grew up with no longer cater to you when you are like 36 years old lol :P
I love Warcraft, I dislike WoW
Unsubbed since January 2021, now a Warcraft fan from a distance
I honestly don't give a single fuck about drama.
An actress said something stupid ? I don't give a fuck, doesnt impact the movie
A fucking garbage human being think "Black Panther is too black" ? I don't give a fuck either.
And that's how I choose pretty much anything in life. If it interest me, I gonna see it, no matter what shitshow is happening on the internets.
A comment like that was always going to be baity. I think what might be behind some peoples annoyance with her is that comments like that come across as slightly confrontational, and uses someones skin colour and sex as a pejorative and as a justification for dismissing people, and just generally exclusionary based on race/sex. I think her point could have been made without resorting to bigotry. Now in the grand scheme of things, is this really a big deal? Is it really going to make a difference to peoples lives? Hell no. However it is perfectly reasonable to be irked by comments like this if you are a white man, as the comment heavily implies that this is a bad thing. Using someones race/sex as a stick to beat them with, I think, should be generally avoided whenever possible. Should comments like this be enough to justify going out and review bombing? I don't think so. I have found some of her comments annoying, but I still went to see the film. It is one thing to simply not watch it because you don't like her comments, but when people go beyond that it seems a bit much.
Of course not, they're a very loud minority. The internet is a megaphone for assholes, these people are mostly shunned basement dwellers in the real world and they have no real impact on it other than trying everyone's patience on forums and social media sites.
If by paraphrasing you mean completely misrepresenting. And you can believe those conspiracy theories about empty theaters all you want (lol), the movie made over a billion dollars and its run isn't even over yet. Made more money than either of the Guardians films...
Good thing you didn't come off sexist at all there.
How quickly we rewrite history lol.
Wow, if THAT is racist (presumably because MAGAboys don't like it), imagine how racist must be little rats squeaking that Asian actresses in SW ''SHULD BE RUPED, BUT THEY URE FUT UND UGLY''. Oh, right, it's true, because they are on your side.
For people who keep screaming racist slurs, you side sure mentally collapse at the slightest hint of criticism. (Is this even ''criticism'' to say something akin ''well, we are not making this movie just for you'' ?)

Yeah, this is the main thing. We got people saying its okay because its against white people. Just change the race and see if its okay. Racism is racism, period. That woman is trash. She is no better than Mel Gibson hating on jews and other minorities. I don't care if cap. SJW made 1 billion, it could do 2 billion, I am at peace knowing I dont support this kind of people with my money.
English is not my main language so grammar errors might happen.
