Gaming and WoW stuff
Like someone said, Jaina makes more sense initially since we have no idea where we're going at first. According to everything they've said so far, Azshara seems to catch us off guard and drop us down into Nazjatar.
Once we're there and realize we're finally taking the fight to Azshara, it really would be a shame if Tyrande and/or Malfurion don't show up at some point though. Same for Farondis and, even though she doesn't have any direct history with Azshara, Thalyssra.
OMG guys jaina is like totally chasing sylvanas across the ocean and shit goes down..... doesn't make sense to me why the elves who are having a hate boner for the Invaders of their home wouldn't be there
I don't think the whole "they're fighting at Darkshore" thing works to write them off the naga story. Timeline-wise, I believe that battle is over. If not, it doesn't mean Tyrande/Malf can't move around either. Look at Nathanos. He's in the Darkshore, but still participated in the Battle of Dazar'alor and will be in the Nazjatar as well.
What they CAN be doing is to have a small sect of Night Elves, similar in vein to the ones that kamikaze'd in Nazmir prior to BoD, escort both Tyrande and Malfurion, whose story will come to fruition once we're up against Azshara, while the main army can still remain Jaina and Kul Tiras.
Considering they decided to make hearthstones canon (because like with spirit healers, they feel the idiotic need to make gameplay mechanics canon), like when Tyrande used one to teleport Malfurion to Stormwind after Saurfang hit him during his fight with Sylvanas, I'd say there is actually a chance of it happening. And Blizzard will think players will see the reference and enjoy it in good humor. They do the same with "Not prepared" and "Merely a setback", even though those are not only not funny (and never were), but downright annoying.
considering the history here, tyrande and malfurion should be the ones for alliance and lor'themar and thalyssra should be the ones for the horde.
hell, even farondis needs to show up.
Why would Malfurion and Tyrande who are trying to reclaim Darkshore, be out at sea by Zandalar/Kultiras? Sure they're the people who have the most relation to Azshara, but they're not involved in the current story that takes place in that area.
This isn't the Molten Front, where the Horde and Alliance are working together and all the heroes show up(basically the entire world knows about the danger), this is more like Vashjir where the characters involved happen to be people that were in the area and is probably going to be an event that most of the world doesn't know about, until it's after. Kinda like how AQ was a world event, where everyone knew about it and was pitching in, but most people probably don't even know that another Old God named G'huun almost got free.
Thalyssra probably could have been worked in there, but we've got Lor'themar at least. Hopefully the writers remember that he's a decedent of the Highborne of Zin-azshara who were the closest to Azshara. I'm not really sure what Jaina will have to say, she really has nothing to do with Azshara, but then again she had nothing to do with LeiShen either.
I think Jaina and Lor'themar are purposely picked actually, because this is Garrosh 2.0 and those were the 2 that were involved with LeiShen, the 5.2 baddie(now we're doing 8.2) and maybe they're will be more than just Azshara's plot, but them coming to terms with what Jaina did to the Blood Elves and possibly forgiveness? We know at the end of 5.2's story that Lor'themar and Jaina agreed that Garrosh needs to be stopped, and I feel like we're going to have a repeat.
I'd rather have Gral's followers getting revenge on the Naga
And the Darkspear
And the Nightborne getting to see what they narrowly avoided
While on the Alliance we could get... Uhmm...
Kul Tirans I guess
This world don't give us nothing. It be our lot to suffer... and our duty to fight back.
Was that in the RPG? Sounds like vomit-worthy RPG lore right there.

They're non-canon entirely. Some of their events might make it into WoW but many (Thank god) will not. Keep in mind that the RPG books also said that Alexstraza would be the one to reignight the Sunwell and that the Blood Elves and Night Elves would try to stop her.
The night elves are already on the verge of extermination, and you want their leaders to insta tp to go with Jaina just because "omg it's azshara, and they fought her 10 000 years ago!!!"
Also Tyrande and Malfurion can't even defend their own people, why would we need them against Azshara?
It would be at least supported by the Alliance talking after the Dazar'alor raid:
“My king, the attack on Zuldazar was a resounding success.”
“The Horde is losing on all fronts. The Alliance should achieve victory in a matter of weeks.”

Not sure if all fronts include Arathi and/or Darshore ... but its the only hint I could find.
The night warrior will surely join the fight and stir things up when she sees a horde npc when we actually need to unite against the Naga Queen.
