Corrupted gear sounds like a horrible idea

Either the negative effect will be irrelevant, so it's pointless, or the negative effect will be so bad you won't want to wear the upgrade in the first place. Imagine getting gear that upgrades to corrupted only to not be able to use it. Imagine you summon adds in a fight and wipe the raid.

If you can't handle it don't use it. There's strings indicating we can cleanse the corruption if we don't want it. It's not a wasted drop if it drops corrupted.

Ya it sounds really dumb. I guess it's to much to ask for gear to not have pointless bullshit all over it.

Demon Hunter Panties are corrupted. They still look like a belt.

Just another layer of RNG on top of shitty RNG, because you're pretty much right. There might be a sweet spot for it before the effects get too bad, but then comes more simcrafting, or situations where you get a super good upgrade but it'll put you over the edge on corruption, making either it or a previous good drop useless.

Over all pretty much what I expect from Blizzard at this point.

Then what's the point of even having it?

Is it supposed to add difficulty/flavor to fights?

What do you mean handle? What does that have to do with being able to handle anything? If it summons void zones or adds in boss fights it either

    1) is irrelevant because the damage it causes is so small it doesn't matter
    or
    2) is gonna make you wipe the raid in which case you don't wanna wear it

Either way it's a stupid idea. It means either there is no negative effect or the negative effect is so bad you can not afford to wear it.

What kind of a retarded idea is that? Not being able to use an upgrade that has just dropped because it will wipe the raid?

Most people just want easy to understand, plain jane gear that is a clear upgrade just by looking it.

Anything fun or interesting gets ruined by spreadsheet heroes blaming their gear on why they stuck at 3/8 after 4 months.

Working together as a guild to balance out the effects for their specific group is labeled as boring/lame/unfun busy work that gets in the way of their spreadsheets.

It's likely supposed to only show void zones/mobs for a single person, not the entire raid. So you aren't going to summon mobs that kill your friends.

Yeah. A good player is going to use some corruption. It scales with how much you have, meaning if you only use a little you'll probably get adds that are a nuisance at best, or an AoE puddle that's just "take two steps left." And that stuff will probably trigger pretty rarely.

Mythic raiders will use more because they're insane.

If you're an idiot with 7 pieces of corrupted gear on you'll get multiple mechanics at once all of which can oneshot you and we will all laugh at you.

The key thing here is the fact it scales. There's going to be a point where the detriments outweigh the benefits, unlike Titanforging where there was no penalty to using it, and you ended up just stacking as much of it as possible.

To be fair in BFA up until now the spreadsheet was a valid argument. This system takes one of those problems out of the spreadsheet and into your own hands. 9.0 will remove outright the other problem, which was Azerite perks.

-You can do things like spawn void zones, reduce your damage and healing, summon adds, and more!
-Corruption can also cause cosmetic effects on your character.
That's all I needed to hear. I'm on board.

Remove rng and make something that gradually gets bettet as you do things in game.

The point is it scales. It's a limiting factor. As one person looking into it said in the main thread on this system, you probably don't want to go above 30 total corruption. At 37 the add you spawn hits for ~150k.

With Titanforging you wanted full Titanforge in every slot. With corruption, you're going to want a very low amount of corruption, concentrated in the right spots.

    I kinda agree with you.

If a RL tells you not to use your gear because the raid isn't good enough to deal with it....that would be kind of demoralizing for those in the group.
