Migrants easily cut through Trump's wall with a $100 saw

Trump’s ‘virtually inpenetrable’ Mexico border wall is easy to cut with $100 saw from hardware store

He’s building a wall — and they’re cutting holes right through it.

Migrants and smugglers have succeeded in cutting through President Trump’s “virtually inpenetrable” border wall using cordless saws that cost as little as $100 apiece at hardware stores. border agents and officials told the Washington Post.

Trump administration officials admitted being aware of “a few instances” in which people-smugglers managed to breach rebuilt sections of the $10 billion wall that Trump once promised Mexico would pay for, the paper reported.

The widely available saws can cut through the wall’s steel bollards within a matter of minutes. The 30-foot-tall panels can then be easily pushed forward, allowing people to pass through.

Most of the reported border crossing involving cuts through the wall have occurred in the busy area near San Diego, the paper said.

Past and present border officials insisted the newly reinforced sections of wall are still harder to cut through than they were before. They attributed the new breaches to the constant innovation of smuggling gangs, which amount to a multi-billion dollar industry of sneaking undocumented immigrants into the U.S.

“They’re not just going to leave San Diego because the wall gets better,” Ronald Vitiello, a former U.S. Border Patrol and U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement chief, told the Post. “That’s life on the border.”

Trump touts the wall as almost impossible to get through and has brought reporters along to show off what he calls the “Rolls Royce” of walls.

He has diverted billions in taxpayer funds that Congress approved for other uses to rebuild sections of the wall after famously vowing that Mexico would pay for it.

Apparently this is nothing new, they've been using tools like this for a decade.

Honestly these migrants are lazy, why don't they just climb it? An 8 year old managed it:

An 8-year-old girl climbed an 18-foot replica of Donald Trump's 'un-climbable' border wall in seconds

Or like, just use the tunnels dude:

As of September 30, 2015, 183 illicit cross-border tunnels have been discovered in the United States since Fiscal Year 1990.

But yeah, totally worth stealing billions from the military to pay for this exercise in futility.

    This was already introduced elsewhere.

That being said, this should come as no surprise to anyone. The second I saw their design, the image of some dude sawing through it popped into my head. If there is a profit motive to do something, people will find a way. In this case, that was was in aisle 16 at Home Depot.

When "the wall" was in its planning and prototype phase, the engineers were testing out various tools that could breach the wall. They succeeded with one of these saws, the DHS reported it to the white house, and Trump gave the prototype the thumbs up anyway.

Can't wait to dump billions on a wall that will be full of holes every tenth of a mile within a month.

A shame; I was looking forward to people pole vaulting over the wall, like Trump said the only way people could get over it (by being an Olympic pole vaulter.)

The wall is made in the US, so its not surprising.

    Guys.

I take it back. I take it all back. I was wrong about it all. Build the wall. Please. All 2500 miles of it.

    Build the wall!

This would not be a problem if it was concrete and steel and fifty feet tall like he first promised. But no, it had to be see-through so people wouldn't be hit by duffel bags full of drugs. (Deep state OSHA regs...)

You mean to tell me people in 2019 have access to power tools, ladders and rope? no one could have seen this coming completely blindsided that a wall from the dark ages doesn't work /s

At least their intentions are pretty clear - we're breaking into your country even if you don't want us.

    Wall clearly worth the money.

    From https://www.washingtonpost.com/natio...6ef_story.html

"Some of the damage has happened in areas where construction crews have yet to complete the installation of electronic sensors that, once operational, will more quickly detect the vibrations that sawing produces on the bollards, the officials said. They also said one of the main advantages of the steel bollard system — which stands between 18 and 30 feet tall — is that damaged panels can be repaired or replaced easily."

"Vitiello, who helped oversee the development of barrier prototypes in 2017, said the administration could have added better deterrent features if Democrats in Congress had provided more funding.

“The bollards are not the most evolved design; they are the most evolved that we could pay for,” Vitiello said. “We never said they would be an end-all, be-all.”
    And Most importantly:
"CBP officials also have consistently said that no single structure, regardless of its design, can seal the border on its own. Rather, they have advocated for a “border wall system” that combines physical barriers, surveillance technology and the rapid deployment of agents to stop border crossers and attempted breaches."
And yeah, Trump says a lot of shit, nearly everything he says is hyperbole.

The alternative is no wall or barrier, so smugglers can just drive through rather than having to stop and go single file through a hole they cut?

The WaPo article is more balanced, but it still seems odd to me that they focus on "Trump wrong!!!!" at the outset rather than discussing the crimes and porous border.

As said in articles though, you need boots on the ground more than a wall. (At least until we get some killbots!)

Another fake news from these biased media.

It's pretty obvious you can't saw the bollards if the border alligators are jumping from the pit trying to bite your hand.

I don't buy it at all.

Donald Dump is too stupid to realize that the only way to make a wall impenetrable would be to make the bars out of titanium or some other super alloy that can't be cut with a fucking cordless saw.

They are servicing the illicit demand for drugs in the wealthiest country in the world. No wall or "border system" will stop it. The only solution involves a continental union that expands US and Canadian law enforcement jurisdiction, as well as free flow migration between union states, a plan conservatives will never go for, since it counters their brown invasion narratives that deludes insular rural whites.

No wall and no barrier would be the best outcome, coupled with the formation of a continental union which expanded US LE jurisdiction as well as the free flow of capital and labor between North, Central, and South America. A non-starter for the "brown invasion is coming to both take welfare benefits and your jobs of rural Michigan and Pennsylvania" conservatives.

No joke, I would rather the smugglers try to drive through. A vehicle crossing the desert is a lot easier to detect, track, and intercept, and has all the people involved in a single point. Of all the ways that someone may try to get into the US illegally, that's the easiest to stop with the various technological solutions that we kinda need to have in place along the border regardless of what else we do there.

Its fairly common sense to see that drones and officers working in tandem would be a far more useful and cheaper. But hey monuments to racism needs to be built for his base so costs and use be damned.

The only reason it is a "monument to racism" according to you is because of Trump. It used to be a non issue to have border walls.

Cool. So are Trumpkins ready to talk about how to actually solve the issues they have with the border now or are they just going to keep screaming for the stupid wall?
