I'll reiterate my hate for Poe Dameron and everything he touches, in TLJ. Yes, that ends up including the casino sequence, even if I liked the worldbuilding aspects.
The arc for Luke was, however, everything I wanted. I was super prepared to hate it, but they actually came close to what I wanted for the character. Rey's path could've been fleshed out a bit more with Luke (cut Poe's content out, add more Rey). Develop Finn and by extension Rose a bit more as well. Kylo and Snoke and all that was great, IMO; I know people hate that Snoke died, but Snoke isn't the Emperor, he's Count Dooku; important, briefly, and then gone. People got so focused on the bad parts of TLJ they couldn't see all the stuff that was really good.
As opposed to the prequels, particularly Eps 1 and 2, which were just overwhelmingly awful. The effects already look cheap and dated in a way that even the OT doesn't. Nothing in the sequel trilogy compares to midichlorians or Jar Jar Binks or stupid-ass droid armies who serve more as comic relief than a fucking threat.
Trying to watch Clone Wars finally on Disney+, since everyone raves about it, and just wrapping up S1. And it's a fuckin' slog. Droid soldiers are again just present for comic relief most of the time, and in ways that are eye-rollingly unfunny. A whole episode dedicated just to Padme and Jar Jar. Ahsoka is just "petulant naive starchild" tropes at this early stage. I'm told it gets better, but the first season, man, is rough. And it's not because it's meant for kids; I'll watch stuff like Avatar the Last Airbender or the new Voltron and enjoy them just fine.
People used to be willing to overlook rough bits for the good stuff. That seems to no longer be true, but that means there's been a change in standards, more than a change in the films' quality.

Not sure if you've seen this, but rather than watching all the episodes you might want to follow a guide like this one: https://i.imgur.com/suvAMuY.jpg (for instance it only has you watching 4 episodes from the first season).
Even that, honestly, has some marginal, missable episodes. There is good stuff in the Clone Wars series, but I agree, it's a slog if you try to watch it from start to finish.
Really came though to say, I don't find Poe to be that bad a character, he just didn't warrant his own solo arc. It's admittedly probably down to Oscar Issac's charm, but he brings a lot of it to the table and it comes through. He and Finn together worked well, and he Rose and Finn could have been an entertaining trio, maybe foiled by Laura Dern. The casino stuff was really great in terms of world-building, but it belonged in a different film, it was a darling which needed to be killed for the sake of moving things and keeping the story focused on what mattered. The mutiny arc was honestly pretty terrible as well, just ill-conceived, if I could change anything I would slash both storylines and replace them with one. Even if it didn't end up being better, less is more - as it is, for me the movie is unwatchable without the scan forward button.
Wait... Are they riding horses on top of a star destroyer /facepalm
Here we go again...
Considering how shitty the last one was, I think we can rule this movie out.
Anyone who considers TLJ to have anything other than shit plot, shit pacing, and just being shit overall, we will never agree on anything Star Wars related.
Honestly VII wasn't great, but I could at least find some enjoyment in it. It wasn't new, but it wasn't bad. TLJ I was midly hopeful for, but when I saw it, it destroyed ANY desire I had to see another disney movie (I might watch some of the shows). The trailers have done nothing to make me want to see Rise of Skywalker (a title which I find funny since they killed Luke off, and Leia who in the disney cannon has only shown minor force powers up till TLJ is the last known Skywalker left) making it the first Star Wars film since I was born that I will miss.
At least the prequels had some nice world building, and the whole rise of Palpatine was a enjoyable plot compared to here is the big bad Empire we had in 4-6. So I don't get how we go from those to and the ending of 6 to suddenly 7 having Super Death stars, and apparently in 9 having super star destroyers. Also the entire team we had Finn and Rose on the screen I wanted them to die, their characters, the story they were involved in, the shoehorned by romance? All of it, purged in fire. Honestly would have found it x10 better if they made Finn and Poe a couple, it was more believable and setup for.
Honestly I wrote pages about this when the movie came out, but 8 was truly the worst Star Wars film made for me, and killed all desire for a future disney Star Wars film for me.
Endgame will remain the highest grossing film of the year.

This.
The last blockbuster that broke records, both Oscar voters and audiences agreed was amazing, and was actually quality, was The Return of the King, sixteen years ago.
I dunno. I hate to re-use this argument, but it's a setting about space kung fu Buddhist monks using laser swords. Horses just make the whole thing go full circle.
Not that the scene has no potential to be ridiculous, I expect it will be in fact. But this is Star Wars, where hilariously retarded shit like the AT-AT or the fight choreography of the prequels exists (among many other things). "Ridiculous" is par for the course.
