So many people here seem addicted to their phones.
When was the last time you used it for an actual emergency?
I may be lucky and emergencies happen to me... well almost never...
and the geek shall inherit the earth
Same kind of people who film a concert are the same ones who film fireworks.
NOBODY is gonna watch ur shaky cam video with shitty sound quality
Are YOU the filmer gonna re-watch the video OR watch a proper concert recording with better video and audio?
When some asshat holds up their phone infront of me to "film" i always get tempted to smack the phone out of their hands.

2 years ago the nursing home my aunt lived in called and said she had been throwing up that day and they were going to send her to the ER.
An hour later we found out she had a heart attack and all her organs were shuting down. The dr. said she probably wouldn't last the night and before we got there he called right back and said she had died.
People do have emergencies that sometimes need the decision of others. Sure people lived without cell phones but having them is a lot better.
not giving up my phone, i just wouldn't attend the show. Need it for emergencies and just incase moments that are more important than a show.

its their venue they can do what they want. your not forced to go there.
r.i.p. alleria. 1997-2017. blizzard ruined alleria forever. blizz assassinated alleria's character and appearance.
i will never forgive you for this blizzard.
I remember when you left the house or work you were just gone. No GPS tracker. No instant text. No phone. Our civilization actually advanced to the point of having these things without having them. Which tells me life can actually work and go on if you have to go off grid for 45 minutes to an hour. Just saying.. and.. it wasn't even that long ago.
I have kids even. If I cannot be disconnected from them for an hour or two it is a major problem. I mean I sleep for 8 hours and they seem to make it..

My view is basically if I'm paying, I'll do whatever the fuck I want because you're not doing it for free, I'm a paying customer. You don't dictate to me, if anything I should be able to dictate to YOU. Anything else is complete disrespect to the people who pay to keep you in business or whatever.
My having a phone isn't any of your fucking business.
Man, some of the entitled people in this thread, lol.
I've never been to a concert so I have no idea what the etiquette is like. I'd guess that I wouldn't be bothered by a few people taking quick selfies and that extended videos would be obnoxious, but I have no idea.
The only live performances I go too these days are Broadway, and it's fucking annoying if anyone speaks, let alone take pics or videos. There is theater etiquette there, anyone who says otherwise is trashy.
It is not a black/white problem. On one hand you have morons filming and blocking your view or pulling out a phone in a theater, with the screen blinding everyone's eyes and then start arguing loudly with the caller. On the other, emergencies, while the most overused excuse, are a thing because shit does indeed happen.
Middle ground - take the phone with you, but put it on silent and do not film events (a paid professional from the crew will do that better anyway).
