I think public purity tests are no better now then when it was based around religion. People who must screech their virtues at you rarely have much if any.

Still if a person is determined to not buy a product because some random person said something mean let them build their shacks in the woods and grow their own food and bother us no more.

Slacktivism has never accomplished anything productive. At best you ruin a career or two and maybe drive a weak person to suicide.

Yes, I do boycott racists, regardless of whether they post it online, say it in person, or their beliefs get outed in any other way. I refused a contract with a company, because to of their guys on the contract were white nationalist. I'll stop talking to friends and family who are racist, and won't shop at the businesses who employ racist assholes.

That's what the First Amendment is all about. They are allowed to say what they want, and I am allowed to refuse to associate with them.

You could screengrab literally anything I post on these forums, and the most reaction I'd ever get would be about rudeness or crassness, not the meaningful content of anything I post.

I'd be more concerned about my bosses finding out I'm a regular poster to a gaming website than them finding out I'm a liberal market socialist by ideology.

Nothing about my personality or political views here are something that are in any way a secret in my real life. I have nothing to hide.

Also; no, my employers couldn't fire me for my politics. Literally illegal. If they found out I was (hypothetically) a racist? Not just fired from current position, with cause, but my license to teach would end up getting revoked, permanently.

    Except... there's evidence.

People are free to express their dislike for racists. When a person chooses to be racist, others are free to point it out to the world.

Welcome to social media 101 for all the racist dipshits insisting posts such as these should not plausibly effect employment status.

Keep it clean and PG13 at most in public if you want to insist on still being an utter twat, facebook and such is something employers very much scans when hiring (really, anything with your real name attached to it visible), it's not your private invite only discord channel with your closest buddies.

    Yes, I do.

I don't hound them, but whenever I see them on these forums or social media, I'll ignore. So many of them have outed themselves in this thread alone that my ignore list is well fed.

And they're free to say whatever they want, but are they really protected from societal consequences of what they're saying...?

Compare it to someone admitting to thinking that zoophilia and beastiality is not something to shun. He's free to say it, free to think it, but the societal response won't be a positive one, and he'll have dug that grave on his own.

The societal response to racism is only a problem if you're a racist, really.

I am not sure if I do so much, I tend to stop following them or take them seriously. If someone is going to be racist or shitty and not apologise or feel bad for it then nothing they say in the future regarding relations to these factors is taken seriously and they will be ignored by me.

Lots of "evidence" is subjective, not objective. Its interpretation depends on your subjective view of the world.

Ruining people's lives because they happen to disagree with your subjective point of view, is similar to behaviour of religious zealots.

It is especially bad when it comes to issue of racism. Dislike someone who happens to be black? Racist! Because of course there is no other reason person could dislike other person, right? Punched a black guy in the face? Obviously person who punched black guy is a racist, he didn't punch that black guy for some other reason, right? Cops caught a criminal, who happened to be black? Obviously they did it because they are racist, not because that guy was selling drugs or was robbing some place. Racism card is played so often that it has lost its meaning and many screaming "racist!" at everyone don't even know what that word means or use it to get unfair advantage over others.
This isn't a court, and being racist isn't against the law.

This is simply the use of free speech to counter someone else who already used their free speech. The government need not get involved, it's a disagreement between citizens.

If you look, evidence against the couple was provided, and it doesn't look great for them. People are free to call them out, call them racist, and just about anything else they want. they are free to push boycotts, and call for their employers to fire them. Social media companies are free to ban them, and stores are even free to refuse to serve them. You are free to scream, and call them zealots for doing so. That's what the First Amendment is all about.

Do you know what card is overplayed? The victim card.

I don't know about the husband but where is your evidence that the wife is racist? If anything, she is mocking the use of race card to overblow things. Her method is hardly tactful, but how is she racist?

The evidence was shown. It's literally how free speech works. Boycotts are free speech, deplatforming someone is also free speech and freedom of association.. Firing someone is free speech and freedom of association.

If you don't like it, then boycott those "religious zealots."

Lets take a look at your "evidence".

First screenshot: person doesn't want protesters in his town. Nothing racist about that. Absolutely nothing. He probably doesn't want disruption of businesses, he probably doesn't want streets to be littered with junk and rioters destroying stuff. Absolutely nothing racist about that.

Second screenshot: the only "racist" thing I see is added note to it by whoever made a screenshot.

Third screenshot: nothing racist there either. Just a gun crazy individual arguing with someone who wants to take his guns away. Also seems to be brainwashed about world events. Yet there is absolutely nothing racist in his posts.

Fourth screenshot: tasteless joke, but also mentions "#asianlivesmatter". Nothing racist about it, just mocking BLM that is a racist movement. All lives matter equally, focusing only on one race is racist.

Last screenshot: someone posted about being offended by screenshot above. Oh noes, he got offended and now playing racism card!

So basically you are full of shit, as usual.
Great, you are free to say it's not racist, and others are free to say it is racist. People are free to exercise that speech, and call for boycotts. You are free to boycott me.

I support your freedom to defend racism and racists.

He is a hypocritical rat that can't even get along with his mother. According to him, his own mother is a racist too. Just imagine that! What a sicko.

People that do and say racist stuff should just find an employer that is okay with these things and they would be safe.

What you are missing with your "free speech" is that it is not speech that has any weight, it is mob tactics. When someone gets attacked by a mob, they almost always cave in. They cave in not because mob is right but because they can't defend against many. Mob tactics are not free speech.
Nope, it means you and I disagree on what you admitted is a subjective issue. Once again, you would also be free to defend Trump's racism, as that is your right. I'm allowed to condemn Trump's racism, as that is my right. The same goes for everyone.

Your complaints about "mob tactics" are actually just open and free speech. It is free speech, it just happens to be free speech you don't like.

If you are going to continue arguing that boycotts and deplatforming are not free speech, then I have some bad news for you on where you actually stand.

Was I using mob tactics, when I told a company I was not going to do a contract with them, because two of their employees were white nationalists?

I'm willing to bet yo are one of the people who supports Trump's latest attack on free speech, aren't you?

Wtf? That's not even me lmao. Tsk tsk you're really losing it after being called out as the hypocritical rat and unfilial son that you are. So where is your evidence that the lady in this article is racist like you've yelled. Not to forget about your poor mother that you've insinuated as being a racist. Let's look at that mountain of evidence please!!!

The reason why people put suits before work is because it projects a neutral image. Off work you put on whatever you want and do whatever you want (in most cases).
I can see racism being a problem. But everyone's a racist from time to time. If it's a problem at work, it depends a lot on how much it interferes with work.

Do I have a problem with racist views? No.
Do I have a problem with racists treating people badly? Yes.
I truly believe that everyone should be allowed to have an opinion on something, as long as it's just that, an opinion. And it doesn't end up causing a problem for others.
You can't have free speech if you forbid parts of it. You either allow everything or you just don't.

Arguably, Asians are more racist towards Africans than Caucasians are. In my experience.

Lmao, the racists are really putting themselves on display here. So angry.

It's free speech to express racist views.
It's free speech to condemn it. If you don't want and can't handle possible consequences, stfu maybe, or seek out echo chambers? Any adult should have access to impulse control.

A lot of people really struggle with the freedom of association thing, particularly as they push for the law to allow them to discriminate. "Don't fire me for running my mouth on social media, but allow me to fire this other guy for being gay."

Hm for me a boycott of a person on social media stuff would be just blocking someone/ put them on ignore and cut my (potential) ties with them, not actively involving a third party just to make their life miserable out of spite.

But given that I am not using this whole FB/twitter/insta/whatever stuff it is really none of my business and no part of my life.

I think it's important to distinguish the difference between prejudice and racism. See because someone NOT being nice enough to me, or as nice as I think they should be is NOT a Racist. Someone being mean to me is NOT fucking racism.

Someone who holds a belief that because of race, gender or orientation that they are better than and by default ACTaccordingly in terms not treating someone fairly and equal based on merit professionally. Such as hiring, firing and promoting someone exercising some power over another. That is Racism.

In my OPINION if someone says something Stupid online, I really don't care what their background is or what they do, if you say stupid shit online, in this day and age you should be well aware of the consequences. Meaning because of your Choice and Actions if a company doesn't want to hire you or shit cans our ass, YES they should be able to.

However if someone chooses to be racist or stupid in the privacy of their own home or participating in a private organization, OH WELL!

The problem is when that crosses the line, and for me, crossing the line is when those actions hurt others not based on their choices, but how they were born. As for me personally, I have worked along side all kinds of people I disliked and HATED.

But the key is I never allowed my personal shit, to decide how I am going to treat people, and YES, I have said plenty of stupid shit, some of which I paid the price for, it wasn't anybodies fault but my own. Not because I felt the way I felt, but because sometimes there is a time and a place to share that.

Obviously online isn't always the right time nor the right place.

Oh and yes, if you are a racist and express racist thoughts, it is only a matter of time before that impacts your decisions making. If someone is a racist, fuck them they can get bent, and if they get fired or lose their livelihood GOOD.
