Why the hate for Nathanos?

Because Nathanos is more than a bit of a dickhead and even if the Alliance wasn't supposed to be opposed to him solely cause he was a member of the Horde, his whole holier than thou "I'm cool cause I serve the Banshee Queen" shtick does get on your nerves even without the hypothetical Danuser self insert aspects.

It's in reference to how his new model instantly beefed him up from the lanky kid he was in MoP as well as a slight goad at Golden.

He fought Tyrande Whisperwind, the 10,000 year old veteran of the WotA and chosen priestess of Elune who is also empowered as the night warrior to a standstill.

Of course, I'm sure you'll find a way to explain why that's not an unexplained growth in power like the tweets (which aren't new btw) aren't evidence he's a self insert.

Then suddenly he gets a new short story, is a major character in the pre bfa book, is a major character in bfa, is a major character in the pre SL book and possibly a major character in SL.

WoW is about people taking turns with focus and he's hogging screen time for characters that existed in a meaningful way before bfa. The only character who is more over exposed is sylvanas who is Betauser's in and out of universe waifu (shockingly).

Tyrande isn't some all powerful being, the night warrior shit just made her stronger, 0 x 2 is still 0. If it were Varian or any other character that fought her to a standstill no one would question it, but because its Nathanos it's some how unreasonable. Nathanos is the ONLY human Ranger Lord. After being turned his abilities would be slightly lower than Sylvanas (pre the BFA nonsense). When it comes to Human/Undead he is the absolute pinnacle of ability in the respect of being a Ranger. Tyrande isn't even the strongest night elf, wouldn't even be considered close, her fighting Nathanos to a standstill says more about the night warrior empower than it does say about Nathanos.

A character who continuously insults the champion of the Horde, always run away in the most cliche way possible and has received power from.. where, exactly? He is just an undeard human who was excellent with the bow. Thats it. Why he is even powerful enough to fight against Tyrande? xD

I remember him from Vanilla. An outdoor raid boss that sat in my quest log for months (and because there were no health bars in Vanilla, we had no idea how much HP he had. Everyone tried in a 5 man group or even solo at one point and got nuked), and dropped no loot anyway.

I don't think he was mentioned again in the game again (for alliance at least) until Teldrassil got burned, where my first though twas "who is that Dark Iron guy with Sylvanas?"

I've no idea what role he's played for Horde in the last 15 years, but I'm guessing not much. Probably only see him again in whichever raid Sylvanas is inevitably the final boss of.

I don't necessarily hate him as a character, but I feel Blizzard leaned on Sylvanas and Nathanos too long in order to get some story going for the game. They're just worn out and need a break. Plus fans enjoy seeing other heroes once in a while too

I hate Sylvanas more if anything. While I recognize her powers as well, her fight against the Lich King only served to make one of their other largest (probably larger) hero figures look like a total bitch. Super disappointing to me. I wouldn't have been unhappy if Bolvar had just clapped her upside the head, but we all knew that wouldn't be much of an intro cinematic

And this is where it starts getting wierd.

5. Brawls with Saurfang in Org in the novel. Was a show fight but apparently they didnt pull their punches and he equalled Saurfang. [BfA]
6. Holds off Malfurion and the Nightwarrior. Nightwarrior has one shot squads of horde yet cant do shit to Nathanos. Malfurion has stopped entire weather events created by Deathwing but cant do shit to Nathanos. [BfA]

Annnd now its just in overdrive

Players who have defeated multiple monsters, such as Cthun, Magtheridon, Kaelthas Sunstrider, Illidan, Malygos, Yogg Saron, Lich King Arthas, Al'Akir, Ragnaros, Deathwing, Lei Shen, August Celestials, Garrosh Hellscream, Archimonde, Gul'dan, Avatar of Sargeras, Kil'Jaeden, Agrammar, Argus, G'huun, Azshara and Nzoth: will be:
- Held off by Nathanos.
- Not alone, not one on one, but in a raid group.
- Eventually theyll be stunned and hell run away. The whole entire group of assassins.
Even if you can argue that:
- Yogg/Cthun werent at full power. Agrammar wasnt himself, Argus wasnt normal. Nzoth was playing us. What you gonna say about Archimonde and Kiljaeden. You think they were pulling their punches? Not wanting to fight? Playing the "you just wait for my trap card" card?


Heck try this on for size.
If you got a raid group together and went into Org pre pre patch you could kill Sylvanas. You could kill Garrosh! Freaking Garrosh Hellscream. Hotly contested as the best warchief in every timeline of the horde and one of the most bad ass warrior. You could kill him, and in a raid bring him out in chains. Yet Nathanos Self Insert Danuser can outpace even him and a team of individuals that took down Archi freaking Monde.

Obviously there is hate. Because him becoming a world boss, especially one that gets away, is just mister narrative director pulling the strings.

I'm seeing a lot of hate for the character, but I don't really understand it.

Some say he's grown to powerful for no reason. How has he grown in power since his inception as a world boss in Vanilla WoW? He got a pretty new face, but I don't really see any power growth.

Some say his character depth is too shallow. I think he's the perfect henchman. He's not a main character, so why would they put more emphasis than needed on him? He is Jorah Mormont (Simp, great fighter, snarky asshole to anyone but his lady). But this is just my opinion. Story writing, I don't think he has done anything out of character.

He's a self insert. Well so is Thrall, and most people loved him from WC3 up until he kill stealed. That and how much is Nathanos really like Steve, I doubt very much at all. And aren't these tweets fairly new? Today is the first time I'm even hearing about this......seems like you really had to dig for something outside of the game to justify your distaste for a character.

Nathanos came into the spotlight when Sylvanas was elevated. He is an important part of her character, and these two are scheming together so it makes sense for him to be a bit more involved. Much in the way Saurfang got more attention because he was the opposing force.

As for his fight with Tyrande: He had the aide of two val'kyr AND Azeroth's champion and the new night elf dark rangers. Do I think he could/should stand toe to toe with her? hell no. But i think they did it from a gameplay point of view. Can't have him dip out just as soon as he saw her. Had to get the valk to die, and the interaction with the new night elf dark rangers. He fucked off when he knew he was losing.
