look at these teams, Man city (fifa fair play breakers) Barcelona (being bankrupt) Juventus (match fixing) most of these teams are bastards. Arsenal havent finished higher than 5th in the last 5 seasons?

In the UK we watch teams in the Championship ruin themselves financially to get into the prem, with these 5 places and the HUGE money at stake you will see clubs commit financial suicide to get an invite. its bad for the game.
I mean can these teams get invitation? Whole point of this tournament is every match needs to feel like a "CL league knockout match" and when you give fixed invitations to teams like Arsenal (current number 9) who else from the PL are you going to invite? PL already has 6 (from what I read) teams that are participating and any more would mean that some of the current teams would need to be kicked out (which I don't see happening).

I have so much questions regarding this but to keep it simpel. Your excluding so many teams that I have my doubts that those that are getting excluded will accept this kind of tournament, to be more specific teams from Italy, France and Germany who don't have a traditional top 3 but who's number 1 has been dominating the league for years now.

Threw away my kit, scarves, cancelled my club membership. Liverpool FC is dead to me. Even if they came crawling back this shit is just unforgiveable.

no matter the complaints the only way to oppose this is the same way you oppose all capital. solidarity. imagine fans blocking the team bus from getting to the stadium or breaking into the ground the night before a match and ruining the pitch. I used to break into fulhams ground when i was a kid and play on the pitch, good times.

Let's hope not. Literally shaking right now at the thought of that commercialisation rubbish infecting my Barclay's Premier League presented by Emirates.

Every pundit who's decrying the European Super League will be gagging to cover the games if/when this happens. Every journalist trying to 'stick up for the fans' will be pleading for access to clubs in order to keep their careers going. A large number of fans will still be going bonkers for tickets.

Nothing is going to fundamentally change, because the system is long broken. Saying 'greedy bastards' at a time when players are demanding £300k+ a week for transferring to clubs in a pandemic environment. Some of them haven't even achieved anything in their young careers.

Yes, if this goes through it will be a massive hammer blow to the very concept of 'work hard and get rewarded' in football, but that ship kinda sailed a long time ago. This ESL is no different to the NFL or the IPL or any 'franchise' driven sport. Is it a shit move? Sure. But damage is done.

If all the associations really cared about the sanctity of the sport and all that, they would've fought harder to protect clubs through the years. Whether it was when Sky made the Premier League the 'pinnacle' or when Jack Walker made it okay to just sugar daddy a club towards the title.

The guardrails were breached ages ago.

Newsflash: Thats been going on for several decades already. Especially since the early 90s in the premier league.

This super league is, sadly, a natural next step for these clubs. Theres not enough money in domestic league/cups. The future for these clubs(read: the owners) lies somewhere else.

In the end, its all about money and growth. Not growth for the clubs sake, but growth in capital.

yep, sums it up. This is about greed, but thats been the case for a long time. Leicester won the league few years ago, but we can call that a freak accident. Fact is, the top teams are grabbing more and more power. UEFA/FIFA is corrupt and spends the money however they want, they are upset cause someone else does what they want to do. The strongest teams will only grow and get stronger.

Maybe domestic leagues are better off without them?

This super league wont flop as these teams have global reach. People will watch it, people will attend the games.

The owner of Leicester City is worth $3.5bn. They're an outlier in as much as they weren't part of the big dogs of old.

But they're just another club benefiting from outside investment. The media created their identity of 'underdog' etc etc.

Point is, this is nothing new. FIFA/UEFA/FA etc are just whinging because it means yet another rights negotiation for the matches. Money.

real Madrid vs Barcelona in Dubai this is how it goes.

The problem is football did have an element of meritocracy to it, with promotions and relegation. If you play shit you don't get champions league, if you play well you do.

by gating it to a system that doesn't have that and plus all the extra money they will get, how can you compete with that in the domestic league. Man united with a starting 11 worth a billion vs Norwich. This is a bunch of greedy fucking americans.

Used to 30+ years ago. The minute you had Sky and other broadcasters realise how much of a money spinner the sport is, brands followed suit.

West Ham will fight for fourth this year. Whoopi fucking do. They'll lose their best players next year. It's the same story.

Journalists are trying to deify Bayern Munich as some honourable club. Man, every time any other German club comes close to them...they just buy their best players from them and the competition reverts to being a monopoly. Leipzig are somewhat competing, but they're owned by Red Bull.

There is no meritocracy anymore. Money talks. Money wins. Jamie Carragher has cracked me up. Millionaire TV celebrity decrying corporate greed, all whilst being a featured writer for the Tory Party's propaganda newspaper, the Daily Telegraph. You couldn't make this shit up.

Fair point, but they are still considered "small" in the grand scheme of things. When a club of that worth is considered a underdog and always runs the risk of loosing players to bigger clubs, its telling.

I think to many people, for to long time, have ignored the writing on the wall.

Look at the ownership of City, Arsenal, United, LFC, Chelsea and other clubs. Its oligarchs, big finance men that stops at nothing to make money, arab oil money coming from bad regimes and so much more. The football people got to know and love is not controlled bu us or the gov. Its controlled by private financial moneymen.

To them, football is a commoditiy turned into a product to sell. The marked is global. LFC dont belong to Liverpool anymore. Manchester United dont belong to Manchester anymore. They are global and they can do whatever they want to seek what they always seek in the society we live in - maximum profit, however it might be.

I agree. The pundits and so called "experts" are blasting this scheme, while spending majority of theyre time dipping into this on the regular. Broadcasters spend 95% of theyre time and effort on these very same teams, ignoring the rest. Most of the money goes to the big clubs already, most of the coverage goes to these clubs too.

I dont support this super league, but I understand why its coming. Its a natural next step with how european football has evolved.

Those very same pundits will cover this league when it does start.

Clubs stopped belonging to fans a long time ago. Fans were just happy to ignore things whilst their teams were successful, and this will be no different. There will be the usual outrage in order to try and claim the early moral high ground, but this will have no real impact on the turnstiles.

The games will just evolve into tourist attractions and 'events'. More so now that there will be no 'small games'. Make no mistake, this is going to ramrod sports-centric local economies. But to try and pretend like the sport and the local economics will not evolve past this is naive [not you].

I see the European Super League kinda like Skynet in the Terminator franchise. You can keep delaying 'Judgment Day', but it will happen.

The local and trustworthy supporter that goes on every match and has season tickets is not the ones spending most money on the club. They might have a 10+ year old jersey and dont buy merch every match(obviously). Its ticket price+ food and drinks, thats about it. When it comes to tourists or those who are there for pure entertaintment without any local connection or strong identity feeling to the club(s), its different. Its tickets, food+drinks, jersey/merchs, guided tours at stadium and much more. With new stadiums being buildt as a total experience(see Tottenhams new stadium), these owners dont want the "old farts" that has followed the club theyre whole life. The money is not coming from them.

This league will, sadly, be a success. Atleast financially. People will pay for this and people will travel out and see them. Commercialication is about turning something into a product/Brand and sell it. This is how they can sell it more effective while raking in more money. PL, League cup, FA cup and CL/EL is not enough.

Apparently Jose got sacked because he refused to take the team to training this morning in protest against the Super League. What a man

Coinsidence or perfect timing? Announce that you are joining a controversial super league on sunday, announce that you are firing the manager on monday.

Imagine if Mourinho goes out and says he got fired cause he spoke against joining the super league. That would be hilarious.

Bingo. It's sports tourism that is going to be in the ascendancy. Nike or Western Union or Chevrolet don't give a toss about Swansea or Norwich.

They want maximum brand exposure. The clubs want maximum brand exposure. The players want maximum brand exposure.

i saw the press release that refers to local fans as 'legacy fans' lmao.

blockade the stadiums! occupy the pitch!

hopefully this does shake up fifa who are grossly corrupt. Look at the slaves in Qatar, or the killers who own our clubs. Fuck them all really.

It wont. FIFA relies on these players. They cant refuse these players to take part in WC 2022. imagine the outrage from Qatar. They gotta deliver whats promised. Also, they would lose out on so much money, they cant take that risk.

The only hope football has is if the grassroot and football fans revolt over this and refuse to give up until its stopped. If not, things will go as planned for these clubs.
