I disagree, we get told ingame again and again how he is a monster, we know he is evil mc baddy, due to his absolutely generic one liners and he likes to torture things, the Jailer honestly reminds me of that stupid demon in Alleria's and turalyons short story, who promised to forge them into a necklace of eternal torment.

While I'll give that some of his direct acts are lacking we do see him toss bain into a torture river after having his people shank him with evil soul magic and we see him basically kick the runecarver while he's down after saying he's the one who shattered his mind/soul. And we also seem him MC anduin into his personal attack gopher.

I mean honestly unless you're looking for some kind of torture porn we've seen plenty to know he's a dick that doesn't have any issues forcing others to do his dickish things. The real issue is with him being locked up in the Maw they didn't go a good enough job with quests in the maw to make him feel like a threat and all the real impact he's had has been through agents outside the maw. Which makes sense given the whole point is he's sealed there if not a tad underwhelming.

I just don't think the issues with his characterization ultimately come from the lac of us directly seeing him torturing anything. They've ultimately been far too coy about what his ultimate plan is and the reason he was banished other than just ooooooh secret knowledge and it maybe has something to do with never before mentioned first ones and relied too much on the he wants to destroy Azeroth and hey I keep all my stuff on Azeroth attachment.

No idea why anyone is surprised Sylvanas cares about Nathanos. Duh. No shit. She says it everywhere. Her general disposition about people is often apathy, but it has always been very clear she loves him. Or whatever aspect of love she is capable of, she feels for him.

Further, it was never explained what their last exchange meant. They said something about, when the time comes there can be no hesitation - until we meet again, some shit. So there was obviously a plan to reconvene at some point and they haven't. Obviously the story is told from the POV that people aren't going back and forth from Shadowlands and Azeroth like the players are. Her expectation was likely that he was still "alive" - and if he is dead, they would've met by now unless he was specifically hidden. That should not be so controversial as it seems to be.

In the book before Shadowlands, their last interaction is Sylvannas discarding him as a broken tool. He acts like a puppy saying "I'll wait for you." But it's clear she has no interest in coming to retrieve him.

It's an easy to miss but very important detail that Tyrande is trying to kill herself and Sylvanas there at the end.

"Elune, it is time". Followed by Darnassian words that translate to "My Life for Hers". She's not trying to strangle Sylvanas there. She intends to unleash the deadly power of the Night Warrior to destroy the both of them. Only to have Elune's power fade.

We can speculate why. She could have used it up, as Sylvanas seems to conclude. Or more likely, Elune didn't want her to die. She's gone through great lengths to protect Tyrande's life in the past. Either way, Tyrande dominated this fight, and would have one. It's only because Tyrande's suicide failed, that Sylvanas survived.

Well, she did manage to break Sylvanas "ENOUGH" moment, even if only for a short while. That's more than I expected, remembering how Sylvanas previous two fights were completely one sided. I mean, no one really thought she'll do anything more impactful, right?

I imagine we won't be so lucky in the raid proper and will have to witness some sort of idiotic speech while being unable to act for 30 seconds.

She later talks through tyrande and tells her of a plan for the night elf souls, what this means is anyone's guess, but one thing is sure, elunes help is quite shitty.
