Until the Wolf Warrior dominates at the global box office, I'm not buying any "China rolling US culture" takes.

I wonder how this policy will blue screen Very Online Tankies.

Online Tankies: "Hail our heroes on Twitch and Youtube!"
CCP: "Gaming and Streaming are not real work."
    Online Tankies: ???

Which ties into the Onlyfans debate and people not remember that Marx/Lenin/Mao did not consider sex-work to be real work. The problems of when Authoritarians get to define what "work" is.

Yes I take class struggles seriously. I also believe that tool grinding is indeed real work.

For children and only applies to online games*

Somehow leaving out the most important part of the title, even the article you linked does not do this.

Children should not work anyway, so what kind of take is this even?

How would this even be enforced?

I should have the right to waste my youth on online video games! Which is exactly what happened...

China controls the internet there with forced government ID logins. This will just force chinese kids to play single player offline games I guess? No more Diablo Immortal I guess. RIP Blizzard's business strategy.

The US can get people to even wear a mask, how would it enforce this?

Hell all you have to do is say 'China does this what do you think' an the crane rattles come out of woodwork complaining about the youth and socialism or some nonsense.

And ruin their social credit core? Or risk them getting fines/gulag for undermining the system?
You are welcome, Metzen. I hope you won't fuck up my underground expansion idea.

    blizz business strategy is fine.

kids dont have money. it's adult workers who have nothing to do besides play mobile games on their train commute to work that have money.

This is why China doesn't innovate very much. The CCP micro-manages people's lives so they don't have the freedom to do what they want.

Nobody has the right to control another person's game playing.

Xi is pure traditionalist in his thinking. He wants a nation of soldiers and baby makers to overpower the US and he thinks he can get there by promoting old fashioned manufacturing industries and getting rid of anything that keeps kids away from industries that promote that vision.

I'm just laughing at the video game companies that bet their business models on China. It won't just be video games they crack down on either. There will be more.

Yeahhh nobody is going to be sent to gulag over that, they do that parents ID plenty as is.

Many will just use other identities and it's really a difficult loophole to close.

A huge amount of game players there are adults who do it on their way to or off work, which sometimes can take hours.

The issue isn't just this one particular policy. It's the direction they are going. They won't just end the crackdown here. They'll keep going.

Innovation is done by adults, not kids playing online games.

China's gaming market is currently growing a lot with games like Genshin impact, they are not going after the adults. China fully understands how much money they will also need to keep up with the US.

meh it's fine. in general the chinese government has wide support with the population because they have seen their income increase massively within their lifetimes. but at some point that will cap out and the large middle class will start demanding stuff, only so much even an authoritarian government can do against that while also keeping economic growth going.

for the rest it's just different flavors of east vs west. life in the lower class can be pretty shit no matter where you live, government controls a lot of your life if you are on welfare in the west too.

and where china tends to limit things for public health, the west tends to do things like have manufacturers put money in addiction/treatment funds, which honestly both have their pros and cons. it's just the degree of where society draws the line in your freedom to make stupid choices.
