Let's all enhance our calm, please. Keep discussion respectful even if you're agreeing or unhappy. Thanks y'all.
The video you presented was released a week before the bug fixes. That's why I dismissed it, slick.
Things that need changing: Boltes are insanely OP and are the new hovercraft, AA needs a damage buff, SMGs still need work, revert the LMG recoil and add infantry only mode.

Just don't reply to me. Please. If you can help it.
Played it a bit, wasn't particularly impressed (or particularly unimpressed - it's just a run of the mill meh game) and went back to BF2
Well I think I'm finally going to toss Battlefield in with the same bin that Mass Effect, World of Warcraft and many other games are in. The dead studios creating the same IP in name alone.
I don't foresee this game ever becoming what I think a Battlefield game is no matter how many fixes. That is my opinion but it just doesn't have the feel. I think 2042 is a game that came from something else, like overwatch. The specialists feel out of place and they are too quirky personality wise feel "Battlefield" I feel like they were creating something and it fell apart so they slapped together Battlefield 2042.
Balance wise I just absolutely do...not...understand how SO MUCH of this game is so imbalanced and poorly put together. I mean I can understand weapons overperforming but there is so much insanely overperforming and likewise downright pointless weapons. What place do shotguns have in 2042? Yes you CAN use them, you CAN get kills with them...but why?
There is no teamplay in this game, no voicecomms (which they have now come out and called "legacy" content) can't play with more than 4 other friends in a 128 player match, there are almost no assists in this game aside from kills and spotting. That transport you just used up all of your rockets trying to taking down, managing to disable one part for 10 points. Congratulations, your teamate threw a magic tracking grenade and did 8% of the damage and got 600 points for 10 kills and destruction, you get 10 points and 0 assists. Did you spend all match using your SOFLAM to laser designate targets ending with every enemy vehicle getting destroyed? Congratulations, here's 0 points and 0 assists.
Those amazing huge maps where jets bounce off buildings and mountains with no collision because they apparently didn't have the resources to apply collision to a copy pasted structure
How does this go through QA? Or is it on purpose? Is it to limit the point sources you get so they can sell a boost down the road, except they haven't added it to the store because that would throw a container ship of fuel on the fire...yet? A lot of the issues I feel a few people testing could have figured out so it feels terrible on purpose. It's not even in depth uncommon things.
It's an unfinished game, QA was probably done properly but no time to fix anything.
But don't worry "the next patch will fix it!"
just kidding, they will spent the next 6 months to bring this game to "gold-status", but people will pay for another battlepass with quirky cosmetics and a DLC in the meantime.
I mean... it's not like they don't know all these things. Some of these issues are from ~2011 and have been "fixed" (that means actually implemented) several times already.
Assists for certain actions being one of those for example.

Despite enjoying it, most of the criticisms are super valid. A lot of shit that was once standard (full scoreboard, some kind of voice/text coms or squad guidance) or that had mechanics around them (like a more robust spotting/assist system) is somehow missing in the game. For some of the steps forward (IMO I really like the 'open' class system and the operators design-wise, even if they tonally feel like they're in a different game) it feels like they took a great many steps backwords. Many of which don't seem to serve any purpose.
Like, it's great to look at. It has the usual bonkers BF nonsense. It's worked without serious bugs for me so far (though the compilations are hilarious). But it doesn't really feel like a AAA game developed by a premier studio along with multiple support studios. The polish is there in some areas, but it feels a lot more like we're essentially playing a fairly good beta for the game.
I'm just happy jumping in to the same few breakthrough maps and play those. Should probably mess around a bit more on Portal too, but honestly the heavy action of breakthrough is where the game is best for me. Where most of the concerns and issues are a bit less of an issue as a casual player since I'm just enjoying the nonstop firefights.
I feel like many of the un battlefield like changes has at-least a secondary function if not primary to mask cheaters (which exist and has since even beta despite the anti cheat thing) which had a massive negative impact on battlefield 5. No scoreboard so you can't see if someone is suspiciously raking up 100-0 kills. Cheat like special abilities that lets you wall-hack and mobility that could mask something like teleportation hacks etc.
I'm extremely skeptical it has anything to do with that at all, especially since cheaters still seem fairly obvious (squad with a questionably high score, you're probably getting killed by them repeatedly etc.) It seems more designed towards their efforts to combat toxicity (like no all-chat) - can't trash talk baddies who have .002/1 KDA if you don't know what their KDA is.
I've only encountered two obvious cheaters in the game so far, surprisingly. 1 was in that Squad Fiesta VIP mode where the guy was snapping to people and another one was, oddly enough, completely invisible. Wasn't showing up on radar and was just downing folks at a flag. Luckily it was just that and not auto aim.
Just don't reply to me. Please. If you can help it.
Yeah, I've run into one potential cheater but that's it. I assume I'm just lucky since I've been seeing plenty of reports. Just mostly saying that I don't think the changes to scoreboard etc. have anything to do with some kind of attempt to "hide" cheaters in some way. They're always going to be obvious, and folks chime up in team chat when they suspect someone so it's not like it goes unnoticed.

Oh man, apparently going to your operator screen while there are smokes out in-game...just deletes the smokes. Random ass bug, this is the kind of thing that I can see slipping through the cracks since it's not something that folks would normally do.
I'm still enjoying myself and all, but as more and more issues like this pop up it just makes me wonder what the hell went on during development. Like, for having DICE work on this for at least a few years + multiple support studios, and it not even having the expensive/time consuming campaign, everything feels so...mid-beta. I really hope we do get some kinda deep dive into development from one of the investigative journalists who actually do this shit in gaming. In a lot of ways IMO the game is a big improvement for the series, but at the same time they've taken so many seemingly pointless and inexplicable steps backwards.
Revert the LMG recoil? Is it more erratic or more controllable now (I don't have a comparison because I was using LCMG before patch, but stopped using it for a while and now I switched to the PKP)?
My thoughts:
- SMG should excel at close range (i.e. < 60 meters) due to their very low recoil
- AR's should excel at 40 - 120 meters, but should win in a fight vs an SMG when the person with the AR has a few opening shots advantage
- LMG's should be most effective at 80 - 160 meters, but they should also be capable of pulling off wins in close-combat if you get the drop and ADS, while still having some level of reduced firepower beyond 160 meters (up to say 220 meters)
- Sniper rifles shouldn't be super-effective below 140 meters if the person has moved within the last 1.5 seconds, or in extremely close range (e.g. 5 meters), but should remain very effective beyond 140 meters
Essentially, give each weapon a segment where it excels, but make sure that it isn't winning against other weapons in an equal fight. In a fight that's 10 meters or less, no weapon should be missing even if hip-firing, and the firepower and rounds per minute of weapons should be the deciding factors.
Bolte's are definitely a bit excessive, but I'd also say that the splash damage from all vehicles with anything beyond minigun-size rounds is over the top. Being killed through a solid metal shipping container because they fired 10 meters from your position 4 times is just silly. The 20mm rounds on the Nightbird got significantly nerfed to reduce their splash area to be about 1-1.5 meters and the damage of them requires a lot more shots now than it did before the patch. It feels a little bit awkward as a pilot, but it also feels reasonable considering that it requires specific soldier loadouts to take down aircraft effectively.
I also strongly agree that an official infantry-only mode would be very welcome, but some of the maps need changing for that to be viable. Any map which has cap points on top of towers is currently nearly impossible to win as attacker in breakthrough, and infantry-only mode wouldn't help that as you could have 8 people at each entrance, and that still gives you enough to cover 8 entrances (more than any tower roof area actually has from what I can tell). I do think some metro-style maps would be nice additions.
The hitboxes really need fixing though. Being killed by bullets 500 ms after I've run round a corner is unacceptable. Half a second isn't a long time in the grand scheme of things, but in combat it's the difference between life and death. I wish I could say it was a rare occurrence, but I had it happen 7 times in 3 matches earlier tonight, and it's happened a lot of times since release.
I can understand if I've been shot through light-cover light a chain fence or those cardboard boxes, but having it happen through the buildings on Hourglass or through shipping containers is just stupid. If I sink 30 rounds into someone, they should be dead or very close to dying. Instead, I often see shots just not registering even in those rare situations where I've landed shots perfectly.
Then again, we've seen this exact issue happen with BF3 (less so with BF4), BF1, and BF5, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's never fixed. DICE have all the technology in the world in their engine, but they've lost accuracy on the core mechanics that make an FPS.
The bug with being unable to change your loadout still exists and is incredible frustrating. If I need to switch to AP rounds, I don't wanna be presented with the '1 - 2 - 3 - 4' weapon dial but no attachment options. It seems like the UI indicating your HP and ammo doesn't update correctly when this happens either, so it's likely some thread that links the UI with game state isn't syncing and often doesn't seem to correct itself.
I'd also love to know why Sundance can fly into the ground face first and survive using her wingsuit, but if she dismounts from 2 meters, she dies to fall damage.
Also had a very weird issue where I selected a vehicle at the start of the game, it didn't deploy it but put it on cooldown, and said it was 'in play' for the rest of the round.

Meh, I haven't put more than 10 hours into a BF game since 2142. They're all just iterations of BF2 that look prettier. Well except BF1. There's nothing interesting ever added to these games that made 3 more worthwhile than 2 and 4 more than 3. They have gimmicks now.
2142 was the most originality the game has had in 20 years.

Obvious cheaters are just the tip of an iceberg, the kind that put on 10x damage and always 100% aimbot at an enemy then just hold down fire button on a lmg in say bf 1 or 5. But more subtle 'good' cheaters are more difficult to detect now most cheaters you pretty much had to first person spectate for a while to know they were actually cheating (again something not possible anymore afaik) and weren't just good/lucky or some lag fuckery. You can disagree if it's intentional or not but cheating was a massive problem in bf5 and probably 1 as well though I didn't play it and Dice/EA did virtually nothing about it, even extremely obvious cheaters could play for weeks or months before getting banned, but the fact is that a lot of the changes made from BF5 has been a positive for cheaters to stay undetected.
Slapping a useless anti cheat on the game (as hacks existed day one in beta even) while simultaneously making it vastly more difficult to detect/confirm hacking just seems like Dice surrendering to the problem to me.
And chat isn't reliable, I've been called a cheater and I'm not even particularly good.
Man...for all the jank I'm still having a blast. Did a breakthrough that took almost an hour last night. Took the first point, almost lost at the second and took it in overtime (defending team was cheesing with long-range tanks blasting choke points), and ended up taking the last two points and winning a rare breakthrough map.
I can't claim I did that much (I did alright), but it was grand to just stop and enjoy the chaos at a few times. It was the docks map at night, so fantastic visuals of tracer fire from helicopters and vehicles, rockets flying everywhere, explosions left and right...it's the kind of madness and gloriously beautiful chaos that I enjoy so much.
Does anyone else notice the AK24 just...stops firing, like skips rounds? I thought it was my mouse but I don't think it is. I never noticed it on any other weapon but I started using the AK once they fixed the Assault Rifles. I have it on full auto and Ill just hold the trigger down when someone is close range and if there is a lot going on around me my gun will just stop, then start firing again. It's gotten me killed quite a few times. Not as much as people just being immune to bullets but it's just as frustrating.

1) Load the amount of weight I would deadlift onto the bench
2) Unrack
3) Crank out 15 reps
4) Be ashamed of constantly skipping leg day
