As someone who's lived in Miami for a long, long time we have the massive brunt of Venezuelan immigrants under years of Maduro. Nothing wrong with that of course. Miami is the portal to Latin America after all. But you would be very ignorant to not realize that the demographics of Miami have been massively altered by the Venezuelan refugee crisis. I wouldn't be surprised if they match Cuban Americans in South Florida at this point.

Looking at the talking points coming out, seems we were both right about the optics they were trying to create.

So attorney lays out pretty damning evidence and of violation of laws.

    1. Gave them little to no information or support to of when the immigrants arrived.

    2. They were giving instruction to change their address with USCIS when relocated. So this is BIG. Basically, USCIS has nothing to do with change of address. Thus if migrants changed their address as instructed, they would be in violation for not informing on their change with the Proper Authorities. Lawyer claimed this is interference with Federal Immigration policy.

    3. Another BIG one. Supposedly DHS agents gave them falsified addresses on migrants paper work. Giving addresses of random homeless shelters from all over the U.S. So now if a migrant would need to check in with at the place of the fake address. The lawyer gave the example of migrant with address in Tacoma, Washington would now need to check in while of course being flown to Massachusetts.

If you all remember this is what Trump tried to lie about that many migrants just wouldn't check in and be in violation. This was untrue, but here of course they would actually create the violation.

So two of those three seem pretty bad. No surprise that DHS agents are pieces of crap. Surprised it wasn't ICE and might be ICE, since it is DHS for falsifying documents. We will see if any of this is true.

The amount of mental gymnastics you’ve got to go thru to condemn the governors of Texas and Florida while excusing Biden for functionally doing the exact same thing is pretty impressive. 10/10. Gold Star.

    In what frickin' world?

DeSantis' jurisdiction ends at the borders of Florida. Once his law enforcement leave those borders, they no longer have any legal authority, and are essentially just private citizens, and thus held to the same standards as any other citizen. In this case, transporting migrants may be legal for Florida authorities within Florida, but once they leave those borders, without some pre-arranged agreement that grants interstate authority, their actions are legally definable as both kidnapping and human trafficking across State lines. The lack of legal authority is exactly what makes that difference. It's why it's legal for border officials in Texas to transport migrants from the border to a facility to process them, whereas it's a crime for a coyote to do the same thing. That's the difference; the lack of legal jurisdiction/authority.

    That's the entire point, here.

If DeSantis had shipped migrants to a city in Florida, this wouldn't be a story. That's not what he did.

Now, Biden and federal authorities in general? They have jurisdiction throughout the USA, so this lack of authority/jurisdiction never comes up. Not understanding that fundamental concept is the entire basis for your false equivalence.

If Biden tried shipping migrants and dumping them in Calgary or Montreal, then you'd have a valid comparison, and we'd be pointing out that Canadian authorities absolutely could arrest whoever was transporting those migrants illegally once they crossed into Canadian jurisdiction. But that's not happening.

The amount of willful ignorance you have to engage in to pretend they're even remotely the same is far more impressive. Beyond what Endus explained, the other important factor is that Biden actually coordinated with people on both ends, and did so with the full knowledge, consent, and understanding of the people being transported. DeSantis rounded up a bunch of people, flat-out LIED about where they were going and what they would find there, then dumped them across the country and said "hey, guess what, these people are your problem now, deal with it." Not to mention how blatantly he did it for political points, given he sent along A FUCKING VIDEOGRAPHER FOR FOX NEWS.

Gymnastics really aren't necessary, just simple reading comprehension, which obviously is difficult for a large portion of the US electorate.

I am being 100% serious here...do y'all just take something you hear from X pundit on TV/Youtube and run with it?

You want to know the key difference...Biden has JURISTICTION because he the executive of the FEDERAL branch of government of which has JURISTICITION in moving/detaining/processing asylum seekers.

Governors have STATE jurisdiction which does not include ASYLUM/MIGRANTS as that is a federal power. Anytime a state makes a law that deals with migrants its basically moot because of the supremacy clause.

well sending them to an island that does not have a system in place to help them is really shitty. He is just using humans as a tool to advance his carrer.

    very sad indeed.

btw it's the rich who are also funding all the help they get in the city.

I wonder if you actually think it's the exact same thing. Do you look at those, spend more than 5 seconds to think about it and come to the conclusion: yeah exactly the same? Really?

Migrants arrive in California from Texas but don't know who paid for plane tickets

A Northern California advocacy group said it is helping eight migrants from Venezuela who arrived in Sacramento on two separate flights.

Three men, aged 23 and one in his 40s, said they walked barefoot from the Sacramento International Airport to the Catholic Charities administrative offices downtown. They said it was an address on their paperwork, 1107 9th St., the administrative offices for Catholic Charities.

From there, they ended up at the Sacramento Food Bank, and the food bank then called NorCal Resist.

"I picked them up and got them to the grocery store. We got them a hotel. They walked from the Sacramento airport to the Sacramento Food Bank with no shoes," said Goya Gutierrez, a volunteer with NorCal Resist.

One man who asked not to be identified said they couldn't choose where they were going. He said the documents said California.

Gutierrez said the paperwork is from the Department of Homeland Security, which scheduled a hearing for later this month for the men to report to U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement.

"ICE doesn't do that; they don't just put people on planes because they're not going to sponsor them," Gutierrez said. "I have no idea who actually sponsored them."

The man said they left Venezuela 45 days ago and ended up at the Migrant Resource Center in San Antonio, Texas.

He said someone gave them free plane tickets on a commercial flight to Sacramento. The center is run by the city of San Antonio and doesn't pay for migrants' travel to other cities.

"They were really confused. Two of them said they wanted to go to Utah and one wanted to go to Manhattan and somehow they ended up in Sacramento," Gutierrez said.

The men said they are in the United States to find work, not for a vacation. They said it is difficult to find job opportunities in Venezuela and need to support their families.

"They were put on a plane to Sacramento where they don't know anybody. They don't have any family here," Gutierrez said.

The Migrant Resource Center is looking into the men's claims. The office of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said his state is busing migrants to Washington, D.C., Chicago and New York.

The office of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis is looking into if they provided the plane tickets.

At least California is used to dealing with this kind of stuffs.

Show me where Biden is actively trafficking people while also telling them that there would be jobs and homes for them to go to. Show me where Biden didn't get permission from the state and local governments to send people.

Since you made the claim, bring the proof.

EDIT: I keep stating that State funding should be cut off completely for any state legislature that allows this to happen.

This is one of the most disgusting, hateful, evil things I've seen in a while now. Not only do they blatantly lie to people who have struggled and suffered for weeks or months to try and get to somewhere safe where they can live a half-way decent life, pretending there will be housing and jobs waiting for them in a community that knows they're coming (they didn't), but they register the mailing addresses of the migrants in places all over the country, making it impossible for them to get to the ICE offices in those areas to avoid deportation.

The people behind this need to be arrested. They need to be arrested and they need to go to fucking prison for a long time. This is NOT okay, and anyone who thinks this is a "win" is either completely deluded, or a big fan of inflicting cruelty and suffering on people who don't deserve it.

Massachusetts seeks human trafficking probe targeting Florida Gov. DeSantis over migrants

Authorities in Massachusetts said Sunday that they have requested a federal human trafficking probe after Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis boasted of sending about 50 Venezuelan migrants to Martha's Vineyard to shine a national spotlight on immigration issues.

"We are requesting that the Department of Justice open an investigation to hold DeSantis and others accountable for these inhumane acts," state Rep. Dylan Fernandes tweeted Sunday. "Not only is it morally criminal, there are legal implications around fraud, kidnapping, deprivation of liberty, and human trafficking."

Fernandes said he had spoken with Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Rachel Rollins and was "grateful to hear she is pushing for a response from the DOJ."

"There is nothing tough about using women and children and families as your political tools," Fernandes said on MSNBC. "Ron DeSantis is a coward."

Good job on outing yourself as either reading the NY Post or, worse, parroting the opinions of those who do - because that's where this "Biden did the same thing" nonsense started.

I keep seeing this goddamned article, and I can't find any reasonable, non NY Post article that confirms it.

Apparently this was the "brochure" that Florida provided to all the migrants it trafficked to Martha's Vineyards.

It all seems wonderful!...if Massachusetts was actually told about these incoming migrants so they could have prepared for them and all.

Republicans would deport anyone requesting asylum who isn't white. Especially anyone named Jesus, which is not a super uncommon name amongst many asylum seekers making the long, dangerous trip because they have no other options.
