To me those are the same kind of thing; something that gets left behind/ turns obsolete in the next patch or expansion that are largely identical (grinding for gear is always the same, it's just different gear you're grinding for)

I don't necessarily mind it, because as long as there's something fun to be doing at the time I don't necessarily feel like having the old stuff become obsolete is inherently bad.

That bit when FF prelude kicks in is gold.

Lets hope the bosses in their have voice overs like the ones in Monastery.
I honestly can't remember - does the theme music play during boss fights, or will it switch to something else, or even worse, back to the generic boss battle music?

Down to just LTW and WVR to level and thank god you can spend the fate stones on skins. Farming that shit is suffering. I killed 35 green gliders and got two glider skins.

IT TAKES FOUR TO MAKE ONE PIECE OF LEATHER.

If there is a single thing i will give WoW over FFXIV its leather not being rarer than fucking elite rare mob spawns.

Grind mats in general are annoying to farm.
Good thing you can let your retainers do the legwork.

    • In each city there is a NPC called the Retainer Vocate who you can talk to to hire retainers. They are located near the market boards. You can customize the look of your retainer just like you would with a player character.
    • You can hire up to 2 retainers by default, but can buy six more retainer slots off of the Mogstation (cash shop).
    • Retainers can be summoned from any Summoning Bell, located near market boards and in inn rooms.
    • Retainers can be used as bank storage, to sell items on the marketboard (auction house), but are most commonly used to farm mats.
    • You can set the retainer's job/class and send them out on missions (called ventures) to get mats, which will level up the retainer, which in turn allows them to go on higher level ventures to farm higher level mats. The retainer can only level up to the level of your job. For example, if you are a level 25 Botanist, your retainer can only level up to 25 as the Botanist class.
    • To send out a retainer on a mission/venture (again, same thing), you need to pay the retainer a currency called a "venture". You can use your Grand Company seals to buy venture tokens.
    • General rule of thumb is that if you are going to be online for another hour, send your retainers off on a Quick Venture (costs 1 venture token, only takes an hour). If you're logging off for the day, send them on the 18 hour long Field/Open Exploration venture. (If the retainer is a gatherer, it's called a Field Exploration. If a combat class, it's called an Open Exploration. Retainers can't be crafters).

For leveling, you shouldn't send them out on quick ventures. You should do the 1hr specific ventures. Quick ventures are random experience, whereas the 1hr specific will be consistent and good for that lvl exp.

Transferred off of Balmung to Brynhildr and moved into a Shirogane apartment. Five hours later and I've yet to assemble anything that looks good.

As I found out, I shot myself in the foot by... moving into a Shirogane apartment. The Shirogane ward sure is nice, but inside the actual apartment, I can't change the red siding. So I have to wall over it with partitions... which I can't put windows on. I haven't finished the Doman Enclave so I don't know if the Fool's Threshold item will even stick to the partitions. When I browse through houses posted online, it seems all of the nice Japanese style homes are in Lavendar Beds. Tried the "make a garden with light shining into house" idea, but I don't think I'll be able to shake off that ugly window (unless I also partition over that and only use light fixtures). Not sure what to do now. Going to experiment more tomorrow. Any ideas?

I gotta say, out of the many things I appreciate about this game, I really find myself loving the simple reward structure. No random bullshit, no TF/WF. You can see the gear sets on the vendors and you can find out what you need to farm to get it. It's deterministic, it's up to you and there's an end point to it, so you can move on to another class. I knew I hated the reward system in retail WoW, but I never realized how much I did. This is sooooo much better! I'll really struggle getting used to the WoW casino when the next expansion comes around...

They don't extend the life cycle of content artificially by randomizing gear progression. You can always get to an okayish level with tomestones.

It's great though! I think it's okay to have an end point for a character, because the game has so much more to offer. It helps when pretty much every single class in the game is awesome and has interesting lore, and actually motivates you to get it geared to. Basically the way I see it with the Warrior of Light concept, the end game are the classes. All classes together make your main, so in a sense they don't need to artificially extend the content by a stupid grind, you already have more than enough to keep you busy, because doing savage with a healer/tank/dps are all completely different experiences.

The way I see it endgame is whatever the hell you want cause you have lots of different choices and nobody is forcing you to do either. Which, again, is great.

To be fair, in WoW you can always get to an okayish level with simply playing the game. I wouldn't grind M+. I didn't do organized Mythic raiding and I still had an above average ilvl and still performed in the 90%+ percentiles, even against mythic geared players for the few fights I did on Mythic.

I'm not a huge fan of gearing in WoW or FF14 to be honest. I hate the concept of being "done" because it ends up making me not want to play. WoW tends to shower you with too much inconsequential loot. I'm not sure I have an example of a game that does loot right (by my standards). Loot is just so irrelevant to me. I'd honestly be alright if it was strictly cosmetic in both games because that's how binary it is.
