Wink A Interesting Point in History

    Hey guys!

So I have to do a enrichment task (enrichment being to add to your University application) which asks me to write a report of at least 5000 or 1000 words with a presentation about a particular interest that I hold dear to myself.

I have always been interested in the past, from ancient human civilisations to present day, in particular, I am enticed by the events during 1066 - 1900, such as the Hundred Year War between England and France, the American war of Independence, the Crusades, the fall of the Aztec Empire and the colonization of the new world and the British occupation of India.

At the moment, too many ideas come to mind, so it would be helpful and also may be fun for yourself to discuss a particular point in history that interests you and why.

    Thank you.

Renaissance for me has to be my favorite time in history since that was the end of the dark ages and new ideas were flourising through out Europe.

its all very interesting how 100 years ago the republicans where followers of science and the democrats were religious leaders and how the roles have been reversed

Cold War or World War II. So many decisions made then and so much interesting nooks and holes to explore that are affecting our world today. Always been my favorite. Renaissance is also great too if you don't like modern things.

The Roman Empire! So interesting because the elite was so well-behaved, but so bloodthirsty and backstabbing at the same time. Psychos!

Think wisely - all that you wrote are quite famous and well known for educated people. I guess people who will read your essay are such. You have three choices here:
write something very controversial about that topic.
write very well as if English is you major ( or that language in which it is due ).
write about something that is not as famous as you mentioned above.

Some ideas: American genocide of Native indians, Falklands conflict, Armenian Genocide, forced starvation of Ukraine by USSR, Kotyn accident, compare Hussein to Khadaffi. Tons of interesting stuff about Latin America.

I know these are not ancients - however very acute and controversial. You can write quite unique paper on these.

you could write about the scottish landowners selling scotland out to the english, or the jacobite rebellions in the 1700's, both very interesting subjects

Europe during the Black Death is a fun time.

Maybe The War of the Roses in England, could be cool.

The murder of Archbishop Thomas Beckett.

    history, too much fun.

Don't go with overused things. Some of the coolest events in history are never talked about.
How about the Spanish-American war? Most people aren't aware it ever happened, but it was a pretty spectacular war.

    Plus Teddy Roosevelt.

Teddy Roosevelt: Coolest leader in history, hands down. I love him (as did my US AP History teacher).

I like all the irony and "back-stabbing", That's not to say I enjoy it, only interested in how, so much of it goes, either unnoticed or unheeded. Like how Mitsubishi used to make the Japanese fighter plane, the Zero. Used in the attack on Pearl Harbor, when America wasn't even apart of the war... Now, even before all of our Americans are dead, that were there, or were alive when it happened. We as Americans buy their automobiles, phones, TVs, engines, ect, ect. Made from the same company, the one that profited in the killing of, (neutral at the time) Americans. Not even a name change!

    .. Irony..

I'm always clueless as to what to think when I see BMWs & Mitsubishis parked at the VFW.

This is a good topic. You can quite easily draw a correlation between that retreat from reason to the predatory economic climate that has in many ways spread across the planet. Those who are willing to allow others to do their thinking for them never lack for opportunities to be taken advantage of in any culture.

The Americas right at the time of European contact. The pre-columbian Americas are so little-understood that I always want to learn more.

My field is Middle Eastern history (although I mostly work in advisement there now). The history of Iran, especially in the 20th century, is incredibly fascinating and easy to follow for a non-historian, because it is punctuated by fairly straightforward but extremely interesting events. For example, you have Teddy Roosevelt's grandson creating a coup against a democratically elected leader and reinstalling the Shah (king). The overthrown leader was Muhammed Mossadegh, a slightly loopy old man prone to weeping and fainting while delivering speeches. It's just an amazing topic.

There is a documentary called "America Before Columbus" which pretty much compares America and Europe at the same time era before the arrival of Columbus which includes foods, animals, land, and some Native Americans. Good show imo, I highly recommend it if you want to learn more.
