    4) picked piplup but shelved it,never liked these starters, so used a buizel as a (starter) instead :P
    5) not played yet but will most probably pick the snake one. worst looking pokemon ever on this version though. (cough Trubbish cough)
Im going to agree with you that the pokemon in this game looks the worst (or atleast have a handful of the ugliest pokemon out their), but when you play the game, you pretty much forget it, its a brilliant game, and the look of the pokemon wont hold you back, after you started

Yeah, I always got a chuckle out of that excuse for not liking the rest of the generations, Voltorbs a Pokeball and Electrodes a Pokeball flipped upside down.
Pidgey and Spearow are based on a Pigeon and a Sparrow. Geodude and it's evolution chain? They're rocks/boulders, how much more boring and unimaginative could you get? And that's just four Pokemon families.

That said I can't say I have a favorite starter I've enjoyed all of them, some less then others but not enough to claim one as my absolute favorite, I've always gone out of my way to collect all of the starters as soon as possible regardless of the generation.

I think thats one of the beautiful things about the first generation, that almost all of the pokemon is something you can relate too, they are more plain, and i kinda like that.
But that said, pokemon wouldnt keep being a succes, if they havnt moved on from that, it would probaly not have been exciting enough to keep drawing people in.

Gen. 4 has the worst Pokemon by far, IMO. I actually love the majority of Gen 5. 4th gen only had a handful of cool ones, the rest were meh or just plain ugly.

Yeah, Gen 5 had some really nice ghost types, and Liligant, and shit I like a lot of them tbh, even Garbodor. 4 overall was... meh.. in every department, mon, story, gameplay. :/

Well, the problem with Gen 4 is that its only about 100 pokemon, and a big amount of them are just evolutions to old pokemon (so not really new), about 30 of those are just babies or evolution, so basicly we got around 70-80 completly new pokemon, counting that, i actualy think a high amount of them are as good as ones in the other generations, tho that might just be me

Im just looking over Gen 5, and i actualy dont think they look that bad now, but when i played the game, i just had a hard time finding a team of 6 pokemon i liked, specialy since i dont really like using/having to many legendaries in my team.

    Gen 1: Squirtle
    Gen 2: Cyndaquil
Gen 3: Mudkip (Come ON! Water/Ground? Awesome!)
Gen 4: ehh... Piplup. I like Piplup okay.
Gen 5: Y'know what? I detest these starters. I took the water type just 'cuz I always have a good water type as fast as possible. That's it. Yuck to all of these... And what's with all the monkies in the game!?

On another note... Stop with the fire/fighting starters, Nintendo! Stop! Something new please! That's three games in a row!

    Charmander
    Cyndaquil
    never played Gen 3
    never played gen 4
    Snivy

Don't like how tepig/his evolutions look, so I went with Snivy. Not a big fan of Oshawatt either.

Since we're on this I guess I'll throw my opinions in. I'll break it down into 4 categories. Starters, Legendaries, Overall Pokemon.

Gen 1: The one that started it all. The starters are probably the best of any gen, except maybe gen 3. The legendaries are pretty meh though. Mewtwo is cool, but overall the 3 birds aren't all that impressive. Gen 1's pokemon are pretty solid, although I think the bug and electric pokemon are very weak. Overall I'd give it 2nd place

Gen 2: Now the pokemon in Gen 2 are pretty much additions of already existing evolutionary chains, but the new additions are pretty F'ing sweet. Feraligatr and Typhlosion are freaking awesome, while Meganium is decent. Gen 2 is home to memorable pokemon like Scizor, Tyranitar, and Houndoom. As for the legendaries the trio in this game are the best yet and the mascots are pretty awesome as well. I'd have to give this one first place.

Gen 3: Gen 3's starters are probably the 2nd most consistent of any starters behind Gen 1. Blaziken, Sceptile, and Swampert are all amazing. The legendaries are ok. The trio kinda look stupid, but Rayquaza, Kyogre, and Groudon are pretty awesome. I don't really have any complaints about any of the pokemon either. They are all pretty solid. I'd give this one 3rd place.

Gen 4: Gen 4's starters are ok. Torterra is my favorite grass starter, but that's about it. I like infernape and empoleon, but they aren't as awesome as the previous 3 generations. I also feel like this gen has the weakest legendaries. I don't really like any of them except for Darkrai (who is fucking awesome). Gen 4 is alot like Gen 2 in that it furthers the evolutionary chain of alot of older pokemon, which is fine, but unlike Gen 2 the new pokemon aren't very memorable, with the exception of Garchomp. Gen 4 gets 5th place for me.

Gen 5: Gen 5 gets alot of flak for being unimaginative, but I think it's pretty solid. The starters are the weakest we've seen though. Tepig is my favorite, but even he isn't that great. The legendaries are where I believe Gen 5 shines though. The trio, and the roamers are very solid, and the mascots are the coolest yet. Overall Gen 5 has its highlights with Zoroark, Krookodile, and Hydregon and the fossil pokemon Carracosta, and Archeops are probably the coolest fossils yet. Not to mention that I usually hate bug pokemon, but the bugs in this gen are really cool, which is good, because I feel like this gen had more bugs than previous gens. Gen 5 gets 4th place.

Just Charmander. I don't have a favourite out of the other generations :<. I only really played them for the actual gameplay, more than the added pokemon.

    Gen 1: Charmander
    Gen 2: Cyndaquil
    Gen 3: Treecko
    Gen 4: Chimchar
    Gen 5: Snivy

Water starters suck because there are always better pokemon that can learn surf; fire is generally the best because its the hardest to obtain.

Gen 4 had the best starters strategically, excluding Speed Boost Blaziken...

  19. #99
    Gen1: Charmander
    Gen2: Cyndaquil
    Gen3: Treecko
    Gen4: Chimchar
Gen5: None. While there were some cool Pokemon in Generation 5, they weren't the starters.
One day I look forward to seeing full grown adults realize that their averse reactions to levity and positive/contemplative expressions of emotion are a cry for therapy.

Charmander, Totodile, Treecko. Anything after that I don't care enough about to pick a favorite.
