DAOC had the BEST player housing. You could get trophy's of most of the biggest raid boss kills and put them in your house. Medusa's stone head, The stinger tail from the big scorpion in ML4 etc. You could put a crafting station in there. It was awesome. Wasn't cheap though.

UO was pretty good too. Esp. funny watching the squatters and looters.

MMOs used to be made with, if you will allow me the indulgence, balls.

I've just had a thought... those five prisms in the goodie bag sent to pcgamer in the article linked in the OP... jewelcrafting profession incoming?

  4. #44
Hope not, unless they find a way to make it interesting and innovative.

I mean whats the point? It' basically just enchanting/runecrafting or whatever version 2. It just creates more pointless gear issues to worry about. After that why not continue until you need 6 assorted enchantments or runes to additions to every single peice of gear until you cant be fucked replacing anything because it's more effort then it's worth.

Seeing as it's Trion and Rift whatever our expectations are they will probably outdo them. Really looking forward to it

That's really cool how they are teasing it.

Does anyone think they might improve some graphical aspects of the game like improving fogginess of distance, and also add better animations? (Casting spell etc...)

That seems... kinda weird. I would not mind but wonder how it will effect itemization if so.

I mean, was RRt2 budgeted against an additional set of stats? Hmm. Seems odd. I suppose it could work in the grander scheme...

My opinion would be more towards accesory(spelling) buffing through some sort of enchant.

Capes/Cloaks are on the PTS in some sort of a backend UI capacity. Check the wardrobe slot (empty checkboxm and you can mouseover it right below your class crystal slot on the main character panel.

I'm actually starting to wonder if this really is an expansion or just some sort of super mega huge and awesome normal patch(es). I mean, of those things hinted at in the package sent to PC Gamer, cloaks, the zones, a raid and a PvP feature with ten new PvP ranks are all on the PTS. The only feature missing is the four souls (soles), which could possibly be the reintegration of the PvP souls that have been revamped and tied into some PvP feature that we haven't heard about yet. As it stands 1.9 is about five weeks away, which is a lifetime to push content as far as Trion are concerned - they do in five weeks what other companies do in five months.

Realistically only the souls and the six zones are making a convincing argument for expansion, and maybe the ten levels. Everything else could be accounted for in 1.9's content, or possibly attributed towards the next patch. I also find it really strange that Trion don't have a separate server for testing expansion content like Blizzard do. Why let it leak all over the PTS? PR maybe, but it still seems a really inefficient way to do things.

    Hmmmmm...

I never thought this news heralded an actual 'expansion' per se.
Trion is the sort of company who releases things this big as regular updates.

Thumbs up New Xpac may be what RIFT needs to keep going

This is pretty interesting but I am very skeptical about most of what the article claims. I played RIFT in beta, during that time I was subbed to WoW and liked it so much that I quit WoW, preordered RIFT and have been playing since headstart in Feb '11. Trion has done a great job in releasing new content and trying its best to listen to player feedback.

    quoted from the article:
"... conclusion ...: A Rift expansion is coming and it will bring a 10-level increase in the level cap, two new raids, four new souls, six new areas, a new city called Port Tempest, and possibly something fancy to use those Inert Prisms for. If I’m right, we should have more details to share with you soon."

An expansion would be cool I suppose, although this is very telling imho that they want to get more money out of Rift before it declines in player population anymore than it already has. I mean they have been adding huge content patches all along so why an expansion pack now? The patch that added Ember Isle and a myriad of other features seemed to me like an expansion pack itself. But I digress..

10 level increase in level cap - How on earth are they going to balance 66 point soul systems with adding ~5 more points? Unless you do not get soul points for those 10 levels? I mean I can think of so many insanely OP specs if I could spend another 5 points, but they could make it work probably will come with a huge reworking of many of the souls. I'm more curious as to how the funk will this work on top of Planar Attunement? ATM I have almost 50,000 points in PA -> that's 500 levels past 50! So how would that even work? Am I to level 10 more times and then go back to leveling PA? Do I keep my current PA throughout those 10 levels and does the XP count towards both, or just the new 10? So confused, moving on..

4 new souls - Sure let's add 4 new souls after already taking out the 4 pvp souls upon realizing what a huge fail they were. Again, I don't understand the logic here, however I'm excited to see what souls they come up with.

6 new areas and a new city - awesome stuff

two new raids - I saved this part for last because it seemed really obvious but I'll make a guess anyway. So far we've Killed Greenscale, Akylios, Leathys, and Maelforge leaving only Crucia and the big boss dragon Regulos. My guess is that they will save Regulos for later. So they will probably make a 10 man sliver which could be anything and a 20 man raid with Crucia as the final boss.

I played rift for 2 weeks when it first came out, i hated it, is it much better now?

Actually Olivegamer, I suspect this expansion will be announced sometime in the next few months, but wont be released until after we killed Crucia and Regulos.

That's an interesting take. Do you have some insider info that leads you to believe that?

What would there even be left to do in RIFT once all the dragons are defeated? They've pretty much based the entire lore around the dragons and their respective cults. There would need to be a new antagonist.

Depends, why did you hate it?

Well I assume there would be. But Regulos is the antagonist at the moment, and theres no point in releasing a new expansion until hes dead. It would be like Blizzard releasing Cataclysm, then releasing a NEW expansion before we kill Deathwing, even though Deathwing had been set up as the primary antagonist for the last expansion. It makes no sense.

I mean we've already killed 4 of the 6 dragons. I highly doubt they wont come up with some new lore and antagonists soon. Unless they feel like padding out the last two dragons for a year or so.

Technically Deathwing existed and was an antagonist (just not the main one or perhaps not fleshed out yet) since vanilla WoW (and even before WoW in the lore), but he was not featured until the 3rd xpac so that's somewhat a non sequitur.

So far the Rift lore time line revolves around Regulos and the Blood storm and the other dragons.

That said, I do see your point and I tend to agree with it. But that leads me to believe that this hint isn't about a new expansion pack, just new content / a big patch.

Also looking back, theres no way that 10 levels thing means the level cap will be 60, there are 10 new PVP ranks right now on the PTS. The more I read about it and look into it the more I think the 'mystery box' is about 1.9 and not an expansion pack.
