If you think a handful of petitions on the internet are going to cause the US to fall apart, you are an idiot. The California petition has a total of less than 7k signatures. The population of California is 37.6 million people. All it shows is that there are crazy people on the internet. If that's news to you, then you haven't been using the internet for long enough.
It's a gimmick petition, and I'm positive half the signers don't even live in Texas. I'd love to see the White House responded as follows:
"Of course Texas can secede from the union. But as residents of an independent sovereign country, their college and professional football teams may no longer compete with real American football teams in organized leagues."
The petition originator and signers would be in hiding before nightfall.
Texas seceded from Mexico but cannot legally secede from the USA.
Was it's secession from Mexico illegal? Probably, but Uncle Sam didn't care.
But, really, trying to put a legal stamp on something (yes, not yet) that is down to the will of the inhabitants...
The USA is such a young nation, in it's present form, we should never say never to it's enlargement/shrinkage and ultimate implosion over the course of say, another 250 years?
Yes! Prepare for your great, great, great, great offspring's future!
Oh wait.

Yes, but remove the Eagle's loss to the Cowboys and they're no longer tied for last. Washington hasn't played them yet. Philadelphia also beat NY the only time they've faced each other this year, so a playoff spot is technically possible.
Yeah the Eagles suck, worse than usual this year too. I'm just pointing out they're a Condorcet candidate.
Texas has oil. No way would the US leave that untouched if they decided to secede. I can see those tanks now =]
Website made avatars are too large for this forum. Time they upgraded back to the old days when it WASN'T a problem. Curse you've dragged this forum down!
I know a civil war would never happen...hopefully but how can you be sure they are 100% loyal? How many coups have taken place throughout history by military forces previously thought to be loyal or with help from people you thought were allies? Napoleon coming to power is probably the most famous. Then theres the October Revoultion where the Bolsheviks organized the armed forces and began taking over government buildings. Cant really count the Glorious Revolution as foreign soldiers aided. But just because you assume US soldiers are loyal to the US doesnt mean some wont defect. And with today's military all you need is a single defected captain of a nuclear sub to really mess shit up.

The chances of such charges being pursued, unless the quantity is large and the person is a producer, aren't all that great as it is largely up to the state and local authorities to apprehend the majority of individuals. That is, unless the FBI is going for a large scale bust.
We've already seen an unwillingness by the Federal government to both to prosecute several laws or defend such laws.
I don't know any of the details behind Ohio's voter rolls, but I would suspect that it's a combination of people coming and going to the state (higher in times of increased regional and national unemployment as you might expect), rules prohibiting removing people from the rolls for a certain amount of time, and the strong GOTV efforts of both Republicans and Democrats to make sure the people current living there are indeed registered.

So Texas wants to leave the Union, and what's the leftist reaction? "Send in the tanks! Blockade! They will never survive on their own!" Not surprising, considering some of the worst mass murderers in history were socialists (Stalin, Mao Zedong, Kim Il-sung, Castro, Pot Pot, Hitler), that kinda reaction goes along with what they might do in a similar situation...
What the fuck happened to democracy? Put it to a vote, and if a majority of the state of Texas (say 60%) agree that they should be an independent nation, let them exit peacefully. There's no need for bloodshed. I probably wouldn't vote for this, but if the people of that state want it, then they should have it. Democracy above all else. Besides, the only thing that would really change is the Federal Government's involvement in Texas, everything else could remain the same. In fact it might even prove better for them. Companies would leave Texas? LOL.
All they have to do is lower their corporate taxes to compete with Canada (15% vs US 39% LOL) and you'd have companies LEAVING California for Texas.
