Gonna give Guild Wars 2 another try, help.

So I started to play wow again but got bored of it now, and was thinking to give guild wars 2 another try.
What server should I make an character on? eu.

And is this game still "alive" ?

Edit: Also last time I played GW2, I played ranger. Dident really like that class. What class do you recommend, thats easy to play and does well solo/pve/pvp. In wow I played dk.
