Oh hell yea you're doing the right thing.... My only advice is... can you sustain this type of pace?? For the next 40 years of your life, can you continue what you're doing now? The reason I ask that, is because people tend to lose motivation when they push themselves too hard. Losing weight is a game of patience... People want to lose the weight asap and be thin... so they set high standards for themselves and after a couple months, they aren't getting the results they want. They think "huh if i'm working this hard and not getting what I want... maybe I'm not doing it right." Losing motivation is the worst thing that can happen... now if you see yourself doing this for the next 40+ years, then go ahead.

I'm into bodybuilding and I set some pretty high standards for myself. I picked routines out of muscle magazines and online articles... I pretty much copied pro bodybuilders routines... which sucked because I was working harder than ever, but I wasn't getting the results I wanted. So i reduced what I was doing per workout to something more reasonable and now I have the body that I want and i haven't lost motivation in quite some time.

I would start swimming. Not much will work your body better and have lower impact on you.

i started going to the gym twice a day monday-friday. mostly jogging on the treadmill(3 1/2-4 miles each visit) then once a day on saturday and/or sunday(depending on how i feel) and it looks like im losing 5 lbs a week. im still eating what i want, just alot less and when im not at the gym im not very active(on the computer or napping). i try to do pushups/situps every hour or so to keep the heart rate up alittle bit. can i assume that once i start losing less than those 5 lbs or more a week, its time to lift weights/do other exercises?

You could already start, muscle helps burn fat faster it might not show it on the scales because it weighs more than fat but you can also take measurements as well. I am the exact same as you I game all day and sleep but I work out every day for about 2 hours and eat right, I just do some weights low weights but high rep for definition.

I'll bet if you ten dollars if you put five pounds of fat and five pounds of muscle on a scale, they weigh the same.

That aside, it's not humanly possible to gain muscle at the same rate one is losing fat during a weight loss diet.

I was 150 pounds when I started exercising. I dipped down to 145 then shot up to 165 because of muscles. I was reading all the replies, I'm surprised it took so long for someone to mention that exercise will help you gain weight. I did a quick Google search and many websites confirmed that muscles weigh more than fat for the same mass. (Note, I never ate less food, I just changed my diet. Though I was 150 pounds when I started, so I was a very average build to begin with.)

If you're trying to just lose weight, a diet is the best idea. Excising is a great idea for personal health, you'll gain more weight as you gain muscle mass. So there might be a few weeks where the scales don't change, but your body is getting better.

This is only true if you're subjecting one to less gravity than the other. Disagree? Then you don't understand what the words "weight" and "mass" mean.
