Have $1,500. Should i just use Chaud's September Unicorn build ?

    mmo-champion.com/content/3414-Heroic-Garrosh-Defeated-SoO-Heroic-Progression-Blue-Tweets-Setup-of-the-Month[/url]

-scroll down from that link to see chaud's recommended build w all the links to amazon.

    Corsair Air 540 (Special Layout) - $140

    Power Supply Corsair Corsair 750HX - $110

    CPU Intel i7-4770K - $340

    Heatsink Noctua 6 NH-D14 - $77

    Motherboard ASUS Z87-PLUS - $155

    Memory 8GB 16GB G.Skill DDR3 1600 - $153

    Graphics Card Gigabyte 7970 - $280

Hard Drive Western Digital 1TB Caviar Black - $85

    Plextor 128 GB M5 Pro (Review) - $116 Corsair Neutron GTX 120GB (Review) - $125

    OR

    SAMSUNG 840 Pro 128GB (Review) - $133

    DVD Asus 24X SATA DVD+/-RW

    Total $1457 - $1495

So I want my PC to be able to smoke LoL and Mist of Pandaria. (and all current / future blizzard games) As well as dominate most games for the next 4 years. I'm by no means a pc guru, so I was pretty much going to follow Chaud's guide exactly, minus the video card. Subbing possibly a Geforce 770, or other ??

Any changes you guys would recommend I make ?

    -thanks

Edit: I'd like to get a new monitor too. You don't have to include the monitor in the $1,500 pc price. I'm a nub when it comes to monitors, I just want a badass one for games and movies.

I'm planning on buying my first own build, depending on how long this old pc will last ^^. I've done a lot of research and I'm not a pc guru either, but one thing that I can guarantee you is that you don't need an i7 unless you do a lot of video rendering. The core i5 is perfect for gaming, which should save you about 100$ that you really don't need to spend. And depending on what you exactly want to run faster on a ssd, you might want to purchase a 250gb version from samsung, which gives you all the room you need to quickly launch wow and your other games. The only thing that I know about monitors is that LG works like a charm for gaming, which I saw with a friend of mine. The other parts look about the same as mine.

Don't get the 840 Pro, go for the 250GB Samsung 840 EVO at around $172.

In addition, hold off on the GPU, with the upcoming release of the Radeon R9 series (the R9-280X is supposedly coming in at around $300).

16GB of RAM isn't really necessary in the initial build, you can go for 8GB. On top of that, you can drop the PSU to a quality 600-650W branded one with a 6+2pin power connector and a 6-pin connector.

The case and CPU are pretty cool, but you can knock a good $150 by picking a quality case and the i5, unless your major game is going to be BF4.

To be honest, every time those PC suggestions come up, I just read through them and go "WTF IS THIS". I wouldn't consider them.

Two things to consider : a new generation of consoles is coming to the market, and most developpers are LAZY (or not paid enough ?).

What does is mean for a gamer ? Next gen console will have 8 cores, and best-sellers console games will be developped with this in mind for optimization.
As developpers are lazy, they will do some dirty job to make their games work on PCs, so I expect most of the future big games to be optimized for 8 cores.
I know it is stupid, but even if today an i5 4 threaded is waaaaay too powerful, in a year or two, major games "Recommanded configuration" will be 8 core CPU.

My best advice would be to buy an i5 now, only 8Gb of RAM (2 reasons, 16 is useless, really, and PS4/XBOX will have 8 with maybe 4 unused, don't expect many games to use more) and keep the saved money for a future 8 core CPU replacement, when stupid 8 core requirements will become standard, there will be better options then.
About the GPU, wait for next week, new cards for AMD, new benchmarks, more choice.

I agree. They're probably for hipster kiddies who think you need a 1000watt psu and dozens of LEDs in the case to run a game.
    *i5-3570
    *AMD 7850
    *8gb ram
Add a cheap motherboard and psu of about 400watt and you've got yourself an amazing cheap rig.

Games rarely use 4 cores now, getting an i5 will be good for another year or two.

This is WITH a monitor, so keep that in mind.

    1. i7 is wasted for games if you are not going to do other things (rendering etc)
    2. The Noctua cooler is a great one, though there are other choices that are similar in price.
    3. The Asus MB is a decent piece of kit, while not being terribly expensive. There are others in this price range, like Gigabyte, MSI, ASRock.
    4. 8GB RAM cause you don't need more.
    5. 250GB SSD and 1TB storage. Plenty for a while at least!
    6. The GTX 770 is a place holder, I would wait for the new AMD cards that are supposed to be coming out (or at least more info) on 10/15.
    7. The case is a very nice one for the price, but does not have a window. I thought you might not want one with the mashup of colors going on.
    8. The PSU here is a good quality with plenty of W for your system. Also relatively cheap for a semi-modular piece.
    9. You don't necessarily need the optical drive, so that can be taken off if you want.
    10. W8 because you need an operating system (unless you actually don't, in that case take another $90 off the price)
    11. Great IPS panel included.

So, with the monitor and OS, you go over the $1500 by about $60. Not too bad considering you were not including W7/8 nor a monitor in your price in OP.

I would do something like this (maybe a nicer PSU). R9-280 is coming out soon, so probably best price point. And get whatever case strikes your fancy.

    nope.avi

We don't know the motherboard or the PSU model and wattage, and there's literally no point in buying an unlocked processor if the motherboard dioesn't support overclocking.

Answered in your other thread about the same thing. Still nope. The suggestions here are a better pick.

Never ever buy a prebuild computer. I always feel way better about my computer if i build it by myself.

Thanks everyone for your help. I used this thread as a guide and bought the pc today. I walked into a Tiger direct, and just wanted to look at video cards, and I ended up going HAM and building an entire pc, $500 over budget @ 2k. I don't know how to make the links look cool, so I apologize.

**also, if you guys see any parts I should change out, lmk ASAP. Tiger direct is building my pc and it should be ready in 2days,but I should be able to exchange parts. I'm a little worried about the ram speed, and the processor not being 4670k...Also not too sure on the monitor I picked out.

I'm a computer nub, and not sure if what I have will be solid enough, so please feel free to tell me to change any parts.

CPU: Intel Core i5-4670 3.4GHz Quad-Core Processor ($214.99) -they were out of stock of the 4670k, and I don't do any photoshop / rendering / etc. Only need the pc for gaming and internet browsing. If you guys think I should get the 4670k, I might try to exchange processors.

I didn't go for an ssd drive, because I'm only using my pc for gaming and internet browsing, they told me its not really that beneficial unless i'm doing more things.

    Dear god..

Get a 4670K cpu, you will regret not doing it in the future.
H100 is old and not recommended anymore, get a h100i.
190 $ for ram? 2x4 is MORE than enough for any gaming PC.
770 Classified, whoever suggested this to you needs to get fired. Change for R9-280X for 310 $.

the R9-280X is $200 cheaper, and better ?????

I don't even know how to over clock dude. I really need the 4670k ? The associate said it would just give me a 1 fps increase, and burn out the cpu faster while over clocked. He also said it wasn't needed being that my needs are only gaming and internet browsing.

I am seeing GTX doing a bit better at 1080P than the 280x but it is much cheaper. Then when you get to 4k resolution the amd beats it. Though I doubt you want a a 4k screen so that should not matter. So the 770 is better if you are willing to pa that much...But if you are willing to spend 500 bucks on a gpu you might want to wait the r9-290 pricing is as it should beat the gtx 770.
