How should we act on Russia's invasion of Ukraine?

How do you feel on this issue?

Note: For the purpose of this poll, westerners are anyone from anglo-North America, NATO or European Union Europe, anglo-Australasia, US-aligned Far East or Israel. Easterners are from non NATO/European Union Europe, or non US-aligned Asia. Third world is Africa or South America.
Note2: Perhaps some people want to go in and help Russia conquer Ukraine. I don't know. I find this unlikely, but if you think this way; my apologies for not adding it.

I voted do nothing. Ukranian chicks are f*cking gorgeous, so if they all have to come to Canada as refugees and need well-to-do husbands to start a new life hey, who am I to argue?

Parallels can be drawn to the Russia-Georgia war of 2008, except this time it has way bigger potential for further escalation, and the stakes are much higher. An all-out war between major powers (Russia vs US/NATO/EU) probably won't happen, but it's certainly a small possibility of it. A war between Ukraine and Russia, or a Ukrainian civil war between anti-Russians and pro-Russians (supported in some way by Russia) is much more plausible.

My hope is that everything works out without a war, war is the worst way to solve differences.

    (MEANWHILE: IN GHELD'S THOUGHT PROCESS)

Ukrainian woman: "I just lost my home, family and friends to Russian troops ... I now have to live in a foreign land and I may never see my home again and life may never be the same... But boy could I screw a Canadian guy who spends his time posting on gaming forums."

But history is written by the winners, thus only good things come out of war.

It is, however, the most effective.

Military intervention on the side of Ukraine.
I'm not saying the EU should attack. Just intervene.

Sure; I'd prefer to just have sanctions. But sanctions alone won't do anything. What are we going to do; glare at them angrily? The EU is kind of known as the 'powerless conglomeration of hipsters' as it stands; maybe a show of force would actually turn some heads, and change some things. For the better of everyone involved.

Do nothing. The whole thing doesn't necessarily pose any serious threat to us - neither militarily nor economically.
No reason to get our hands dirty.

Wasn't Crimea a part of Russia up until the Soviet Union? Do not the people of the region speak Russian, are from Russian decent, and are pro Russian? Why would anyone intervene to force the will of a Government, which isn't exactly legitimate being the result of a coup, on a region that neither wants it, or historically had it.

2 State Solution, either Russia annexes it, or helps it to form its own State. The western part goes on without it.

Oppressive dictatorships are generally the most effective way of government too, that doesn't mean that it's a feasible solution.

Actually, dictatorships seem to have a trend of failing and ending in the dictator's execution in favor of democracy. Democracy has less of a reputation of such a tragic end to its regime.

If the Russian loyalist parts of the Ukraine secede then it's none of our business. That's probably all Putin really cares about.

True, which is why Crimea has been an autonomous republic since Ukraine gained independence.

That's interesting, French troops (among others) intervened in the Northern Mali conflict, and did exactly what you're describing, yet I don't see anyone rushing to Azawad's defense.

I don't feel the U.S. has any reason to involve itself in European affairs. We've got our own shit to deal with.

There is a world of space between "Military Action" (which of course we should not to) and "Sanctions".

We should do sanctions, but we should also move large amounts of military equipment to the area, put drones over Eastern Ukraine, and launch Cyberattacks against Russian assets in Crimea. We should do aggressive, provocative things, well above sanctions, but well below warfare.

an intervention from both the EU and the US is really required here. Honestly if not action is taken that signals the rather weak nature of both the US and EU. An unchecked Putin will definitely screw up a few things. This should be more about posturing instead of all out conflict which the posturing from the EU and US would actually prevent. Correct me if I am wrong but wasn't it the Ukraine wanting to buy the missile shield from the US before and Russia threw a temper tantrum?

My brother must have married the only one who doesn't fit the bill.
