I'm looking for a ranged alt. I dont want one whose filler spell is a cast time. I hate that, but i dont mind channeled. Spriest and Affl are the only 2 i see. I have no priest, but a level 90 lock. How is affl for mythic raiding?

If what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. Then I should be a god by now.
It's fine, and it'll be even better in next tier after having had a couple of buffs.
Affliction is outperformed by Demonology on every fight currently, not that farm really matters anymore but if you're still progressing through Mythic Foundry it's best to play Demonology.
Next tier Affliction is one of, if not the, highest DPS spec in the game as it currently stands on PTR.
Affliction is pretty competitive, also helps if RNG is in your favor, but as Zvvl stated, for progression it would be better to play Demonology
either way, if you're still progressing then you will be hard pressed to find a reason to play anything other than demo, and that even goes if you are farming shit coz brf heavily favors the toolkit that demo has, so many fights in brf favors burst aoe and afflic has none of that, the only fight in brf that could potentially benefit afflic is maybe oregorger.
I believe Demonology is behind Destruction and Affliction on Gruul as well.
Short fight, front loaded spec, not surprising at all.

Everything melts to evryones burst AoE so fast that its not a relevant part of the encounters anymore. Just about who can grab pie fastest to look good. Really, being comfortable enough with the spec that you can manage the important stuff is way more important by now.
Gear doesn't equate to DPS. There are plenty of players that do shit damage despite what gear they get because they don't understand parts of their class. There is literally no reason to gimp yourself on progression by playing Affliction or Destruction unless you actually cannot function as the other specs.
I think this applies to guilds/groups that are super geared and smash the boss real hard. Not only do both specs excel on shorter fights, they also get really high Doomguard uptime.I believe Demonology is behind Destruction and Affliction on Gruul as well.
You'll do more damage spamming shadow bolt in 690 gear than you will in 660 gear. You're describing a problem that exists outside of gear that changing spec won't fix. Bad play.
Yes, but there are 19 other players in the raid. Assuming the Warlock is competent (which I am for the purpose of this discussion) then he should do as much as he can to down the boss.
All 3 of our specs are competitive at the moment. The only time it matters that you play the absolute best spec is if you are in a top 100 guild or competing for server firsts. If they guy enjoys affliction he can easily play it on most of the encounters. The only one you would hinder your group on are maybe flamebender, kromog, and operator and even then it depends on what your group needs and what your raid comp is. Don't get me wrong I play demo for every fight except Kromog, but that is because I enjoy demo. The gap isn't even as big as you guys make it out to be, all the specs are very close and viable at the moment.
The issue comes where you have a spec that is going to be in the gutter compared to the others like we will have next tier. Demo will be so far behind going into the next tier that playing it will hamper progress for a longer time. People aren't really forced into demo right now, it performs only slightly better on most fights, you can easily perform with other people switching between the other 2 specs and pull your weight (except maybe mages but that is a different story). If you aren't racing for server first or world first it doesn't matter right now. That is just people following the masses or having raid leads in low level guilds who are retarded. Next tier bashing somebody for playing demo would be more appropriate because it will actually be one of, if not the worst spec in the game. But even then if they are pretty behind the curve for progression then it shouldn't matter. Let people play wtf they want to atm, the specs are the closest balanced they have even been outside of burst AoE pad bullshit.
No, I get the point completely. This guy is going to be rolling a Warlock alt, he will learn the class from the ground up, who knows what he is most comfortable with. If he is going to playing it in 6.1, then Demo will be the strongest spec for him to play. He isn't decided on Warlock at all as Shadow Priest is another option he is considering. Shadow Priest is stronger than Affliction is in 6.1, imo. And using basic logic you can assume he is curious about the relative strengths of the two classes and specs he chose.
If hes leveling from the ground up its not worth messing with demo to be honest. Hes not going to be doing any mythic in a fresh lock unless he gets carried in 6.1. Would be worth it to learn affliction and get comfortable with it since its going to be so strong in 6.2. least til Arch trinket and 4pc for demo...and then still....
