People getting offended on the behalf of others

Anybody else find it slightly annoying when people take it upon themselves to be offended on the behalf of others?

Just to clarify I aren't talking about people that say "That's offensive to..." because that's more an explanation of a commonly accepted offensive word. No i'm talking about people that say stuff like "I find that highly offensive" when it isn't targeted at them e.g. a white guy getting offended at nigger or a straight woman getting offended at fudgepacker (there's various examples)

I for example jokingly use the word 'cripple' yet it's amazing how many non-disabled people cry offence at this

No but what I hate is when you are having light banter with friends in a game and then someone in the group starts acting like trigglypuff.

    How exactly am I inconsiderate?

thoughtlessly causing hurt or inconvenience to others.
"it's inconsiderate of her to go away without telling us"
synonyms: thoughtless, unthinking, insensitive, selfish, self-centred, self-seeking, unsympathetic, uncaring, unthoughtful, unconcerned, heedless, unmindful, unkind, uncharitable, ungracious, impolite, discourteous, rude, disrespectful; More
Again I require an example on how I'm inconsiderate

Well for one, you don't need to belong to certain group to find discriminatory slurs distasteful or reviling.

And two, you really have no clue on the nature of someone's personal life. Perhaps said straight woman doesn't like your homophobic slur because her son or brother is gay.

You don't need to be a member of a group to be offended at an insult or slur aimed at that group.

This world needs an enema. A strong acid filled, nuclear bomb of an enema. Our species has become weaker and softer than it has ever been. Not that we were ever really that strong to begin with. How sad is it that in tens of thousands of years of existence, we still haven't even come close to our true potential yet? After tens of thousands of years of existence, we still don't know who we are or what we're capable of.

I don't get offended by specific things, but I do get offended when people are being assholes. I don't particularly care who you are targeting with your assholery, it's just not needed.

You're not allowing people to be offended on behalf of you when you're not bothered at all.

What will they do with their time now? Stop complaining on the internet? You're denying them of their one true passion in life. You monster!

That's still getting offended on behalf of somebody else e.g. her brother

Sounds like every person on the planet. No matter what you do or say there's someone who takes offence.

Behaving like an arsehole and getting scorn for it is justified because they're being an arsehole

Yes... people tend to get offended if you insult something close to them.

    Are you really that dense?

I posted examples, if you're offended by examples there's something wrong. Intent is important

Is it offence or just annoyance

It's actually 200,000 years give or take a few days.

I'm gay, if my friend gets called a faggot I won't be offended because it wasn't targeted at me, I would however be annoyed

Meh, I think at that point you need to define what you consider assholish behaviour. If somebody says something extremely homophobic, for example, I'd tell them to stop being an asshole. I'm not gay. Nobody in my family is gay (that I know of). I have gay friends, but I don't need to fight their battles for them. I just don't like general assholery.

I think it's less about being offended for other people, and more just about not wanting to have to deal with assholes all the time.

    This is hilariously idealistic.
By games you mean your pity party? Words shouldn't offend only the intent behind said words

Why? There's a difference between being a homosexual and being a faggot. However, your derogatory slinging self should know a cripple is a cripple whom is a cripple.

I think it's more how people define offense. I agree with your scenario but wouldn't consider it getting offended on behalf of others
