Another piece deal in the middle east. For all the crap Trump spews I am really glad that someone is making progress on real peace in a region that we need to get our troops home from. Of course when all of congress (both sides with the exception of like 11 people total) vote to block him from pulling more troops out, you begin to wonder if there really is any difference in the 2 sides when it comes down to it.

Just finished watching a documentary about a father reconnecting with his daughter after being released from prison after 15 years with the backdrop being them both getting stuck in a shithole country during the pandemic while he is trying to atone for his past.

Yeah. Smallpox, spanish flu, they all had "low" mortality rates. But when they infect so many people, even such a low mortality rate kills in the millions. Spanish flu was roughly 2.5%, but it infected as many as one third the total population and killed 50-100 million.

A number like 2% or 3% can seem deceptively small.

For contrast, the regular seasonal flu is ~0.1%.

Diseases with a high contagion rate and low death rate are the ones that spread the most. People being asymptomatic but contagious are the best spreaders of a disease. The virus uses both techniques for maintaining its existence.
