A day in which one sports item is mentioned in politics, namely the aluminium baseball bat, is a rare.
A day in which two sports items is red letter.
Michael from Michigan because that's not confusing at all was arrested for
beating cops with a hockey stick.
Oh, funny story: I posted Legal Eagle literally yesterday about the murderous insurrection. He, being not just an expert but also smarter than me, suggested that weaker/misdemeanor crimes would be filed first then larger/felonies later. This is now happening.
But I think he also mentioned the all-important Jan 20th date.
Trump can't pardon anymore. So Trump would have had three options, all bad:
1) Give blanket pardons to the murderous insurrectionists on his way out the door, cementing his role in the matter, further weakening his 2024 power, and maybe even inviting obstruction charges.
2) Do nothing, leave his rabid fanbase who attacked the House/Senate on his own orders to go to prison, hanging them out to dry because they no longer serve any purpose to Trump. This, of course, is what happened because Trump is a piece of #2.
3) Pardon the misdemeanors, see 1), but leave open the upcoming felonies, see 2), the worst of both worlds.
As someone who lives balls-deep in Hockey Country, I can personally attest to how much damage you can do by hitting someone with a hockey stick.
Not all that much, honestly, compared to other weapons of that size. They're designed for finesse strikes, not bludgeoning for raw power. I've handled my share of sticks and OH GOD THAT LOOKS WRONG I've inspected several university sports league pieces of sports equipment and I'm pretty sure they'd shatter if you really wound up and swung for the fences. Maybe one of the old-school sticks would survive, but not the ones I've seen in the college shop. Bare minimum, you'd snap the blade off at the joint, and then have a slightly shorter broom handle.
