We're getting back to some more meaningful comparison days now that we're more than a week past New Years, so it's time to report that today's new case total was 673k, which is an increase of 85k over the 568k reported last Tuesday.

The 7-day average went up to 757k, which is very nearly 3x the peak 7-day average of 256k from last winter.

And even those numbers don't mean much. The positivity rate has increased from 7% in mid-December to 31% in the US, so the true numbers are likely way higher.
However, cases and positivity rates are not as easy to interpret in the US as in other countries that have more consistent testing across the entire country.

And even if there were problems last winter the positivity rate never hit 15%.

Trump, for not even God knows what reason, decided to do an interview with NPR.

It didn't end well. In fact, it ended because Trump couldn't answer questions and hung up in cowardice. (Hey, if you're a Trump supporter and can show a different reason, go for it)

As you've probably guessed, NPR was asking about election fraud. Trump continued to tell lies like "there were more votes than there were voters" which is, of course, objectively false.

I particularly like this part:

NPR'S STEVE INSKEEP: Let me read you some short quotes. The first is by one of the judges, one of the 10 judges you appointed, who ruled on this. And there were many judges, but 10 who you appointed. Brett Ludwig, U.S. District Court in Wisconsin, who was nominated by you in 2020. Another quote, Kory Langhofer, your own campaign attorney in Arizona, Nov. 12, 2020, quote, "We are not alleging fraud in this lawsuit. We are not alleging anyone stealing the election." And also Rudy Giuliani, your lawyer, Nov. 18, 2020, in Pennsylvania, quote, "This is not a fraud case." Your own lawyers had no evidence of fraud. They said in court they had no evidence of fraud. And the judges ruled against you every time on the merits.

TRUMP: It was too early to ask for fraud and to talk about fraud. Rudy said that, because of the fact it was very early with the — because that was obviously at a very, very — that was a long time ago. First of all, I don't care what people thought or felt about the election. Incidentally, neither does the law. There is no variant of murder where the victim says "I felt like he killed me". There is no version of election fraud where people felt like the election was stolen. Fuck their feelings.

Second of all, what, exactly, was "bore out"? Was anything, anywhere, actually proven? Maybe not by Jan 6th but it's been a year and change since. Let's get some alternate viewpoints here who can objectively point to something "bore out" that points to a stolen election, other than feelings.

So I think we, as a community, need to band together to discuss what was "bore out" with regard to election fraud. I think that, whenever any Trump supporter or "I'm not a Trump supporter, but isn't he the best and doesn't his dick taste like cotton candy?" poster posts literally anything, they should instead be asked about what Trump said in this interview. Because nothing a Trump supporter has to say, right now, is more important than "I agree/disagree that we have found proof of election fraud".

It's been a year. He's still saying the election was stolen. And he's saying there's proof. Trump supporters, cite this evidence. Any of you. All of y'all. Nothing you have to say has any merit if you cannot address this direct, specific issue. This cannot be handwaved.

Any Trump supporter, any thread, any topic. They answer this first. If there is objective proof, give them every chance to present it. If they disagree, give them every chance to disagree. These are both valid options. But they must now answer this, before anything else they have to say can be entertained. Because nothing is more important than "I have proof the election was stolen".

Omicron has overwhelmed the capacity to test in other countries as well. In Canada, we were below 5% positivity pre-Omicron. Now, we are also well over 30%. PCR tests are being rationed and recommended only to be used on symptomatic cases.

You can't. Between Covid, their average age, their "cures", and potentially fatal hobbies*, you have to wait em out.
