If I tweet/write/call to elected politicians on the local political level here with a message that I need them to shape up, they'll block me on Twitter and ignore my messages. Why the hell would they care unless you're someone with a lot of political clout.

Never happened to me. Straight up told my rep that he made a terrible decision both via letter and twitter. Not blocked on Twitter, received a reply letter.

It helps that he’s vulnerable tho.

The State Department on Thursday issued a warning against separating families in a new human trafficking report amid the controversy surrounding migrant families at the U.S. southern border.

"Children in institutional care, including government-run facilities, can be easy targets for traffickers. Even at their best, residential institutions are unable to meet a child’s need for emotional support that is typically received from family members or consistent caretakers with whom the child can develop an attachment," the department said in the report.

"Children are especially vulnerable when traffickers recognize and take advantage of this need for emotional bonding stemming from the absence of stable parental figures," the report continued.

"In addition, the rigid schedules and social isolation of residential institutions offer traffickers a tactical advantage, as they can coerce children to leave and find ways to exploit them."

That was nothing more than a joke. Republicans assailed a fellow Republican, appointed by Trump himself, based off of Hannity's unhinged conspiracy theories and rants.

Republicans have no desire to even pretend to engage honestly or govern anymore. It's all about defending Trump and maintaining power, even if they burn down core American institutions in the process.

Burning down core American institutions is a goal not a side effect.

They can't impose their own ideals with that pesky groundwork already in place.

Yep, email and physical letters (as those are more uncommon nowadays and actually get more visibility in the office than an email). And I try to make it to town halls when both my state and federal Reps are in town. My state Rep is great and he's always happy to chat, though it's a bit harder to get to chat with my federal Rep.

Hmm, in my head your letter ends up in a huge pile which a helper student from university sorts into the "mad/notmad" piles and then tells your rep he's doing "swell/really good!"

Eh, I think "No one knows what the hell he's talking about" is a bit disingenuous. Judging from that article, it's less "Trump is talking entirely out of his ass" and more just "they're going to, but haven't yet."

And we've calmed down quite a bit! We used to show our frustration by beheading our leaders.
